I have a lot more trouble playing Terran than I do Protoss and I think the problem is that Protoss can simply select all warp gates with the w button. Is there any way I can bind w to control groups at least?
Donât come on this forum talking about all the quality of life things that protoss has over every race. lets talk abou what the other races dont have like instant creep spread.
4s not a bad idea but hard to get used to. In other games I use 7 8 9 ⌠stargate and factory are ok on 7 and 8 but barracks units spam so quickly having them on 9 hurts me.
I never used that button, and at some point I forgot it was a thing, I was watching a stream and started thinking about how the guy was warping units with no control group. Iâm not sure if that key is considered quality of life or not, getting the gates on a control groups takes 3 clicks and allows you to check the CD of the warpgates. Same with larva hotkey, just hatcheries on the control group and thatâs all you need.
Overall, the race that has the highest amount of qol things is T, but whinning about QoL stuff is useless, its something intended for low league players and have no real impact on veteran players.
I think itâs really silly that a lot of people (especially pros it seems) donât utilize the special button for warp gate. They go out of their way to put all their gates into a control group every time. This is probably due to a long time habit of gates not being converted to warp gates automatically (a change added in late 2018 or early 2019, something like that). At a low level, it may not matter, but pros are investing multiple clicks to go out of their way to do something they can solve in one click. I guess itâs just habit - I personally find this button to be extremely useful.
With that said, you can always change the button for warp gates to a specific control group. However, that might ruin a lot of things as it might cause overlap in hotkeys. Anyway, go into your options, click hotkeys at the bottom, and look around in global at the bottom. You should see the things you want changed. I personally recommend either doing it like the pros (manually putting gates into one control group) or figure out a new button to select all warp gates.
Thereâs no workaround for Terran. You always have to put your production onto control groups manually.
Leave it up to a member of the TCF to try and derail a forum topic every time
Woohoo team production on 4
IMO itâs a huge quality of life deal, especially with gates being automatically converted to warp gates. Like you said, it takes 3 clicks to add gates to control groups. This button lets you do it in one - effortlessly. When pros donât use this button, I see it as an inefficiency they canât get rid of due to long term habits of the past.
Do people actually use the larva hotkey? The hatchery is the same as a command center/nexus and it also serves as the only production structure for Zerg. I guess it is about 3 clicks for base control group vs larva hotkey? But who doesnât put their bases on a control group right?
not to be a jerk but Terran has lot of gimmicks that actually make this race difficult to play. Few examples:
worker being exposed during construction. You need to pull another one to defend it against drone/probe poke. If you lose SCV during CC construction in natural youâre like 20 seconds behind.
addons - I HATE THEM. Addons make terran structures ineffective as long as they are being constructed, plus if you lose them to muta flyby your production is crippled. Also they often make terran units stuck in between them and force construction outside your base, because you have no space
swapping buildings - maybe not a big deal, but some build orders require you to swap buildings from time to time which steals few seconds. Just few seconds in case of terran may be the difference between victory and defeat.
lots of âswitchableâ units - siege tanks , libs must constantly sieged or unsieged for repositioning. If youâre not exceptional at juggling control groups this may be the reason why you suck as terran
Whatâs the point of having GW in a control-group togather with Robo/Stargates?
It would make any sense only in BW when GW did not exist.
If someone is stupid-enough to lump GW/SG/Robos in one CG then they have to use an extra-futile Tab when producing Robo/SG units.
I think CollegeWings nailed the issue when explained it just a rudiment of BW play (when GW units could be queued)âŚ
You can press tab to cycle through. 1 time for robo, 2 for stargate, if you have both. itâs only 1 extra key press, but lets you bind W to something else.
IMO, they should add select [building]/select all [building] commands like exist in AOE2. Itâs really convenient to be able to select buildings without binding them to a number.
It has all of your production on a single hotkey. I literally just said that. So you press 5 or whatever and have your warp gates, your robos and stargates all on one key. Im not going to try and sell you on the idea, its strictly personal preference, but its a reason they could be doing it.
Unlikely, given that you couldnt select more than one building in BW to begin with.
I aleady use 8 for Robo/Stargates with Tab for switching. I donât need extra letters for binding because group all Nexi/Forges/Cyber/Council/RoboBay in a single hotkey for Probe production, Chrono and upgrades even when i am in the battle-field (only Crono requests a return to Base for applying).
But that has to do with the personal style of each of us.
Itâs a matter of personal preferences.
My point is adding hotkeys for building selection without needing to bind the keys yourself every game, leaving more control groups open for units, and allowing for a tighter spread of hotkeys. It just makes it so you never need to actively hotkey buildings. Itâs a nice QoL feature in AoE2.
