Void Rays dominating all 3 matchups

PvP is nothing but Void Ray cheese, PvZ is Void Ray every single game and PvT is Void Ray cheese too.

Isn’t this more than enough proof to do something about this unit? I can understand that Void Rays were in need of a buff but a quadruple buff in a single patch was beyond stupid.

Fix the f***ing game, Blizzard devs. This current Protoss meta is really trash and it is making the player base dwindle like never before out of BOREDOM.

To the devs its considered fixed though. Since the devs are protoss mains.

There is no more Blizzard Entertainment involved, and there are no Devs.

So it seems you figured out the matchups, you know that there will be voidray cheese so you should be able to counter/handle it??

So instead of learning how to deal with it, you come on here and cry about it. It’s annoying and fairly easy to pull off, sure, but there are ways to defend it for all 3 races.

DH NA is full of protosses, when they cant play the game or just bored of trying hard with other races, they start playing protoss. The result: PvP mirrors all the time and such player base.

When I see such game of some proxy cheese in SC2, while I also watch warcraft 3 sometimes from known streamers, I can say I enjoy warcraft 3 much more than this poor attempts of ‘interesting games’ made by SC2. Especially when there’s protoss involved or PvP

The hate of this retard toward protoss has cartoonish proportions. This amount of undiluted hatred can only be explained with childhood traumas that this lunatic projects toward the image of Protoss race.
Please help the moron ASAP.

Typical game vs Toss :

The 60 APM dude, canon rush me. I defend, then he goes void ray, i scout it, made queen.
But the guys just abuse the empty space and snipe my main as the ground distance is too long, and anyway voids are faster.

So ever i defend with all my queens and he just goes to another base and i can’t defend, or i split, and he can engage half my army, and kill stuff for free. And i can’t kill any voids as he just need to pull them when they are low HP, as i can’t catch them…

So yeah, voids are broken, not “strong”, just uncounterable as Zerg. The only hope we have is the race so imba, the dude you met are so bad that they sometimes manage to lose as they don’t know how to micro. But vs someone competent, you can’t do anything.

Currently in Europe Winters Masters, protoss have been going early voidray or mass midgame void ray almost every single game.

It makes me chuckle to remember the uproar over “OP” battlecruisers, mostly among bronze and silver players. Not a single BC has been made yet in the tournament that I remember. Not one. Void rays are insanely more powerful than BC.

that’s the problem with voids, they are too universal.
good mid range / air / tanky / atg and ata / fast.
especially against zerg. Void → harass/ fight for push and def ( not only mid but also late game).
example: Phoenix dependent on mana, as harass unit still a risk due to range.
with void buffs you have completely replaced Phoenix in PvZ.

remember hatch drop lord (evo)? but toss did not want to learn… and zerg get another nerf and lost another (only?) early harass tool.

Watching that exact tournament and realizing every single Protoss game had Void Rays involved was the main motivation for me to create this thread. This is far more problematic than BCs ever were.

Start playing 12 pool, you can stop cannons or go directly to P main.

I think Void Rays are popular just because they are the most accessible Stargate unit that can fight ground and air. If the Tempests would not require a Fleet Beacon and Voids would, then the meta would probably be mass Tempest early on.

Because Void Rays by themselves can be countered painfully easy if you know they are coming. Just mass a light anti-air unit against them, meaning Marine/Hydra. Those trade cost efficiently with Voids.
Protoss is the exception because their light AA unit, the Phoenix, is just trading on equal grounds vs them since they only have bonus vs Light. In this match-up you should just focus on getting Storm and more stuff than your opponent. A combination of literally anything that shoots up, with Tempests from behind.

Ofc the situation becomes more complicated if you add Shield Battery campings into the mix. In that case I am not sure that the Void Ray itself is the problem compared to the ease of massing up SBs.

Yeah void rays are simply way too mobile for how powerful they are. You could make mutas to keep up with them but voids actually completely wreck mutas. Those are the only units capable of keeping up with void ray movements. Fungal could work too, but it doesn’t root anymore. If you go fungal and queen, then the voids can eat the fungal and just walk away and the queens can’t DPS them down fast enough. He might lose a void ray.

