Slow map load times

occasionally a regular match loads (or doesn’t) instead of the usual 15 - 30 second load time, it simply hang, or loads less than 20% in a whole minute (Which normally could load 2 or 3 times over), usually when this happens the other play doesn’t seem to load at all. There appears to be some strange glitch causing loading failure.
EDIT: I Notice it also seems to happen with the same players, like they have some kind of malware on their system that makes you load slow.
Now it wont let me que saying my status is locked.

yeh I just recently started having the same issue “status locked”, was wondering what you did to resolve the problem, thank you

When the game loads, it seems to go in sections and wait on the other players. Like, you’ll hit 25% and it’ll wait for the other players to get to 25% and then the next segment will be available. Probably how the servers distribute information. You’ll never have a full loading bar while someone else is at 0% for example.

I’m not sure about that error though

For me it went away after a few minutes of clicking play.

That would make absolutely no sense because the maps are already downloaded on each players PC when the game is installed. Each computer loads completely independently. You don’t run off the other players RAM when the map loads. The only was that could possibly happen is if someone was assstupid and purposely programmed computers to stop loading and wait for no absolutely no reason and load the rest later instead of just loading normal at computer speed,. and I don’t think blizzard engineers have autism.

Here is how multi player games work.
each player initiates a game, each machine loads the play data, maps, images, unit models and skins, in that order.
The game synchronizes and then starts.

other games may vary somewhat in this but that is the basic standard of what happens. Other players machines have zero effect on your machine, unless the other player is the host machine, even then it would only have an effect on live play data (Which doesn’t start until the game starts), not preloaded things like, the map and universally standard across every play session things like models, skins, and map terrain and audio.

The game seems to be in sync to the server. There should be an actual server running each game that you and your opponent are not the only ones who have the database running (so if one client is out of sync, the game running on server is used as reference). The availability of those servers seems to decide the upper limit on how fast you can load a game.

Try to play the game offline and load single player, it is much much faster to load in that case.

Kay. Do you ever watch your load times? Because I watch them every single game for the past 1,000 games and what I explained is what happens. I don’t know the reasoning behind it, but that is 100% how it works.

Watch your load times and tell me a time you hit 100% when someone else was at 0% or less than 25%. It’s absolutely true. I don’t understand why it is set up in this nature, but it is. I have a $3000 computer and I’ve been matched against potato computers where the dude takes 2 minutes to load. I never hit 100% until the other person at least has a portion of the percentage done. It’s true, whether it makes sense to you or not.

I don’t think it would have to do with loading the map. It would have to do with you and another person joining a map that the server is hosting. Server might wait for both of you to load a portion of the data and continue from there, after understanding you both sent and received a response.

They don’t host maps like this anymore because it gives the host an advantage on ping. This hasn’t been done since brood war.
