So I, embarrassingly, lost to a ghost rush today. Not kidding. I greedily went nexus first against a Terran, saw a ghost coming into my base… killed it. And then another one came in cloaked and I had just started a robo. It was a close game but he then went mech with ghosts and it was actually pretty powerful, especially with the eco damage he did at the start and the early access to EMP. After I gg’d I asked him what the heck was this build and he called it “Spooky Mech”
I don’t think I need a build to counter it. If I just got a robo earlier I could have probably just used chargelot archon immortal to bully him if I could have stopped his eco damage, gotten the lead and won. I am not even mad, I thought it was actually pretty funny. My PvT usually hovers 75-80% win rate so it was refreshing facing something new and surprisingly good considering how weird it was.

Ghost mech has been a thing for a while, though going through a ghost rush into mech is a little odd. I kinda like it though?
Actually after looking at it, I am kinda annoyed. Ghost academy is only 150/50 and only requires a barracks (and tech lab to actually produce ghosts). Meanwhile templar archives requires gateway, cyber core, twilight (150/100), and then costs 150/200 and then ANOTHER 200/200 to get storm. Meanwhile the ghost is instantly useful with EMP plus isnt a slow liability like HT and has a good auto attack. And is useful throughout the game with personal cloak, improved EMP, and maybe even nuke. Now that I am looking at it I don’t know why I am not seeing ghosts more often early game and honestly should be in every TvP comp.
Only bad thing about them is that at 150/125, Ghosts are ridiculously expensive. Didn’t realize they cost that much. But still, definitely worth it, at least by mid game.
Answered your own question here. We simply don’t have the gas until later. They are one of the best casters in the game, however.
