I was made aware of this in the current episode of the pylon show, and I had to check for myself if it was true.
As of now, when you use the beta of the blizzard launcher, in the top section where you can coose your games, Starcraft is not shown by default. The only way to select Starcraft Remastered or Starcraft II is to go on that little box, that has no indication what so ever that there could be more games, and then you have to add sc1 and sc2 to your top bar manually.
I know that I am very emotional about this, but still, this is beyond insulting to everyone who plays the game casually and professionally, and to the hard working people who created theses games as well.
It may not have been that big of a deal, if we hadn´t seen a huge underrepresentation of starcraft at blizzcon. Not a single word was lost about sc in the wrap up video, the art gallary had not a single starcraft related artwork there.
As if Starcraft never existed.
As if Starcraft didn´t kick off esports in the west.
As if Twitch tv wasn´t made huge due to starcraft.
And now, when a new player who just installed the blizzard launcher, who has maybe heard of Overwatch, doesn´t even get notice of Starcraft´s existance?
I am so dissappionted. I know that this isn´t the fault of the Starcraft team which is working so hard to continue the best RTS ever created in the history of RTS.
But please Activision-Blizzard executives or whoever makes these decisions:
There is plenty of room in the upper bar of the launcher. Give EVERY game the representation and acknowledgement it deserves.
SC2 is dead, blizz is just moving ship. You canât blame them from a monetary standpoint. They are moving onto focusing solely on Overwatch and other such games. They even dropped support from HOTS; Blizzard is on its deathbed.
Thank you for your valuable contribution.
If you actually informed yourself about the Starcraft summit, you would know that blizzard is actually pleased with starcaft in every way. The playerbase is as big as at the launch of legacy of the void and extremely stable, it makes a considerable amount of money.
They confirmed starcraft is not going away.
So please stop this dreaded daed gaem meme, it was already old in 2013.
when i can still find 1v1 games in 5 seconds to MAX minute thirty, itâs not dead, not even close to dead. thereâs hundreds of thousands of people that still play sc2 worldwide, in fact, iâve never seen so many of my friends on sc2 in such a long time.
lots of people are getting sick of mobas and battle royale and returning to starcraftâŚ
with that said, it is sad that blizzard doesnât give sc2 more light at their big show, sc2 @ blizzcon had really good viewer numbers this year, i felt like it had way more than other years, but i could be wrong if anyone has that info that would be neat.
2019 was actually much lower than recent previous years. About 1/2 as many viewers as 2018.

However, I will wager an honest guess that a large part of this was because 2019 was so dominated by one race. Not because the game is dying that fast.
Which is also a reminder to those here who constantly argue for balance changes disingenuously, by knowingly advocating for buffs to a race that you know deep down, even though you would never admit it in a trillion years, is already OP, because you like free wins. Or likewise arguing against balances for a race that is objectively statisically UP.
The reminder is - imba will kill, and is killing, this game faster than any other scenario. You are killing the game.
Didnât know there was a new beta launcher. It is rather curious it would automatically put everything except SC:R and SC2 on the top bar by default. Youâd think all the games would be shown by default.
I also think it had a lot to do with it being just a one day tournament. Especially for people in europe it was hard to watch everything. I had to stay up from 8pm to 7 am to see the finals. And I understand that a lot of people will just say âwell ok I´ll just watch the vod.â
last game i saw was reynor vs serral, I think that was around 5:00 am, I have passion, but not enough to continue watching the zerg fiesta, better sleeping and reading the results the day later.
If not for the fact that entire tournament was completed in one day. That ppl leave after RO8 thinking that day 1 was over and second to come. That time zones exists.
Sadly folks will look at raw stats and say that SC2 numbers are down compaired to previous years.
Hmmm. Perhaps. Though thatâs unlikely to be the entire explanation. The problem with that explanation is that peak viewers is always at just the final match (R02). It has by far the highest viewership of any 30 minutes in the entire tournament. Thatâs true every year. Which means peak viewers really only depends on that one match. The number of days that the rest of the tournament did or did not happen in is actually irrelevant to peak viewers.
And again, you can argue that it was a bad time in {insert some region of the world} so not many people there watched it. ButâŚthatâs true every year. : ) it was true in 2018 also. Because no matter what time you choose it will be the middle of the night in some major region. SoâŚnot to be contrary, but Iâm not sure Iâm seeing that as a major difference (or any difference at all) between last year and this year either.
Itâs really hard to watch finals when Eurasia is asleep.
Also in 2018 tournament wasnât completed in one day.

You said it yourself that peak will be in the finals. Compare schedules 2018 vs 2019 and you will see that current year in bad time frame.
Also, you Blizz werenât clear on what happened when. In this recap Winter said that people was leaving the venue after RO8 thinking that day one was over. The Future of StarCraft 2 In 2020 (ft. 2019 Recap)
It does make a difference when you have a 2 day event.
You are right, peak viewership is reached in the Grand Finals, and then it very much depends on when it takes place in all the regions, and especially in the regions that watch starcraft the most.
This Year the Grand Finals startet at around 5 am to 7 am. In South Korea at 2 pm. So the only region that had a hard time watching it was Europe, which is in fact one of the most important SC2 regions for spectators.
If we now had a 2 day tournament and the Grand finals were maybe at 1 am to 3 am depending on where you are in Europe, that would have motivated a lot more people here to stay up and watch them. As for South Korea, it doesn´t change much since it´s still during daytime, and the viewership from SK in not as important since SC1 is the far more popular game there.
Ah, I see they are trying to take after windows. However, they still need an âadvanced settingsâ button that only appears after double clicking âmore infoâ. Then they need to put another little box in those âadvanced settingsâ.
