This macro only approach

Is terrible and unfun.

Cheese and super “go kill as soon as you see weakness” play is not only really tense and great for learning to control small fights well, but it also rounds out your play and builds killer instinct.

Many patches ago I got masters pretty much just off cheese, and knowing when to commit fully / switch out of it, and microing the early game battles. It’s good fun, and a skillset a lot of people on these forums seem to disregard.

I really enjoy mid game. It’s really the most balanced point in the game for all races and a true display of skill. You can finish a game by 10-12 minutes of intense action. There’s so many things you can do in the macro stages.

Cheeses on the other hand are garbage. I get that they’re a big part of the game, and I don’t think all cheese strats should be nerfed to the ground, but some are purely imbalanced whether it’s by abusing race strengths or in a mirror match, taking advantage of your own race’s weakness.

It’s not fun knowing that even if you hold a cheese, you’re probably behind, and there was no better way to hold than the way you held.
