Random Mutation Idea: Zombie Apocalypse

Hi everyone! So me and a friend were playing around with the Custom Mutation option on the Dead of Night map, and we found a combination that’s pretty fun but also somewhat difficult if you don’t respect it. It’s a 4-mutator option so it’s a little unorthodox, and I would like to suggest it as a possible Halloween special:

  • Walking Infested
  • Outbreak
  • Alien Incubation
  • Just Die!

It doesn’t seem like much, given Walking Infested and even Outbreak are pretty easy mutators, but the number of infested on the map reach insane levels, and you get a pretty nasty surprise at the end of the first night! The Outbreak was an extra one that means you have to make sure you keep your defences up during the daytime, while still appealing to the whole “zombie apocalypse” thing - it also adds Infested Medics to the mix during the night waves.

If I had to remove one to make it the standard 3, then it’s a toss-up between “Just Die!” and “Outbreak”.

Even if it’s rejected, I would like to invite people to try that combination on Dead of Night. The undead don’t stay down!

sounds like the real mutation here is the inevitable lag

Not too different.

I am not much of a numbers guy, but I will say that the more ways to have a zombie apocalypse the better. Zombies are people too, they’re just a bit decayed, and they shouldn’t have to decompose in a landfill while other types of monster strut around like they own the place.

We must have more zombies. Something must be done. I cannot stress that enough. Zombie Apocalypse 2019!!!

Throw in Black Plague in as well since in zombie movies/games, they pass on a disease.

I would do exactly the same as this week’s mutation. HH + Swann and beat it before N3 to save myself from the lag and the inevitable harder nights/days. Mutations are just a one-off for me as always (this combo would hold no difference).

I tend not to like Black Death that much because it really impacts the hero-based commanders, and I personally quite like Tychus on this custom mutation, although you need to make sure you don’t leave your base undefended in the daytime.

It’s not meant to be particularly hard, but rather fun and a nice theme. Swann is a good choice, but watch out for Hunterlings and Spotters, since they need to be killed twice and they spawn Broodlings and Infested in your base.

It’s sad though that lag always has to be a killer (admittedly, I’ve learnt in Versus mode that if the game starts to lag a bit, it probably means the opponent has gone for mass Zerglings).
