While Vorazun isn’t weak at all, using her Void Rays does always feel like you’re getting a worse deal than if you’re using her DTs except against capital ships, but now her Voids are more vulnerable to Battlecruisers because of the reduction in the cast time of Yamato Cannon to 1.5 seconds instead of 3 seconds. As such, you’re usually gonna lose a Void Ray every time an enemy BC uses Yamato unless you throw down a Dark Pylon, which isn’t always available due to cooldowns or energy.
Isn’t that just a painintheass?
EDIT: If I were to give the Void Rays some kind of buff, I’d look into giving them the Flux Vanes upgrade. Helps them move around more quickly (even if you could use Dark Pylons to warp them, you aren’t doing that when attacking into an enemy base) and lets them close in to start attacking a bit faster.
Additionally, I’d look into improving the Prismatic Alignment buff duration. The biggest issue with Prismatic Alignment is that it doesn’t last long after the VRs stop attacking and are trying to seek out a new target, causing that bonus damage and range to fall off easily. Having it last longer would be a nice improvement without directly affecting their power.
A third idea I had to buff them would be that Prismatic Alignment could also give them bonus armor and/or shield armor as it charges up. This would make Vorazun’s Void Rays better at trading with enemies like Vikings and Carriers, and would give them a “tanky air” niche that the Corsairs and Oracles can’t quite fill. It wouldn’t help against Yamato Cannon, sure, but against just about everything else it’d be useful.

Battlecruisers are either relatively rare (bases) or extremely common/dense (attack waves). So if you’re attacking into, say rifts to korhal, you’re only going to meet maybe 3-5 preplaced battlecruisers throughout the entire mission, most of which are at the end. They’re rare enough that losing a void ray each time isn’t game-ending. Alternatively, if they come in attack waves, you know with 100% certainty where the battlecruisers are and thus can just black hole it in order to not lose anything.

Alternatively alternatively, if youre seeing BCs in attack waves, you already know the entire mission will be hostile to your void rays, since the only waves they come in are all good against rays, and you know to simply not make them. Not every comp needs to be able to kill everything equally well.

^ This, exactly. Properly made, the game should work to make you experiment.
That said, making engagements under a dark pylon will also help reduce losses considerably.
Can we talk about how we just established void rays as being bad against one of the few units they’re supposed to be good against (relatively speaking. DT/sair should be weak to capital ships, but it’s actually better than the anti-capital ship unit)
Should voids be good against everything? Of course not. But if you’re not making voids vs battlecruisers, what ARE you making? Corsairs, the things that are good against everything?

Corsairs are also pretty bad against battlecruisers outside of a black hole unless you seriously overinvest in them.
Anyway, you could/should make Dark Archons against battlecruisers. Properly controlled they mess up that composition something fierce.
Stalkers and Dark Archons work great against Battlecruisers; Void Rays work fine, though making the engagement with a Black Hole or Dark Pylon will improve matters a lot.
That aside, the recent change to Yamato only dropped the charge time by 1.5 seconds. Not many more Void Rays are going to be lost from that, especially since the BCs could already almost get their shots off before the Void Rays entered range to even attack.
And also literally every other anti-air Vorazun has. They have 3 base armour, so they are a huge pain for corsairs, they lose upgrades when mind controlled so Dark Archons are very meh (0/0 BCs do 0.5 damage per shot to 3/3 BCs) and Stalkers just aren’t great against dedicated air waves.

Mind Controlling the battlecruisers is generally a trap unless theyre all that’s left. Forcing the attack wave to destroy itself is both more energy efficient and, as you noted, effective. Stalkers and your archons can clean up whats left.
Ah, yes confusion is a very good spell that I often forget about when talking about Vorazun. Which is surprising given how often I use it.
You know you don’t have to mass void rays right? But having 2 or 3 in your army helps makes short work off any heavy air
That’s a terrible idea, seeing as those void rays will just get yamatoed and do 0 damage over the course of their whole life. The idea is to counter Yamato, not be countered.

Yeah, against Toss air that makes sense, and certain Zerg air, but Battlecruisers in particular would hit them with Yamato before they managed to enter attack range unfortunately.
I am, however, supportive of any coop build that goes against the common “build this one unit” meta.
After trying all Vora’s possible army comps I prefer massing stalkers + 1 cloaked oracle.
They are cheap, they are mobile, they can be deployed on the bf via a dark pylon, you can recall them again, you can blink + getting cloaked. I don’t care losing a few unlike expensive units like voidrays.
After Vora’s revamp I never touched VR or her other comps, stalkers are still my fave and btw a good response to BC.

I tend to use Stalker/Dark Archon/Dark Templar, adjusting the amounts depending on if it’s air or ground Amon, though I mineral dump Centurions as need be.
Confusion is just so good, I can’t pass it up.
The reworks benefited the various Stalkers so much, though people don’t use them too much still.
Yeah, Vora seems to be a bit of a gate commander now. Sure, her Corsairs and Oracles are good and all, but mass gate seems to the the most consistent power for non-solo brutal+ runs.

Vorazun is my least used toss commander. I play her very infrequently. As a complete noob to her, when should I make voids if I just really want to make voids?
(edit: man I read that bad)
I find they work well against Toss air and robo comps, along with Zerg comps without Scourge, though swarmy Zerg will run past. Terran I find rips into them too well though, either with BCs or Goliath.

I’ve never been fan of DA so far. I mean I like stealing units, I like Karax’s energisers and Vega, but for some reason never tried them in this game, only on SC1 where I found them fun.
The thing is massing stalkers lets me literally MASS them cuz I only need to research forge’s upgrades and just the oracle’s cammo.
They are so cheap and cost efficient that I don’t need anything else. That plus hitting air + ground, being good vs everything + Vora’s CC skills is all I need and everything else is very expensive to me.
And yeah, it seems I’m the only one doing this. Every time I have a Vora ally they just spam void rays and not even canons for mineral dump… Sometimes I see some DT but it’s quite uncommon in my random allies.
It’s all about Confusion for me, Mind Control I only use for situations like siege tanks on Miner Evac. A good Confusion into some Banes is soo satisfying.
To be fair, I know others mentioned DAs but I’ve never seen anyone use anything but Voids or DT/Corsair.
