Spine rushes are becoming a real problem in 1v1

I was doing a 1v1. ZVZ. This Zerg I was playing against spine crushed me. By the time I already had some units out, there was spines attacking my hatchery, queens after my workers and zerglings attacking my extractors. This has happened multiple times now and I cannot manage to counter unless I do the same things. I think that a lair should be required to build spine crawlers cause this is getting ridiculous.

And if a Protoss decides to CannonRush? Zergs have Spines and still fail defending a lot of times, now you want to make the CNR even more powerful?
That would “fix” PvZ but i doubt people would be happy with 3-4 minute games.

As long as you feel happy.

Oh. The new patch for the 10th anniversary celebration will be effect on the Mars server after half an hour. You don’t like it?

OP have you tried actually getting out of gold league?

if you go hatch first and they rush you… yup. that’s what happens, it’s not a problem.

Spine push>spine rush

Garbage like this is how Void Rays get nerfed, lul

If you’re going to play hatch first, you’re weak to 12 pool, and drone pull is just the most all-in version of 12 pool. Play more 1v1 as opposed to garbage team games (yes, I’m saying this as someone that also plays a lot of team games) and you’ll learn how to hold it since you can’t just count on your teammate to carry your early game.

Edit - didn’t see the post to the video I was referencing ^ nicely done

You should have an overlord somewhere in front of your base… then you’ll see drones walking to your base, which gives you about 5-15 seconds to start 4-6 spines before they start making theirs.

Neuro has a YouTube video recently that he defended a spine rush with. And then out of boredom he made like 20 spines and walked them across the map and won. 5250 MMR. Check it out…

But if you see drones coming you should have ample time to react. It’s all about your overlord placement, and you should REALLY pay attention to where to place them in ZvZ, as Zerg won’t have anything that will force you to take your overlords back home like Terran and Protoss do.

hmmm have u tried not letting the spine crawler finish ?

nah, workers don’t get an attack until you make it out of Gold, or buy it from Blizzardstore.

dont forget the mini-map DLC for extra 5 bucks

Actually, you are facing this problem because of a few issues:

  • You need to know that your hatch’s vision is just short of 2 squares away from the edge of the creep it spawns. This means that someone can hide a spine there if you do not scout properly.
  • You should position an OL near the entrance of your base and be attentive to your mini map in case a drone walks by. Alternatively you can just put it near your hatch to make up for the lack of vision thereof.
  • To counter a spine that is building, you need 4 drones on the building. Any more and you are wasting resources (approx 1 mineral per sec per worker). I am assuming you did not go hatch first before pool (which should not be recommended unless you really know what you are doing).
  • You must save a few larvae for lings when you spot the spine / drone so that you have units out asap to deal with additional lings or spines that may come (and so that your drones can go back to mining).
