I am hopeful that the VR change will make the VR useful and actually be an answer to roach/ravager floods. The other problem is banelings which VR might assist with. But I think an increase to the DPS of sentries is better.
The real reason why banelings are so strong is because ravagers completely up ended Protoss response. The answer to banelings is force fields. But if you compare the ravager to the Sentry, it gets very ridiculous.
Ravager only costs 50 more minerals but has more DPS, much more HP, no light or armored tag, is much faster, it has longer range, its ability has a short cool down and costs no energy and does AOE damage, can morph from a damaged roach for a full heal, in the right hands can easily crush entire armies particularly ones with low mobility… even if you dodge the biles that means you are moving instead of fighting and therefore a huge drain to your dps and positioning ability.
Now when you compare the ravager in a head to head in a fight against an army with Sentries the comparison gets even more ridiculous. The whole purpose of Sentries is to make forcefields and Ravagers can fairly quickly cancel them and can quickly drain every forcefield you have until the sentries are paper weights. Before ravagers, Zerg had to run away once good FF were down but now they just sit there waiting to be let through. Toss needs DPS to kill the masses of units and if your army is 8+ sentries you DONT have that DPS. The only thing that really helps is HT but that is tons and tons of gas. So that wont help in the mid game considering all the gas you need for other things like sentries. Plus the HT are also blown up by banelings like the sentries.
So the answer is buff Sentry DPS. Sentries will still be fragile and a high skill cap unit. But they HAVE to have higher damage. I think increase to 8 will do it. This will have minimal effect on PvT and not much effect on PvZ outside of baenling and zergling interaction. Might help hold against Ling runbys but those are already pretty ridiculous.
To balance this out, get rid of the shield battery overcharge immediately. It has a disporportionate effect on balance at lower levels. At higher levels it is also effecting PvZ and PvT which it was not intended to do. It is unnecessary at best and harmful at worst.
Who cares about PvP? It is a mirror match up and we dont need it to be a marathon match. Blizzard needs to stop trying to make every match up a long macro game.
