I think Banelings, Disruptors and Widow Mines should be removed from the game. I know that this is controversial so I will follow with some arguments. All of this units have high AoE damage and are based upon EXTREME micro reflexes. Yes, if you are a teenage Korean pro with 500 APM, then this kind of mechanic may be appealing. However if you want to play the game STRATEGICALLY, then this sucks. The main problem with these units is that they are are extremely “twitchy”. You basically have to respond extremely fast or you may lose 50 supply in a SECOND. It’s simply not fun. Think about it. You macro like crazy and in 10 minutes you are maxed. Hell, Reynor can get to 199/200 in 7:59. You DON’T want to lose 50 supply in ONE SECOND. It’s NOT FUN AT ALL. These mechanics are very FRUSTRATING, especially to players of a lover skill level.

Ehm and about maxing out… they can max out on 3 bases with Roaches almost at 6min mark… So nope, Banes are not problem
AoE in a game like this should be designed to SOFTEN units before focus fire. It should not be a f******g SUPERNOVA blast which decimates everything in the area of effect.

Dude, there are MANY ways to handle this. Just give Zerg some kind of other AoE which isn’t a mass suicide Zergling. For ex. some kind of “disease cloud” unit/bio infections which spread among marines, etc. Then you could bring back Medics for a good measure. It’s SO obvious. I don’t understand it. 17 years in the making…

I’m all for removing disruptors and widow mines (swarm hosts removed too my personal thing). But banelings? No. Banelings are nowhere close to the explosiveness of disruptors or widow mines. And no one really does the burrowed baneling strategy. Banelings have been nerfed too. They are fine.

Almost nobody plays mech (except battlemech) because it’s boring and isn’t viable against protoss.

Notice the pattern here. Practically nobody is fond of the units I mentioned. AoE should have a place in this game, but it should be something different. For ex. some kind of long range “artillery” units could be an option for all races. They would deal moderate damage in a large area. Terran could get some kind of “cannon” with shrapnel. Zerg some kind of “infecting spores” shooter and Protoss some kind of change to how psionic storms work: for ex. an upgrade which increases range and area but decreases DPS.

I would sacrifice widow mines and libs to get rid of disruptors. Maybe even sacrifice thors 2. Battlemech is also not viable agaisnt toss. but I like trying to fit a square into a circle.

LOL, no. No way Protoss can manage without Disruptors. For that to be remotely balanced the Terrans should drop WM, Tank and EMP.

A unit that fires only once in 21 seconds and gives people 2 seconds to react makes Disruptor underpowered.
We don’t have the luxury to have 2 seconds of reaction-time to EMP that has the AOE several times bigger than Nova or Tank-shot that ignores terrain and is instant.

If you pay attention to the main army, you have less time to drop left and right. So just make a cost-benefit calculation.
