Terran most OP with the new patch to ghosts. Also easiest to play. Tanks work versus everything ground, you have different builds openers that can all flow to macro orientated play but you can also proxy cheese and allin.
2 tank push is really easy to do and works versus almost all races!
OP race are zergs, but they need skill.
Weak race are protoss, but they don’t need skill and on low ranks they are pretty good.
Terran ruin TvP and 50\50 TvZ.
You are in a similar boat to me then, I recently returned to SC2 having played in HoTS. My advice is this. Balance at your level of play (and mine and the majority of people moaning on the forums) is irrelevant. If your issue can be solved with “get better at the game” then it’s not an issue.
As you can see, the two people posting before me have different opinions on which race is OP, and let’s say I’m not in the least shocked to see ErazorZ saying Terran is OP given his recent posts :D.
There was recently a patch that changed certain aspects of the game, the most notable buff was probably to the Ghost EMP and the “bug fix” to infested Terran damage, which was quite a significant nerf.
Early signs definitely show improvements for Terran compared to before. The changes to Infested Terrans doesn’t seem to affected Zerg’s game plan too much, infestor broodlord is still very much a thing, and Protoss I can’t really comment on too much but the change to interceptors seems negligible and tbh I’ve just not watch too many Protoss pro games yet, Trap ( P ) smashed Cure (T) in the GSL and Cure (T) smashed herO ( P ) (though herO definitely threw game 2)!
That being said it is way too early to draw any conclusions from the patch yet, which is to say we don’t actually know which race is OP right now, there is much too still be learned.
So go into a few custom games with friends or against bots, or play some unranked/ranked ladder, find a few build orders, play around with the new units and choose the race YOU want to play. I know that might seem like a “non-answer” but it’s the best one.
The biggest change is the number of bases & workers on average and at the start of the game.
So my advice would be to train early and mid-game a lot (spending skill).
Just play the race which has the most interesting units in your oppionion or choose the race where the mirror matchup is best for you.

Don’t EVER ask this on this forum, it won’t end well
No race is really the easiest and you’re going to have a hard time getting back into the game after taking so much time off of it. I recommend playing Random or pick the first race that catches your attention. Watch high level players of the race you want to play and see how they play against particular styles and how they handle things. Then build yourself up from there.
No matter how you try to spin it, getting back into the game after a year or longer is going to take some time, effort, and maybe a bit of rage to clean up the rust.
you could play co-op, that might help you get back into the game.
Do you really think this is a smart question to ask here?
i have no idea why people is being so mean. another thing you can do is of course to use 2 accounts linked and test different strategies. that does require 2 computers however.
This is what I was expecting to hear tbh, but I thought I would ask just incase. Right now I’m flip flopping between Zerg and Terran, Ill try to find out which suits me better. ty for taking the time to provide a response.
OH man, those extra workers to start the game was a shock. I kinda prefer starting with less worker. ty for the tips
Don’t do this.
also ErazonrZ, don’t fall for it god damnit.
Haven’t watched any of his videos yet, but skimmed his channel. Looks like exactly what I need. thanks
I went to the co-op mission forums, and those people seem angry. Not sure if I want to play with them seeing as I will probably be terrible at first.
Hey man!
Masters 2 Here to help
Here’s my honest advice:
Try all 3 races for a bit, see which one you like the most. Stick to it. That’s the best way to enjoy the game, there isn’t and never have been a clear definitive, “This race is best” period in sc2, always possible to win in some way, just down to your mechanics.
and please, remember this: Do not ever blame balance. I’ve talked to a professional (Future) and other Gm’s and they tell me up until mid-high Gm, it’s just down to mechanics.
Me being scary aside, I don’t mind playing co-op with a newbie, I’d be happy to help if you’d like
Mabadi#2380, I’m usually on NA but I can be on EU aswell
There has been something of an uprising in co-op forums, but don’t worry yourself, most players are pretty nice.
If you’re worried, my advice would be to avoid Hard and Casual, both those difficulties feature the majority of the arrogant hotshots who think they are a lot better than they are, and blame teammates. Still the minority, but if you want to be really safe…
Also, if you do start with co-op, try to get to brutal difficulty before switching over, because for some strange reason they put all the lower difficulties on slower game speeds.
For commanders most similar to 1v1, your best for terran is either Raynor or Nova, your best for Protoss is either Artanis or Fenix, and your best for Zerg is Stetmann (by far) or Zagara.
As for my opinions on difficulty of 1v1 races:
Zerg has some all-ins/cheeses that are so simple and straightforward, a trained chimp could do it, but if you want to macro than you have a very steep learning curve for the early leagues. Between creep and injects and critical mass armies, Zerg probably gets the best help from co-op play.
Protoss has an extremely smooth learning curve until masters, then it hits the fan hard. Also, it is the most clear example of “the last 10% of the skill is 90% of the performance”, so you’ll progress relatively slowly. But if you want the smoothest transition through the early leagues, protoss is probably the best.
Terran is the least improvisation proof race, so you will probably want to look up basic build orders before starting. However, terran has somewhat the opposite learning curve of protoss, where it’s a bit wacky in early leagues, but the curve is very smooth from plat through to GM.
TY for the tips, always appreciate it. I will try some co-op just to see what its all about.
Appreciate the advise, I have been watching some SC2 games online to see what peaks my interest. Im excited to get back into this game. doubt Ill ever get to Masters, ill be happy to get PLAT
