its such a bad as unit and sadly you will in most match ups only build 1
heres a list of everything they are good for
1)scouting
2)making me want to bang my head on the desk in tvt(reaper micro fights, does anyone actually enjoy early game tvt?)
the reaper deserves so much more than this. it has a freaking jet pack.
obviously zerg and prottoss players will be salty about buffing terran so maybe they should also buff other useless units like adepts…
here are some of my ideas(obviously none of these will ever go through)
upgrade that allows the charge to have a larger radius and more damage
upgrade that brings the reapers old anti-structure attack back(they used to do large damage vs structures)
upgrade that allows the reapers to fly(much like the locusts but faster)
do you guys have any ideas?

I dont think that bringing back higher damage to KD8 charge is a good idea. They nerfed it because it was too strong early on and we don’t need the reaper to be strong early on. As for its radius, I wouldnt mind if they increase it a bit but I dont think it would make much a difference.
Damage to structure is something strong early on and I dont see it being very useful after the early stage of the game (we didnt see much use of it out of cheese in WOL).
Flying reaper could see some use early on but from the point marine medivac come into play, they just surpass the reaper as an efficient harassment tool.
What the reaper needs is some legs to go into the midgame and fill a gap in the terran arsenal. I made a post not long ago about the natural upgrades a reaper could benefit from given its actual state in the game.
- Nitro pack : being able to out run fast lings
- Some creep clearing ability ( I proposed in another thread a temporary detection ability for burrowed units)
- Some scouting ability ( perhaps something similar to broodwar parasite)
- Something similar to contaminate which can slow down upgrades.

I like the idea of an upgrade in the mid game that makes reapers fly temporarily (say for 30 seconds) and that also let’s them do increased damage vs buildings (ie a rocket launcher they could shoot from air or from ground) . I could see reapers used for harass and sniping critical buildings which could be interesting.
well i imagine it would be on the fusion core or engie bay or something, i would rather reaper was viable in the late game.
The reaper is way to cool to be as it is now. I mean, its a dual wielding jetpack guy, who calls himself the grim reaper. It has ONE purpose, and that is to scout for the first 3, MAYBE 4 minutes, and hopefully whack two workers in the process. Also yes, the reaper vs reaper is really boring. Always the same. Both reapers vlast the mine, both reapers flee when red hp, and then come back with a hellion or two, and repeat. By the time this is over, tanks are already in both bases, so it rarely even matters who has won the micro battle…
Would love to see some midgame upgrades for this unit. Because right now its just a ground banshee without cloak, another unit with no other role than harass/scout.
Maybe if the reaper got a switch with the armory like hellion/hellbat ? Like a switch to make him bulky and actually usefull beyond the first 200 seconds of the game?

Yep you can deny reaper scout as Protoss, using gateway block, which works on almost every map. Yet 1 adept can kill reaper and deny scouting completely. It doesn’t even do anything…
In TvZ you can block third, but than after ling speed hits, reaper dies. And you will have to still send out 2 hellions to scout for roach all in… Or if you get lucky with reaper, but it can be denied. Even 2 hellions don’t scout it reliably, as you can kite them with 2 queens and chase with 6 lings. And also you can transfer drones to third to make it look like macro and than send around ravagers… Also sending out 2 hellions is gambling as some Zerg sneak out their lings… I am seeing people die to roach/ravager all in even on top level. For example Serral surprised TY.
The reaper is too ingrained in terran openings, if you repurpose it away from scouting there needs to be another unit or mechanic to furfill its role, so you would really just be replacing the current reaper with a new unit serving the same purpose most likely.
As current reaper there is no reason not to keep it for purely scouting and ocasional early game fighting/allin since terran has no other great scouting tools untill starport or first hellion if your lucky to get in.
