So I really like the co-op mode in Star-Craft 2, I hit max level on all of the characters and got about 110~ mastery rank.
I read that people would have liked to have an option to reset their progress back to level 1.
Honestly I would not mind something like that either.
So I was thinking since we still have 90 more theoretical mastery points to invest in and many more difficulty levels were added (brutal++++) so why not use this and give us an option to “promote” our characters which will result in going back to level 1 and receiving extra mastery point/s for doing so?
Edit: For me personally it would have been nice if we could receive experience to the mastery progress and have its bonuses active while leveling.
P.S.
I know those sort of features are not very likely to ever happen but can’t a man dream?
Some players including myself have asked for a toggle-able prestige system similar to what Call of Duty does where you would level everyone to 15 and then reset and gain a prestige level. Another thing I personally want to see is separate levels for each CO that tells players how much experience you’ve had with that CO. Also we do need another new difficulty that is NOT Brutal+ with more some more features.
Prestige and CO levels is easy to implement. The new difficulty is the only thing that will take some work. But it’s for the better because right now the standard difficulty without mutators is too easy.
Other than the “prestige point”, what’s the “goal” of this? Being able to “earn” to 180, 270, etc. “mastery points”?
Are those “Extra points” still going to be useful in a world where mastery spending is still capped at 30 per “level”?
How would this work with the whole “level 1000 ascention” thing? Does the “pre-reset” XP “come back” once I exceed the level at which I reset myself (ie, I reset at Level 106, do I “see” those XP again when I hit Level 107 “post reset”?
3A: If not, are “prestige” points going to be “priced”? To explain: I’m spending a lot less XP to “prestige” at L106 than the guy who’s already L200, L300, L500+. However, if a “prestige” point is “priced” at the amount of XP necessary to go from 1-100, the people with higher levels can “buy up” enough prestige points to match how many points they’d have if they reset as soon as the option became available.
I could be wrong, but I vaguely remember that the original Co-op system “capped” at L90 (and all mastery points earned) - and “ascention” (Levels 91-1000) were added to be the “prestige” system of Co-op…
Yeah I think you are right but that prestige system was kinda pointless., just a number and silly icon rewards. I think a level reset and a mastery point (additional 90 points after which you get nothing but can still reset to level 1) should not be to hard to implement and it will encourage us to reset our characters and start “fresh”.
They have been tweaking Diablo 3 with free small content updates for many years so why not add something of this sort to Starcraft 2 as well (not to mention that unlike Diablo3, here they are still selling dlc characters)
Wanted to understand what exactly you’re proposing: So you want to reset to level 1 but keep your existing 90 Mastery points? And once you’re back to 1 progressing to lvl 90 again, you gradually gain 90 additional points …with the same XP effort it took to gain the original 90 points?
180 Mastery points would make every commander OP, without needing to “git gud”.
Though it may encourage more people to do Brutal+1-6.
The “additional” 90 points could be incorporated into the existing Ascension XP system instead of resetting to 1. And your current Ascension level would already give you some of those points, or all.
Level 0 to 90 requires 18,467,500 XP. That ~18m XP is equivalent to 92 Ascension levels (each at 200,000 XP) ie. level 182. So it’s much more simple to just give 1 additional mastery point per ascension level until 180. Requires no reset/prestige system to be created.
Should the additional 90 be linear (like Ascension) or “increasing + exponential” like the current Mastery?
Isn’t Ascension similar to Prestige? I haven’t played CoD.
You mean tells other players how much experience you’ve had with that CO. Doesn’t accomplish anything. While anyone might suck at a CO they’ve just trained to 15, if they’re experienced enough at SC2/Co-op, they’ll not-suck very quickly. Otoh, plain ol’ grinding gets you XP and Ascension but there are adequate mentions of how someone’s Mastery or Ascension level is not an indicator of how good they are. So how would a per-CO indicator change anything? Also doesn’t take into account players who are on multiple regions, as with the current system.
Again, that would be quite OP since you’d have your original 90 points and for the next 90 points, the first 50 come more easily than the last 40. If you already have 90 points, getting an additional 50 isn’t hard, or challenging or an indicator of anything useful. (The first 50 points are just 20% of total XP to lvl 90.)
If we were to have this, the linear progression in Ascension is a better place to implement it.
adding 90 more mastery points would allow players to max all 6 power sets. another way to start over is to go to a different server. if you normally play on the american servers, your levels is stored there. if you go to the european or asian servers however, you do not have that progress, as your progress(not what you have purchased) is server specific.
Well maybe we can skip on the extra 90 mastery points if you think it will make everything that easy. I honestly not so sure since brutal 1-6 is a thing now.
But I do think that having an option to reset your character to level 1 and gain something for doing so is a nice feature and many people like and use that in all sort of games.
So you spend X amount of hours leveling up your commander…and you want to get rid of all that progress? That’s like making it to the final boss and then deleting your save file so you can play again. Like what was the point of all that time invested if you are just going to wipe it out?
It’s not about encouraging anyone, its about commanders becoming completely broken with 180 mastery points, and disappearing of need to choose masteries (which is true for some mastery points tiers of some commanders even now) which makes game uninteresting anymore. If you don’t like co-op - just dont play it, if you like co-op - you dont need some artificial meaningless leveling to make it interesting. I’m pretty fine with that system, u “worked” hard for your 90 lvl and get it and enjoy the spoils - when the real game begins. The thing that co-op really needs is new maps and new difficuly, brutal+ is not the one - it’s just random custom mutators mode, not the new difficulty really.
There is no big problem with leveling now, you can just spam short maps, it completes pretty fast (without speedrunning thing 14-15 minutes for “Void Thrashing” is pretty achievable while not tryharding). It’s fast enough, i suppose.
Of course the ideal situation will be to have a stream of new content. But having 1 new hero and one new map content which equals maybe a few days of farming and being released once in half a year or more, its just to little and even that will stop at some point since the player base aint getting bigger(?).
What I want is more ways to keep us engaged (something reasonable which can actually be done). A prestige system is something that works well.
Or maybe they can come up with some sort of a seasonal event which makes things feel fresh? But I guess something of this sorts is very unlikely either.
Like I said we can skip the mastery gain…
But a “real” new difficulty with new features across all the maps is simply not going to happen. I am trying to be reasonable and hoping for something…
A simple prestige system should be pretty easy to set up.
And If I didnt like co-op I would not be here? What is the point of this?
This community is small enough as it is… why the hostility?
