Unranked MMR/Queue bug on my SC2 Account since years

Dear Blizzard,

i have a technical problem since years now. So i thought i give the support another try now, because in the forums my problem is getting ignored and since that the problem never got solved for me so far.

I found out long time ago that it became very hard for me to find games in unranked and this problem i have for over 7 years now. I thought unranked is bugged for me and doesn’t work but still i sat there and waited it out, turned out the queue was just super ridiculously long. I wait for like 5-10mins and get bronze opponents (i’m Diamond 2), and i thought that was odd, then i tested again and again, it’s always the same, 5-10mins wait time, i get 1500-2500 mmr people for no reason and the opponent i get are not getting better, it’s still bronze, low silver, I don’t understand how. Sometimes i get a dimaondplayer or masterpalyer out of nowhere, but it is really rare, but still the queue time is unnormal long. I have friend playing the game too having no problem with unranked, while some having the same issue like me. It seems rare to some people, but it would be great if you guys could take a look into the unranked or maybe your start making a complete mmr reset for me to solves the unranked problem. I’m not a expert and i know you guys have alot of other things to do, but i would really thankfully for your help. I play on EU Server right now btw.

P.S. I tryed out a new Account and i have no problem playing unranked, my problem is i have all my stuff i bought over all the years on my Mainaccount, so it would be nice if you can solve the problem over there. Thanks

Technical Specialist R. here and I understand that unranked matches in Starcraft 2 are not working with your specific account. Seems you must queue for a long time and even that may result in a player of much lower rank being matched against you. I know that is frustrating to deal with for so long. Let’s go over what we can do to help.

First regarding the overall process of matchmaking, both for ranked or unranked games, Game Masters have no way to check if a problem is occuring. We have no way to check a player’s MMR, information if that is taken into account for unranked matches, or see how many other players may be queuing for matches along with what their MMR may be. That is all information our tools don’t show. We also have no way to reset a player’s MMR.

We can provide technical troubleshooting in case something is going on involving causes like the connection or interfering programs. You already mention though that a new account with no history does not have this problem however.

I suspect if there is no issue with another account that troubleshooting a technical issue would also be met with success. From personal experience with other games matchmaking, it’s possible the MMR is being taken into account even for unranked matches. If noone else of similar skill is also in queue, the queue will keep expanding it’s limits for who you’ll be matched with. This can mean a long wait and ultimately a match against someone who has a much lesser ranking. As a new account would not have a high MMR, it would be matched quickly against others with low ratings which can be much more common compared to higher ranks like Diamond 2.

Sadly there isn’t much that can be done to get around the system here. If matchmaking is just not working, a bug or suggestion can be shared so the QA and development teams, who have tools to better check into this, can then investigate if the unranked matchmaking system is either broken or lacking enough players to efficiently match players in a timely manner.

Due to the specifics that can be causing htis, I would recommend posting in both the general and bug forums, both of which would be monitored by the classic game developers.

So i know it’s a pointless thing and i know nobody will solve the problem or help for now, but i just tryed it in this case again. Maybe some day someone will fix it with a Hotfix Ptach or so. The Problem just effects older Accounts and not new F2P Accounts.

Greetings! it looks like I’m not the only one having this problem. I agree with the GM on how the system works.

I find found a work around for me maybe it can help you. I’m from the Midwest in United States central time zone. During afternoon 12:00pm and early evening 5:00pm I use to play often in Unranked since Starcraft 2 release. For the past 5 years I couldn’t match with anyone. I give up testing until I thought of trying it at 12:00am I found so many match games with wide ranges of league. I test it at 1:00am to 5:00am with the same results. At 6:00am the queue slowly went into a long halt. Since then, it has been this way for me.

What time zone are you in and what times have you been noticing long queue?

That is not the same problem i think. I have this bug since many yeas. I tryed to play unranked at 6am, 12am, 6pm, 12pm many times. It belongs still to 5-10 Minutes queue time with the result getting 2k MMR players or 5k Masters. My MMR is belong 4,1k MMR right now. Sometimes i’m getting a 4k player, but the issue still is that i have to wait for ages to get a opponent and it always ends up in a weird MMR Range. This belongs just to my first SC2 Account from 2010. Normal Ranked play works fine on this Account.

On the other hand i tryed out a brand new Account i created 6 months ago and this Account works perfectly fine for me. I’m getting Matches in 5 -30 seconds in unranked and all players i was playing against so far belong to the correct MMR i’m playing at. It’s the same like normal ranked play to me.

If your curious my timezone ist CET [UTC+01:00] europe.

But yeah i have given up, that blizzard will fix this issue, because everyone can easily make a new f2P Account right now. It’s just a shame that i can’t transfer all my Addons, Rewards, Skins and Achievements to the new SC2 Account.

Btw. many people thought i’m paranoid about this issue and there can’t be an issue like this on Blizzards side. Because Blizzard never makes misstakes right? :wink: They said i’m propably not getting matches, because my unranked mmr would be to low.
But what the hell does this means?!
It means there are no players in the low league viable for 5 - 10 minutes, because most players are in platinum, diamond or masters?! That’s not the truth. Also playing unranked includes ranked players as well. It’s just you play with hidden mmr.
Fact is i’m getting even more and faster matches between 1.5k-3k mmr, even on my new F2P Account. So this can’t be the issue.

Why dont you just play (and win) your games until you have proper MMR?

You also could start queue on another pc with another low-mmr account, to match quick and leave the game on one of them.

Because i like to play on my Mainaccount i use since the beginning with all my skins and stuff i bought, like i mentioned befoe. I know i can play on my second F2P Account and many other players using smurfs as well, but all i want is playing with one Account. :smiley: The only reason why i created this Account over all the years is to test if there is a problem with unranked on older accounts. And yes the problem just exists to “some” or “older” Accounts. I use unranked sometimes to chill and test builds and stuff, but i wanna play the game with my skins. I’m not going to buy all the skins i used for a new account now, just because Blizzard isn’t willing to fix this issue. Because next time there is another problem with some Accounts and i can rebuy my stuff again. Like you know there are always some new bugs with new upcoming seasons coming. All other than i still play “ranked” on my mainaccount and try to get better like you said. I just want to play unranked sometimes on my mainaccount too, without switching all the times + to test builds + with my skins. I never understood why people are creating more than one account btw. if one is still enough to play the game, if it wouldn’t be so buggy.
