If i know one thing about starcraft its the fact that players who want to achieve something in starcraft are tending to pick the easy way because thats how you achieve something the fastest. Best example: cheeses. Why do people cheese? Because it takes so much less skill in general. Not needing to know meta, mid or lategame. Not needing to know the builds or the units. Not needing to be able to micro spellcaster.
Clearly ppl thought protoss was the easiest race and you can achieve so much with protoss in no time. Thats why we see so many protoss players in diamond and masters. And more than half of that nonexistant playerbase is just cheesing the sh!t out of other people because its a gimmicky sh!t race.
Zerg does have some OP shennanigans, like Queens being the best defense in the game by far, and Roaches being T2 troops at T1, but nowhere near the broken stuff Terran can pull.
You are asking the wrong question. Rather than asking why zerg is over-represented at their whopping 30% in masters, you ought to be asking: why is zerg under-represented in lower leagues? Why is zerg so hard to play that newbs avoid it like the plague?
Because Zerg has no Marines, the overly efficient, universal counter-all that only Terran gets.
Because Zerg cannot do Widow Drops, which can snipe 15 Workers.
Because Zerg cannot instantly halve a Protoss armyâs HP pool, with just one skill fired 3 times.
Because Zerg cannot bunker up on a hill with Siege Tanks, and make it unapproachable.
Its not about being hard to play in general. I think the concept has been discussed so many times. For entry level yes zerg is the hardest to play because terran and protoss relate better to the basic concept of playing rts. and everyone played some rts at some point of their life. Only because something is harder at first because it seems foreign it doesnt mean it will always be harder or its harder in general.
Because they donât even have enough games under their belt to KNOW if theyâd prefer another, easier race?
You know who else doesnât have that knowledge? Professional players.
It always strikes me as contradictory, how many professional players lack the game knowledge to understand that their race is so difficult. Either that or all seemed to get up together and decide they all wanted to earn less money, less awards, AND all tell the world that their race isnât as difficult as Terran, the undeniably âEZâ race.
