well shield batteries are little too good i mean when protoss canon rush me into shield/void or DT harrasment than even tanks/cyclones have hard time. Not to mention shield overcharge is another thing… that makes no fun against cheeky protoss players. I wish shield batteries would stay in coop or some sht but not in multiplayer. Too good for its price and in some scenarios even better than canons.
They should just cost 100 gas. That will fix the spamming problem.

Its just so silly that a single 100 minerals defense structure can deflect 2 base push.
Battery Overcharge (and SB in general) makes Protoss defense impenetrable in the early game PvT and is the reason why Terran have to rely on WM drop so much.
slapping 100 gas on the SB will return the building back to its original intention…make it a little less risky for toss to expand…however it made toss impenetrable which was NOT the intention.
I think it requires more nuance than this. I think 1 per pylon outside of Nexus range would be reasonable.

Maybe you should you learn how to play? There is a reason, why protoss got mothership core, which was later exchanged for batteries. The reason for it are for example simple mass lings. Which can be easily defeated by terran with first gelions, or zerg with first banelings. Protoss has to go for t3 units in order to get some splash, without splash with low amount of units you cant stop lings flood. Battery overcharge has a role too. Its role is to stop 1 base pvp play.
move the cannon to forge+core tech and the problem is solved. There’s no respectable protoss player who will even build a forge after core unless they’re opening with a defensive cannon instead of obs.

I do however agree that SB on its own fit Protoss philosophy great. It is the Overcharge that is the problem.
Unfortunatelly decent Protoss players tend to put battery and their units in a such way that this move is rarely possible
I would also love to get mothership core back. I absolutely loved that unit, but we have what we have. If we just remove batteries, zerg will have 100% winrate in zvp. Same thing goes for overcharge. You can’t just remove it, as the reason for its existence is pvp, where a defender (a player who went for 2nd base) has no way to defend from the 1 base player. It results in pvp being a matchup with 1 base and the one who goes for 2nd base lose the game.
Yes, I too would rather have MC back and current SB removed.
Pylon pushes were less pain to deal with then proxy-Tempests let alone proxy-Voids.
I do like idea of Shield Battery however. It just fits Protoss race theme.
I wonder how it can be resolved… If we give Protoss both SB (without overcharge) and MC (and remove Recall from Nexus) than that would be OP… Hm…
That’s what I am talking about. “Let’s remove something from the game and later we will think about how to fix things that we broke” - is not the right way to balance the game. The changes should make impact without braking not related to the problem mechanics. And that’s what we see in the current balance patch with ultras for example.
So if someone wants to remove shield battery, he has to suggest something, what will better solve that role, which the battery currently fulfills.
Shield batteries are fine but Battery Overcharge is broken. If Protoss can’t survive zerg all-ins then nerf Zerg, especially Ravagers which cant be in the enemy base at 2:40 and negate every defender’s advantage. Just move them to Lair tech…

Zerg ALWAYS dominate the map thanks to being able to make 7 drones at a time at the start of the game. 2 Hatcheries=14 drones or 28 lings…Yes this is somehow considered balanced.
auto cast is what killed this game. It should be like Brood War where your units and structures need to be within range of the shield battery to restore shields…and it’s not done automatically…you have to click each individual unit and structure to have its shields recharged. Blizzard knew auto casting would break their game but they did it anyway…probably just to get everyone fired up.

Or it could also be that, when you invest into a defensive building you should have a strong defense ? And it’s almost as tho, you don’t lose anything from going into WM drops. Crazy right ? A unit that costs 75/25 transported by a 100/100 medivac can kill an entire mineral line if you were watching somewhere else for 1second, oh and also it doesn’t trigger any alerts before detonating

Terrans found something that was strong for defense, harass and could be used in their composition in a fight and they implemented it in their builds ?
