If we look at the “free units” or better “Spawn Locusts” in a more distanced way then it is a dmg ability with CD.
the dangerous thing about SH is the mass.
if a toss builds ~12 disruptor and fires them constantly into an army, these burst dmg will turn on. you can’t do this damage on buildings. but the enemy is also under pressure.
BC can kill their zerg counter with Yamato (Corruptor 150/100)
and there are even more abilities. i find it hard to say what the ratio of cd to ability is fair. because you also have to look at the unity. Ravager or BC have a skill but both can fight. SH/ Disruptor are useless with cd.
Dmg ability do not have HP. Locust do. This is why we call it “Free unit” while we can’t say the same to storm.
If you give HP to Storm/Nova and let it tank dmg, move and block other units, then it is a “Free unit”. As of now, it is not a “Free unit”.
The difference between “Dmg spell” and “Free unit” are so huge that I can’t understand how you got them to mix up.
That is irrelevant. Furthermore having HP and being destructible in the process is not a bonus but an liability. Whineterrans of your calibre with Locust HP are losing your mind, imagine how you will wail/scream/cry if Locusts were …invincible.
You have a lot of problems with the abstract thinking, Damage in exchange of time (energy is a function of time with the liability of being denied) can take an infinity of forms. Neither is free.
I think that “Spawn Locusts” can be classified as a dmg ability. By definition.
Something like:
Dmg ability -> Create Unit -> Spawn Locusts
Dmg ability -> AoE / over time -> Storm
but I’ll admit the locus can also be blocked, meaning that they also have Force Field properties.
And like I said how efficient what is, is something else. For example: against marine you see storm because it is effective, but it is rare to play sh against bio.
With mech it looks different again.
Tell you what. Go ahead and get rid of swarm hosts. Just make sure you buff other zerg harrassment options.
Swarmhost isn’t even harassment. It literally takes up a massive portion of supply and stays alive longer than any other form of harass and does insane damage. This entire unit just destroys the fundamentals of SC and unit trading. If the locusts cost minerals like interceptors do then nobody would complain, but right now you might as well balance it out and give Protoss free interceptors.
Protoss issues with SH are not SH on themselves. The synergy SH/Nydus is what makes SH that dangerous. Nydus covers for SH weak-points and is a win-win situation.
That is true, I 100% agree with you, but nydus has already been nerfed, it really wouldn’t hurt swarmhosts to have another upgrade. I still think they should have kept flying locusts an upgrade. Its insane they start out able to fly.
I have been always for upgrades that scaled in mid-late game. It is even a way for balancing the game when all 3 races do not get units with the full potential out of the box (Tempest, Carrier). BW was 1000 times better in that direction (Carrier and Revers had each 2 upgrades before they gained the full potential).
The dumbing-down that SC2 has done to the game in the name of fast-entertainment has caused severe damage to this game.

do locusts then also have no more lifetime? or are they costing so they still have a lifetime? will then be adapted to the CD.

because i like builds like 2 Base sh, zerg allow you to go aggressive early without being in front of a wall.
On TvZ it looks different, I don’t want to be forced to go on hive all the time just because T puts tanks everywhere.
I also think that infestor one upgrade should be cancelled. example: “Neural parasite” which is an alternative to the spire, you’d still be forced to build “pathogen glands”. to handle BC or Carrier rush.
or that abilities like “lock on” are not default.
If you paid for the unit, have at it. Make them permanent. At that point you are trading minerals for minerals.
They tried neural without upgrade a patch back and I think it was too abused. They should just do something better with microbial shroud, every time I see that spell a feels bad man hits me lol.
I just want to point out that this is dangerous, too.
1x wave 12 sh = 24 sh that make constant in your main base dmg. in the worst case a second wave comes to the second base while the first one is still doing damage.
Make a limiter for max spwan units per sh.
even if 24 locusts you can’t hold warps with 4-6 zealot.
positive would make sh harass interesting in small numbers 2-3. because you are forced to kill the locusts and not only pull workers away.
I agree, though all this is fine and dandy, it isn’t likely we are going to see a balance patch anytime soon. I just hope Blizzard says something. To be honest this patch has us as close to balanced as we ever have been, Protoss needs some love in PvZ and the game is starting to look really nice, well to me anyways.
The thing is even if you make the spell cost 0 energy to cast a massive storm that have the range of an entire map, as long as it does not move, does not benefit from unit upgrade, can’t block or function like a normal unit, it will still label as “Spell” ,“Super spell”, or “Free super spell” at most, but never ever called “Free unit”.
As for “Spawn Locust”, Do you call Barrack a spell caster now?
