Sensor Tower not detector

Just a quick question. Why isn’t this thing a detector? It seems like its a thing that should be.

I mean, its just a bunch of sensors. Why tf cant it detect anything marine wouldnt see?

It would overlap with the scan.

Because it covers such a massively huge area, it would make cloak completely useless against terran, and they already have the most readily available detection in the game.

Thats like saying spore overlaps with overseer…

They also have most unreliable and most expansive detection in the game.

If Sensor towers had detection, the detection radius would be the same as all other forms of building based detection.

So 11 range of detection radius.

Because then every terran would build a sensor turret on 2 base and any form of cloaked unit opening (banshee, DT, widow mine drop, burrowed roaches, …) would be completely useless.

Its more expansive than turret, which does same thing at same tech lvl. Why would anyone build sensor tower instead of turret at 2 base…

So you’re saying that 125/100 is more expensive than 300-400 minerals?

Another troll thread from platys i guess.

Hey, how about making lair a detector with same range as sensor tower. I dont see any problem with that.

125/100 is more expansive than 100/0 last time I checked.

Sensor tower has same vision radius as turret.

Scratch that, it actually has whole 12 vision range. EPIC +1 range. Still less than overseer in static mode.

As a terran, I hate playing against sensor towers and if they detected, would be muc worse since I open with Banshee.

I’d prefer they cost more and had less visibility

Who builds sensor tower in time to stop any banshee play. Its late game stuff as its simply too expansive before that.

Also, unlike tower, this thing wont shoot back, so it would be advantage for you as that player just wasted resources that could be tower and actually defend base.

Also, putting it next to mineral line is in almost every case sub optimal placement for sensor tower.

no one, because sensor towers can’t detect

If they could, you would have detector, but 25/100 more expensive and without ability to shoot back.

Guys, the idea was not for sensor towers to detect in the whole red dot area, only it’s actual vision area. You know, since some of you don’t seem or have 2 brain cells to rub together.

Question - would sensor towers having mana to scan be fair?

No, even a temporary mana-based or even money-based scan gives more chances for T to scan for DTs, lurkers, or roaches. Yes upfront a sensor tower is a tad expensive but it pays for itself immediately when you know what angle an army is coming towards you.

It’s good enough as is - btw real life long-wave radio detection cannot pick-up stealth planes or “invisible objects”, only infrared radio detection can do so. Otherwise your minimap would highlight red spots lol, but that’s just my theorycrafting.

Because that’s not the function of the building. It detects things in the fog of war. Terran has scan, turrets, and raven to detect cloak. Kind of like asking why a shield battery doesn’t detect…because not every building detects.

That’s kinda the same because you can watch the minimap if i.e. someone cloaks the banshee too late and you also have mobile troops.
Don’t call other people dumb if you don’t think 2 steps ahead.

its like a radar dish, sonar. id imagine it sending radar signals that bounce off enemies and back to the tower, revealing the position.
things can be invisible to radar. just think of a stealth bomber.
now your detectors, missile turrets, ravens, id imagine have nightvision/heatvision of some kind, to assist in DETECTING invisible enemies, or anything that would not be picked up on radar.
