This patch from the perspective of a 4.8k Zerg

It blows. These maps are terrible, I can barely expand to a third vs Terran because they’re so far away and a reaper will always zone out my worker. Then by the time a banshee or two hits I have one less queen because of the increase in price and banshees out-range spores so its pointless to even have them beyond detection.

These maps are also the worst maps I’ve ever played. The third is far away like I mentioned so its so hard to defend any sort of aggression and I have to rush roaches to counter virtually everything now. On Neon Square Terran and Protoss can sit in the little squares and your Ultralisks can’t fit to attack units, and this area easily reaches your fourth base.

I’ve also noticed every Terran i’ve played against has a 60-90% winrate vs Zerg right now, which is crazy. I shouldn’t have to relearn my entire early-middle game while Terrans play the same two banshee two siege tank three base push every game. Guess thats why out of 20 games I’ve played literally one other Zerg. The game feels impossible for me right now.

Literally the only advantage I have is Protoss not having shield batteries and then that just means I have to all-in every game vs them or auto-lose the late game. What the hell were they thinking with this nonsense??!?!

Brother, I play Zerg. I need to have 65 workers before I can even start making a heavy amount of attacking units. Without the extra queens I can’t reach that number and cannot get a large enough army to hold the siege tank marine push. Two banshees just delete half my mineral line now because I dont have enough queens to hold the push and they out range spores. Also what do you mean how is that even good? Its literally the most standard build vs Zerg in the game.

65 workers? Of course you’re 4.8k, you can’t even attack while building up your bases! I’m not saying it’s easy, but it’s a skill for stronger players to learn.

Yea…if you weren’t in gold league or actually played Zerg you would know you can’t make workers and attacking units at the same time because of Larvae. Which is why the queen is so freakin important.

No, I mean attacking with smaller numbers while building up your base at home. Very difficult, but a normal skill for better players.

Theres 35 people higher mmr than me in the entire NA ladder. lol. You can say nonsense all you like, doesn’t make it true.

The patch has been out for less than one day mate.

The maps aren’t anywhere nearly as egregious as last season.

Which actively benefits Zerg players because Terran and protoss struggle to defend third bases that are further away while Zerg can connect theirs with creep, making defense of their bases a lot easier.

We’ve had less than a day on the new patch, and some of that comes directly from games on the previous season’s maps, since the season started a couple weeks ago.

Scouting makes all the difference.

No, they don’t. Spores have 7 range, banshees have 6. They can sit outside spore range, but they don’t outrange spores.

My guy, if you’re 4.8 as you claim, there’s plenty of people out there who are higher MMR than you are.

No it doesnt when you can’t drop your third on time because a reaper or probe is blocking your third and your queen takes forever to get there.

Yes and they still out range them because there are drones + minerals in between the spore. You don’t need to attack the spore, you attack workers without getting hit by the spore easily.

There really isn’t. I’ve played 2 zergs in 25 matches and GM is 50% Protoss again right now. There is always better people but cmon, Zerg is basically nonexistent between Masters 1 and top 10 GM.

90% win rate, 100 games. He did what… 8 games today, since the season started on the 10th of November.

You’re scouting that it’s coming, meaning you can make units instead of just queens.

You said people, you didn’t say Zergs specifically; that’s a whole 'nother thing, and you could be right about that, but I can’t be bothered to fact-check you RN since it’s nearly 11pm.

Firstly, Sitting outside spore targeting range ≠ out-ranging the spore. Two different things.

Secondly, the spore range and banshee range literally have not changed at all for years. There’s literally no difference now compared to last patch, or the patch before, or the patch before that, except that spores do more damage if a drone or unit that the banshee is targeting pulls it in range.

Thirdly, you can actively micro against the banshee by pulling workers to other mineral patches and forcing the banshee to come into range of the spore; it’s something we see players do against banshee openings all the time.

Fourth your initial queen from each hatch is still more than enough to defend against banshee harassment. Again, that hasn’t changed.

Whats units bro? Do you understand Zerg has nothing that shoots up other than queens before they reach your base…right? And then youre bouncing around between a far to reach third and your main with less queens than before the patch.

Two seconds? Try 30 seconds. Queens are slow as all hell off creep. Which means your third base queen is behind even more, which you need for the banshee defense.

Not even going to reply to the rest of your gold level nonsense. You have no understanding of my skill level as Zerg. Trying to argue banshee defense hasn’t changed when you have 1 or 2 less queens now to defend with is honestly ridiculous.

Chances are he can’t, as banshees can arrive pre-lair, usually you’ll see lair completing some time around when the second banshee arrives. Literally all zerg has to defend at this point is queens and spores

hahahahahaha. Modern lotv is skipping cloak because for one the game ramps up insanely quickly that it’s often not worth it and failing to defend banshees in 2024 is a meme. The dps increase of spores nukes them.

PS the whole idea of a banshee hellion poke is that the banshees pull the queens out of position allowing the hellions to roast drones. Hellions are the damage dealers, not banshees.

I still remember Last gsl dark (the gsl winner) vs cure. Dark was so Freaking greedy and skipped scouting and detection completly. 20 or so workers and multiple Queens got killed. Heavy disruption. Multiple hatches got denied.

Dark still won.
Was a banger of a Match tho.
