So here's what you need to do if you SC3

For starters you need have the understanding that solo games are not popular anymore.

League of legends semifinals peaked out at 1million concurrent viewers. They have played the same freakin map for 9 years. Their streamer directories are poppin’

CSGO tournaments still peak out at around 700,000 viewers concurrently. Their streamer directories are poppin’

Hearthstone is doing fine, but that’s natural because card games have been around for a millenia.

Where did LOL get their idea from? Something you never bothered to capitalize on —> WC3’s DOTA.

I don’t think it takes a rocket scientist to figure out that the success of games these days are centralized around team play. That being said here’s what I think you should do, if you do decide to go with SC3 ( which I would very much like to see )

Make the next RTS revolve around team games. You’ve had plenty of time to figure out that people are not interested in starcraft 1v1, so I think it’s time to explore a new avenue.

To be frank, I think you already shot this genre in the foot with your negligence and lack of understanding of the evolution of esports, but then again no one else of your stature has even tried to venture down that path.

I have 50,000 followers on Twitch, playing a very unpopular game-type so I’m relatively certain that there are plenty of people out there that would give it a chance.

Oh look its one of those douches.

Multiplayer teamgames are the cancer of gaming these days.
So is E-sports centric titles.

Just hop in a 4v4 game and see how luckbased everything is.

The only way howto make teamgames not revolve around luck (mmr being the luckfactor here) is by forcing people to create there own teams, and only a handfull of people will actually commit to doing that.

sc2 thrives because theres no weak cog, get it?, that ruins your entire game for you. It revolves all around you being better then your opponent. Not some luck based factor like a teammate who is having an off day. or a Pug.

The problem with gaming these days is that people are too cassual, since gaming went mainstream. It has never been about the genre.

People want easy endorphine releases by seeing a ‘win’ or a ‘victory’ screen over actually working for it. Doing something to actually achieve something.

MMO’s are the perfect example of that.

The only way how i could see starcraft 3 become a teamgame; Allow 1 person to be the ‘commander’ who macro’s up (like in archon mode).

Allow multiple people (dependant on the game type) to ‘take control’ of a unit. Showing them an FPS view. Allowing them to play FPS centric gameplay.

Where the commander ‘creates’ the map and actually commands the units.

The people who would then take control could be seen as ‘hero’ units. Everytime they die they respawn as another unit.

It would give the RTS genre a FPS style combat. Where 1 guy commanding could literally whipe 20 guys in a team by being better.

But it would also showcase how the best of the best FPS players could then make comebacks like youve never seen before.

I know this is a genre that doesnt exist yet. And ive been dreaming and thinking about such a game style for such a long time.

But knowing activision is now in firm control, the only thing they’d want to release is copy pastes of old/other games.

They dont want creative new genre breaking ‘gambles’

The only thing I see here is an elitist mindset because you play 1v1 ( even though yo uplay it a low rank )

Your elitist mindset does not change the fact that the direction of games are teamplay, not 1v1.

Sorry

It has nothing to do with being elitist. Its about being actually competetive.

Teamgames cannot work from a longevity point of view.

I get it your a consumer, you just consume consume consume, regardless of quality.

I preffer quality in my games.

Exactly so you’re not saying anything that’s good for the game, but your own selfish needs.

Why can’t we just have games for every niche and everybody? Team players can have their mobas, solo players can have their RTS.

Why must it be one or the other? Compromise, in-between and all that are important.

Because if blizzard continues down this path, we won’t see a SC3 and we certainly won’t have the RTS genre anymore?

I think that’s just your opinion, and forgive me if I don’t put much value into what you say. I am aware that you are a fairly famous Twitch streamer, but you are certainly far from being an industry expert.

yeah, compare games of different genres makes sense… not.

if you want to compare sc2 to any other game, use rts games. if you do this, you will see, that there is literally no other competive rts from another developer.

why is that the case? because the genre itself is dying. easy as this. so if sc2 isnt achieving millions of views at twitch, its not the fault of sc2, its because people dont like the genre anymore.

This isn’t about comparing genre’s. It’s about looking at the big picture and what games are being successful vs SC2.

Your strategy to get more players is so effective that I, a loyal player, wouldn’t play this new SC3.

RTS is not dead. We just had Battlefleet Gothic: Armada 2 released earlier this year. If there’s no money to be made, they wouldn’t bother making new RTS games, yet they do. For Emperor’s sake, can we stop with the hyperbole, exaggerations and overdramatization? The genre is not dying, and Starcraft 2 is not dead.

and that’s fine. we can clearly see a bigger audience resides in team games.

the reason why these games are successful is that they arent rts games.

except the atricel that just came out about how they aren’t going to make SC3?

Attacking the fanbase of a game is very intelligent. Why keep the PC gamers loyal to Diablo when we could cultivate a mobile market instead?

I disagree. I’ve played this game for 20 years, and Starcraft 1’s team game scene was so much bigger than sc2’s, which is why I think it’s still to this day more popular than SC2.

You mean solo games like God of War, The Outer Worlds or the Witcher 3?

Actually, why are you even here? You clearly don’t like SC2. Why are you trying to destroy the hobby of people that actually care about the game?

yes, theres no doubt sc bw was successful, but as you said, 20 years ago. you had the big rts genre boom with games like dune, command and conquer, warcraft etc. but now? theres no other relevant rts beside the games made by blizz.
