StarCraft II Performance

Hello, guys.

I recently started playing StarCraft II (better late than never) and I’m having issues with fps drops below 30 during large battles. I would like some tips from the veteran players in how to optimize the game’s performance.

My humble PC:

Windows 11
Intel Core i7-10750H
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 1650 4GB
8GB DDR4 RAM
512GB SSD NVMe
Windows 11 Home

Run openhardwaremonitor and see what’s maxing out during these battles. Is it ram, cpu, or gpu?

Upgrade whichever one is the weak link by picking the one with the highest “CPU Mark” score for your budget (also consider the compatibility w/ the rest of your PC):

But if I had to guess, it’s probably the graphics card since your 1650 is quite antiquated. My personal recommendation on a budget GPU is the rtx 4060. It has great performance and it’s a good price. To recoup costs, you can sell your GPU on craigslist or ebay. You can generally get 40-60% of the market price for a used PC part.

Every couple years I rebuild my PC from scratch & sell the old one. Nowadays I use a slightly different process for part selection but this process worked well for me for years.

Thanks, mate. I’ll try those tips. I’m impressed to know that the game is still quite demanding on the hardware even though it’s “old”.

I think unless you have very fancy graphics settings, the limit in a game like this would typically be CPU single core performance.

If is the GPU you could try reducing the graphics from “normal” to “low”. If it’s the CPU, you’re pretty much toast without an upgrade. I doubt it’s ram, but it depends on how much other stuff you have running in the background.

You’re using a laptop. Laptop isn’t great with sc2, unless like if it’s some e-sport laptop that is designed to run with a heat and demanding.

There might be setting in the control panel to make laptop constantly run without power saving and it could make it run a bit faster but it you already did that there isnt much you can do.

Make sure the game has high cpu priority in task manager
