The most useless and forgotten research

–goes to Ventral Sac. In case you don’t know what this is, the Overlords can transport units after the research complete.

Anyone use this before? If so, when is the last time you used it? Honestly I feel like they should just remove it or have Overlord start out with transport for free.

Yes, every game as Zagara while on Temple of the Past. She is the only commander that has this research that require a bit of presence to wipe out the top base.

Kerrigan can Nydus there easily with some vision. Abathur can simply Deep Tunnel, same with Dehaka. And Super Gary flies…

So yeah, definitely overlooked, but I absolutely use it every time.

On DoN you can build some spores on high ground areas. I would do this before I learned to clear the map faster.

i saw it being used once in the portal power zagara solo to transport banes and zagara to rifts in areas that would have been innacessible by land, and it’s the only time I’ve seen it being used for good.

I remember also seeing people using them to transport zagara to the last lock during aggressive recruitment while doing pure idef with banes at the base but I think that was a dumb strategy pretty much only for players that couldn’t do the mutation and had to resort to getting carried while not producing poop trains, which is ok I guess.

But overall it’s a really useless upgrade when the last time I saw it being usefull was in a mutation about 3 years ago, but I don’t think it should be given as default cause I would just end accidentally clicking units inside the overlord, it’s an option to get it, it’s cheap and there’s really not much else you can expect overlords to have.

Edit: oh right and to block the high ground for hunterlings on don.

If you wanna goof around you can load them with banelings. There was a patch so that if the overlord dies, the cargo gets dropped instead of dying. But yea, I don’t use it much.

Hmm having Overlord start out by default can mean you can accidentally load the units and eventually forgot about it later on.

Instead of going by default, how about Overlord need to morph into Transport Overlord? That way, you don’t have to load them up by mistake. Also, how about giving ally access to control Transport Overlord only? This might be advantage to other commanders who lack mobility.

Some people requested that Overlord or Overseer should Collect Biomass.
I am thinking that Ventral Sac could give the ability of Biomass gathering. Thought?

Sometimes the better solutions are the simple ones. In this case biomass works fine as it is. Anything else on top is adding unnecessary complexity.

You do realize this is co-op missions, right?

If they really wanted, they could keep it, but just say make it be a 0 cost research or something to opt into or something of token value. But yeah most coop maps are land bound and overlords are slow and fragile.

Trivia: A Strong Heart can be researched without the expense of minerals and gas. To do this, just click on Fenix exactly 80 times, after which it will explode and immediately appear, but the name will changed to Talandar. At the same time, the A Strong Heart upgrade will disappear from the Forge. :sunglasses:

Better not mess up tho.

WOW! thats cool. Can confirm this is legit. At the 80th click, fenix explodes and talandar is warped in.

It’s one of the easter eggs, you can find out more at SC2coop.

Just imagine the time you waste by clicking 80 times on the same unit. It could even cost you the mission. Researching it with that non mentionable ammount of resources and time is more efficient.

I use it on Dead of Night to build static defenses on the non-reachable high grounds. It is useful, especially for those 50 minerals and gas.

I always thought this was a precursor to introducing island missions. Most COs would be able to get all troops over onto islands and deal with island assaults. However, in lieu of using workarounds (like Tychus making a CC, floating it over for vision, and Medicav-ing on the island), such missions could provide both COs with universal drop ships.