The best way to deal with them in my opinion is burrow and hydra queen. You burrow your army to the side of your main when you catch vision he is headed that direction then you unburrow once he is overtop. Another option is to simply play hyper-aggressive zerg styles like 2 base hydra ling rushes which would be pure suicide to ever make void rays. APEtoss players are usually so completely inept at the video game that they will have no clue how to react to a non-meta build like 2 base hydra. So they will mass void rays anyway and die.

I have, I kid you not, an 80% win-rate vs APEtoss on this patch. Protoss players have absolutely zero clue how the game works, even at a GM level, to the point that scouting and adapting their builds, making basic decisions like that, is way beyond their skill level. When you go 2 base hydra make absolute certain to deny all scouting info that way he doesn’t know to go robo for disruptors or colossi but rather tries to blind counter 2 base muta. If he does go for robo on 2 base for some strange reason, then you go mutas and it’s a free win. There is also a chance he will think it’s a nydus play then it’s even odds whether he goes robo or stargate. Stargate with voids is a better solution because it counters swarm hosts to an extreme but some ding dongs still go robo in that scenario.

Also something you can do to help out a bit with keeping scouting info hidden is to hide an overlord on the map and build your spire or hydra den out there. Just don’t put it somewhere where he will scout it. One of the things a good protoss will do when he sees no third is he will check for hidden bases which might cause him to see the overlord creep. So it’s important to stay active with your lings and make sure no probe leaves his natural, clean up his first scouting probe, then he either has to make sentries (disastrous) to scout with hallucination, or go for an observer (disastrous since it takes up robo production time) or run his void rays all over the map (super costly and risky since it might be a spire). He may also try to squeeze some adepts out especially after a phoenix or void clears out your overlord looking over his natural. That’s when you have a chance to nab free adepts with some lings.

By the way, with 2 base hydra you do take a late third but you don’t saturate it except to transfer your main’s workers, or if he takes big damage but you don’t think you can end the game (and he has no counter attack potential) then pumping drones is the right call. It’s basically a prolonged allin build that can sometimes take awhile to play out if the protoss turtles up and takes a third slowly. If he gives you a chance to trade then you do but otherwise your goal is just to deny his third and deny counter attacks while never giving him a good fight. You continually build up your army off of 52 workers.

We had this argument a while ago. Protoss doesn’t have enough gateway units early on to split up to defend or contest an overlord drop.

Edit: found the post

This conversation. If anything, the fact that you are crying about this again is continuous proof that people (i.e. like you) just come here to cry about things.

normal when I am greedy. 3 different tec build… that I do not have enough units.
Btw what makes zerg against cannon rush? or bunker rush?.. yes worker pull…
funny … the post doesn’t even show a counter argument…
but what do I expect from DropoutWing…

2 in 1 post Oh boi… I foresaw his coming back. Can I foresee his leaving for a long time again too?

How long did it take this monkey to beat AI- very easy to be able to post? Win rate vs AI easy : Wins 10 Losses 100?? As if he ever makes that many games haha!

The Protoss race is designed to be hated in SC2 it is a known fact, it killed the desire to play (and watch) considering what a PvP clown fiesta - does any1 even watch DH NA? I happen to tune in to see what they stream and just see this EVERY evening. Neeb and the NA Protosses LUL, when you cant learn to play properly that game, play Potatoss. My only respect is for few like Showtime, the rest are race switchers and let’s play toss to qualfy for pro games! NEEEEEEB the terran-protoss

I told you, I just watch war3… a game too old to play ( I used to play it before i switched to SC2 in 2010-11) and gosh it is 1000 times better to watch than any clowning with whoever proxies vs or as PROTOSS!

As opposed to skilled APEzergs who lose to voids even when they know they are coming.

Oh and just to say most of the void ray cheesers are 70 APM A movers who would lose them stacked as they are hit by widow mines - Gandhi the poster style
