Apple today on their New product webcast made some outrageous claims about the performance of their products. Does anyone have any real numbers on the following:
- The number of people who use Mac vs. PC on SC2?
- Can anyone talk about their experiences with Mac with SC2? I have a macbook air and tried to play sc2 on it but the thing go so hot that I put it back in the neat box for storage.
- If you have a version desktop or laptop that plays well, can you list the models?
pc, mac is the exact same thing but worse and cost more.

Firstly, a MBA is not intended to do gaming on. It is intended to do simple stuff on the go. People get it because of its portability.
I game on a 7 YO MBP 15" which was maxed specs at the time of release. It still runs smoothly most of the time. I am sure I can bump the graphics up slightly to medium and it will still be able to handle it. However, I am not particular about graphics when I climb the ladder, so I’d prefer to set everything too low.
If you intend to buy a MBP, you need at least a 13" in order to run SC2 properly (though the recent MBAs have rather decent specs). Know that SC2 is a 10 YO game and you shouldn’t have too many issues generally. An iMac will definitely run SC2 alright.
The key issue is whether Activision will ever port SC2 to ARM processors. Otherwise, you are stuck with Rosetta 2 to run it. Logically, it shouldn’t be smooth and there will be performance issues. However, on the other hand, Apple has a track record of under promising and over delivering, so if it is true, it should work fine.
I wouldn’t be surprised that Activision will phase out Mac support over the years (like how OW is the first ever game from Blizzard that does not support Macs).

As an add-on to the kind of answers I predict whenever the topic of Mac and gaming comes about, I’d just say to ignore naysayers. Most of them haven’t even used a Mac long enough to justify whatever they are trying to claim.
Just let them stay salty.
Same thing, I played SC2 on a mac up until last year, 2012 macbook pro, and then 2017 macbook pro. Playing from gaming windows now. Plays just as smooth in both.
I do recommend you do not go beyond medium settings on a mac though, and I would assume it will run fine in lower settings on a macbook air, depending on the year.
The only complaint I have on the mack is the that the command button is not at the edge where the Fn button for creating control groups. But I am sure you might be able to change that around if it is a big deal for you.
