Few months ago I wrote this idea under one of Lowko’s videos about late ZvP with mass Carriers. But just one man noticed it so I would like to know if anyone other thinks this would be a nice rework. HF
Goals:
- make Carriers more APM heavy and less A-move
- make Carriers benefit from higher microing
- not break the game
My solution:
// Give Beacon-Lock-On ability to Carriers.
/ on deafault this ability would auto cast on enemies. But player can cast it everywhere
/ this ability would create a beacon. Carrier will start launch interceptors to it. And they would fly around and target enemies in 2 range from the beacon.
/ if enemy unit is targeted by this ability the beacon follows this unit. Interceptors target this unit first. After target’s death the beacon stops moving.
/ when used second time the old beacon would move to the new target area or enemy unit. And interceptors would fly to it again.
/ every new interceptor would fly onto Beacon’s location
/ every time the beacon get out of Carrier’s range (lets say 10) it will remove and all interceptors will fly into Carrier. But removes the cooldown of Beacon-Lock-On. (So if fast enough new beacon can be created and interceptors will fly to it instead of back into carrier)
/ Ability range is 7
/ this ability would have 3 seconds cooldown
// Give Return Interceptors Ability to Carriers
/ this ability destroys the beacon. All Interceptors return into Carrier.
/ used to repair interceptors
/ resets the cooldown of Beacon-Lock-On (so player must wait full 3 seconds before launching beacon again)
/ no cooldown. Can be used only when Carrier have Beacon.
== Protoss can still A-move but the lock-on’s would make it harder (3 sec cooldown). On the other hand Carriers do not need to release interceptors all the time and can strategicaly move beacons when microed. Target firing would still work but slower
== APM required for full usage is higher
== Carriers can return interceptors to prevent unneccessary losses
== the visual part would look relatively the same as now. Only the lock-ons on units would look some way (like a blue cyclone’s Lock on). But the beacons itself would not be visible

Arbiter Abilities:
/ Small Slow Field (would also affect interceptors and structures; grant small vision and detects cloaked enemies inside);
/ Cloaking ability (Cloaks units around Arbiter [Not the Arbiter!] for 8 seconds)
/ Emergency shell (protect a unit from obducts (also KD-8 charge and Matrix) and slowing effects (marauder shell; fungal) Lasts 30 seconds)
== more APM for Protos Air
== less juicy obducts
== far less cloaks with not a single source (multiple arbiters); They would be more powerfull;
== slow fields would make brood lords weaker against support archons and Carriers would not fall to coruptors. So this means Zerg must defend and make small counter attacks from different side where are not the carriers. (ZvP mass Carrier late game)
/ But I dont know where would Arbiters be build. If at Stargate; Nexus; Or morph from oracles or Carriers themselves

A nerff to the Carrier without giving anything in return (the Recall Interceptors is just done with selecting Carriers and pressing S).
A nerff to Mothership’s/Arbiter’s Cloak (if cloak works only for …8 seconds).

In principle i agree to make Carrier more APM intensive, but only if something substantial would be given in return.
This…is just a straight nerff.
As if we do not have enough units to babbysitt…Templars, Sentries, Stalkers, Disruptors, Prisms …
Now we should micro individually even the Interceptors…

This was suggested as an upgrade for Carriers. Because you would not need to slowly release interceptors. Instead you would have them already out. Thats the core of this Idea.
And Cloak could be 30 seconds or 20 seconds. I thought you will get the idea. They are not fixed values.
And I dont think Carriers are nerffed enough. They are kind of balanced. But the only think that should be changed is their use in lower leagues (remember the game should be more playable by newbies) and their micro potencial. Nothing more I guess.
For a fair state bring back graviton catapult and that s all
And you could also do A-move allways so this should be OK if you are microing Templars, Sentries, Stalkers, Disruptors or Prisms…

You think it was balanced with gravity catapult? So why did they remove it?
(And also this is not APM thing. And I have the opinion they should have some bonus for microing)
Carrier ship serve to assault catapult removed cause a lot complain why my tier 2 hydra all in from 3 hatch atleast cant kill a 6 carrier witch is tier 3 unit atleast that

Take a look on battle cruiser a lot micro >? Fly from the fog harass and press 1 button retreat a lot micro plus while mass battle cruser you will not micro each on 150 supply fleet
And here are thing now since catapult deleted now for defence 3 base a carrier not enough need a second tier 3 unit like templar or rather disruptors and here we go for hydra queen macrh to have chance to survive you need 2 type tier 3 unit against tier 2 hydra and some tier zero 8 queens
well. That is 25 Carriers. But no one said you must micro every single one. You can let them attack as they will. The idea I have suggested was for players to have the bonus for microing.
It may be too OP when every carrier would have interceptors already out.

Not bronze atleast for a funny stuff carrier like suport for my disruptors i microing ground unit but actually it sky toss witch bunch archont templar disruptors and etc.
Plus like other dude say toss was already microing force carrier not get agro by wrong target command taking back ceptors

Autobuild disable would not give you any bonuses. This would.
I had also idea to have few types of interceptors but who would ever like to choose between 4+4 vs light and 12+8 vs structure or 5+3 vs massive etc…
But what I want is not “make Carrier cost APM” no.
I want: “make Carrier better when microed better”.
