Thank you! Let me think over some of that and practice more and see what comes of it. This helps me in my thought of looking pass the mass use barrier some get in, where they think they need a bunch of a certain unit to be effective, but as you say, just having a few DTs mixed in or strategically placed can be effective.

If they would put back observers it would help then. Haven’t played in a long time but it sounds like they were removed.

Protoss were originally the only race with an invisible detector. Zerg had starting detection. And terrain had multiple detectors and versatility, scans/observers.

They should go back in that direction again.

Edit: Looks like observer is still in game. Not sure what the complaint is. Protoss have the ultimate cloaked units… They don’t need it as much. Just leave some cloaky units in your base. If the enemy uses detection it’s their choice. Work around it. What is lacking is default detection from zerg overlords and all other units. That is where the game is messed up now. let alone drop abilities that aren’t over expensive. And all around droop abilities for all races. Drop is not something that should be lopsided.

Maybe they should put the arbiter back in also. 8) Or cloak from mothership. Or are those still in game?

All races have transport units. Toss has Warp Prism, Terran has Medivac, and Zerg has Overlords, but Overlords need to be upgraded before they can actually carry anything.

Protoss hasn’t had Arbiters in the versus game since Brood War. The Mothership is effectively the new Arbiter. And yes, it still has an area cloak around it, just like the Arbiter had.

Scouting is irrelevent when you can’t access detectors quickly enough.

But you can access detectors quickly if you know what’s coming. And for that you need to scout.

  • Zerg only needs Lair to get Overseers, and they can use Spore Crawlers which merely require a Spawning Pool.
  • Protoss can get Observers from Robotics Facility, or Oracles from Stargate. Both of those can be Chronoboosted. Photon Cannons require Forge, so they’re not feasible as a quick response.
  • Terran is slowest to get their mobile detection, requiring Starport with Tech Lab, but they have Scan as a temporary measure. Missile Turrets require Engineering Bay, so they’re not feasible as a quick response.

But in order to get those it time, you can’t just making them when burrowed or cloaked units are in your face; you need to spot them from afar. So yeah, scouting is very relevant.

You seem to miss the point of scouting. If you see protoss building a Dark Shrine, you should get detection. If you see them already having a Dark Shrine, your scouting failed.

Good scouting means you know what tech options they opened. Did they go for one or two gas? Did they expand? Did the Zerg upgrade to Lair yet? Did the Protoss get a Cybernetics Core? Did the Terran go for several Barracks or did they go for higher tech?

Sometimes you can actually tell pretty early on if they are rushing to tech. If a Protoss is going double gas, and gets a Cybernetic Core straight after getting just one or two Gateways you should suspect early air or Dark Templar, if you then spot an early Twilight Council, then its very likely Dark Templars.

But when in doubt, always get the tech needed to get detection, or even just get detection. Especially near your mineral line.

Anything is irrelevant if the units are already killing you cloaked or uncloaked and you were not ready. As others have said, scouting is relevant to know what and when something is coming.

Stealth has the exact same purpose as units being air or ground -> you need somethin special to counter them.
By your logic air units should be removed.
