A simple question: is it still needed to have also splash dmg for Thors? I know, radius was nerfed, cuz it hard countered Mutas, but that was back than, when HIP mode shoot slower but hit harder. Now I think is Thor doing very well even in HIP mode with little support against Mutas - splash isnt needed anymore. And for what else do Terran need air light splash? Phoenix? Better HIP and kill 1-2 direct, Interceptors? Better hit direct Carrier
Marine is enough in my opinion.
That’s the right choice
Marines.
well the thor javelins are the original AA
i would rather see it weaker but with more splash aka 2Thors don’t counter any amount of mutas
as example maybe removing the Anti-light and increasing the radius by like 0.5 to 1.0
that it will get stronger the more your opponent mass air
as example thors beat broodlords in low numbers but micro and blocking path with broodlings let them lose at higher counts i just guess here around 10 vs 10 broodlords start to win vs the clunky Thors thats the point multiple broods stack over each other and the splash mode would cancel it out
Definitely not! No Air splash and hell not with no vs Light/Armored attribute. We had it on Liberators, and it was not Op it was a disaster!
And BL vs Thors? I have to try it out, but I think there is no way that Thor looses to BL anymore after last patches
it was only disaster because of 100% dmg in a radius of 1.5 that are entirely different dimensions well i meant to remove the the light bonus in order to get this if it has just 50% in 1.0radius it wouldn’t be to powerful
Yes there is always a need for terran to have OP units.
For the weapon Javelin Missiles to be useful, yes.
Does Javelin Missiles actually need to exist? My guess is no.
HIP is almost universally more useful, and Thors with HIP can still reasonably defeat Mutalisks as a soft-counter; so the “need” for Javelin Missiles is questionable. The only other cases where Javelin Missiles performs better than HIP are either overkill (mass Phoenixes that cannot attack ground, mass Banshees, etc) or stupid (mass Void Rays, which tend to clump more than any other unit even despite micro to try to split them).
Both Bio and Mech also have plenty of other options to deal with Mutalisks; leaving Javelin Missiles as kind of a weird vestige from WOL where mech’s only real anti-air option was Vikings.
Yes, and they sucked so much that Thors were rarely or never made for anti-air and players were often clamoring for a better alternative. I argue that they should’ve fitted it with an attack like HIP from the beginning without ever adding a splash attack or an activated ability (like the 250mm Strike Cannons disastor).
Marines require a lot of specialized support, upgrades, and an entire playstyle centered around them which often cannot incorporate many higher tech units in order to be effective; so Marines cannot be the only “Terran” counter to anything unless you want 2/3 of the Terran tech-tree to be underused or entirely unviable.
Fortunately, Marines are “not” currently the only counter to any particular unit; so mech/sky is reasonably viable in every match-up at this point–Some particular units may be too strong however, I’d contend that is still the case for the Liberator’s ground attack against Protoss.
