Question about Mengsk's co op hero

Alright, i highly doubt blizzard will listen, respond or help… but i’m having issues with Mengsk.

His units except the flame trooper have 45 life… in 1 or 2 hits, you lose your unit

My problem is… for the past 3 days… i keep losing, and i can’t get enough units for his army to actually help my ally in co op?

I’m not a professional gamer, but his units are either to low on health, or to expensive I just can’t seem to level him up… and I’m not upset or hating on anyone, but why won’t blizzard make any balances to co op? They keep saying they did… but I mean i just don’t get it… I wish someone would take these forum issues seriously, and get back to me… but nobody will… I’m gonna have to uninstall the game, cuz i can’t seem to level Mengsk… and i don’t see how that’s even fair to a gamer… losing game player, cuz one of their commanders isn’t balanced in a way, that you everyone, not just “professional players can play”

Even if i play Normal, or Casual, it’s gonna take 5 years to get him leveled… I mean… I just dunno what to do… I wish blizzard’s developmental team on co op would explain this?

I follow the game mechanics perfectly, I upgrade, I make healing units, but i just can’t seem to do anything to help my ally so i end up losing the match… i’m not a professional… i wish blizzard would take me seriously… =/

Calm down mate, everything will be fine. I understand your frustrations, low level Mengsk isn’t fun to level up.

If you are in low level you will have a really hard time.

The best you can do is make Aegis and Intercessors to protect your Troopers and build on your death ball.

Mengsk have pretty useful calldowns (which can be charged faster with Emperor’s witness (starting from level 5)).

They can provide much more insight with Mengsk. Good luck!

He is hard to level up but he is extremely powerful nonetheless. You have to be patient and persevere to level him up. You won’t regret it!

I leveled him up once already, but i’m trying to prestige him, and I just keep having Negative gameplay, i’m level 9, and i just can’t seem to keep my army, i’m not a 10 or 15 yr old kid, who has his whole life ahead of him… So i can’t really say i’m new to the series…

I just dunno i’m just not having a good time with Mengsk… 3x the leveling and if i can’t even make a good army to fight, i mean it’s very frustrating, and very upsetting, no other commander is this bad, i played all the other commanders just fine… I dunno i refuse to ask for a carry, so i guess i’m just gonna miss out on his Prestiges… i don’t want to… but i dunno i mean… i think it’s a little ridiculous to upgrade a trooper for 160 minerals… when his life is 45… so i mean… I guess i can try his aegis guard but it’s gonna take awhile to get any units… i’ll try doing that i guess… although my ally may be soloing for awhile, cuz i can’t "instantly make an aegis guard army… but i’ll try to figure something out i guess…

I think I can weight in here 'coz I had huge trouble with Mengsk not so long ago and then was able to make him work much better.

Now I avoid pushing in a base without units to tank (zergs max call down), I have 4 CCs with the orbital send so units arrive fast and enough of them.

Several missions are best done just with mass Earthsplitter (All those with static ground objective, Rifts of Korhal, Void Trashing, Scyte of Amon). Even just when there are heavy ground comp with plenty of AOE (Tanks or reavers collossi) if some Earthsplitters can be used that’s nice.

Apart from that the usual advises to get as many calldowns as possible (Imperial witness on each mineral line + army with the upgrade from the core).

Also bunkers can be constructed anywhere for defenses (can reduce the losses a lot as well).

Also in case you really just want to up him you can also just farm Rift of Koral (be careful to have a bunker very early to defend first wave) and then EarthSplitters at the left can handle both extreme left objectives and all those from the main base top.

The Mengsk grind, when you don’t have access to P2, is pretty rough. This is coming from a Mengsk main, too.
If you’re P1, then just grind Oblivion Express or Rifts to Korhal and use Earthsplitters to take care of as many things as possible. Don’t forget to use them to help your ally, and make good use of your top bar.

Do you buy new underwear every day, so you can throw out the dirty ones after you take a dump too? Being a big boi and all?

Or perhaps it’s reasonable to wash them and reuse like most people?

Nobody has 10k+ mineral to dump into for 100 troopers, then rinse and repeat on every engagement. The point is to have a well-balanced composition of troopers, royal guards, and intercessors. The ones that die drops their purchased weapon (underwear), so it gets picked-up again to be re-used.

It really just sounds like you grinded out Mengsk without really learning how to play him, which I’m sure is frustrating and understandably so. That is all the more reason to seek out guides, youtube videos, replays, etc. So you can learn where you’re doing it wrong.

Everyone’s comments here are taking you seriously. It is up to you to take the feedback more seriously and follow through to learn.

Void Thrashing is pretty good too. Earthsplitter on a Small map? Easy and fast win (mind your defences though).

ugh

Couple of these responses don’t even make sense, i’m actually have a co op commander problem, and some guy brings up Underwear, I don’t get it… i never even mentioned it in my original post…

Makes me wonder why i try to get ahold of blizzard this way… they won’t take my phone calls, won’t reply to me on twitter… I guess… people in the gaming community don’t really matter.

Seems nobody else seems to let that bother them… It’s like you have a real problem irl… and people ignore you… you would probably feel upset too…

I’m just saying… i know they have 50,000 games they’re working on. but to ignore a game community, cuz you’re not as good a gamer as the developers are, shouldn’t really be a good thing to be proud of…

We all come from different walks of life, we all have strugglers, problems, but these developers they don’t wanna listen… only time they take your side, is if you give them money… I guess i need to find another game to play, that doesn’t affect me this badly…

I wasn’t asking for an unban, i wasn’t asking for money, or mods… I just want actual Developers to try to understand the problems we face… but from what i’ve seen it’s too much to ask for them to listen to us…

I appreciate the advice you fellow gamers give, i do, but none of the actual developers wanna listen to us… that’s what kinda bothers me… if you can’t get ahold of them… how can they fix the game?

Anyways i’ll stop ranting, and focus on other stuff i guess… ._.

I dunno what Fear’s trying to accomplish by bashing other players, i just ignored his comments… can’t really be serious… then i dunno can’t help the guy.

Since you didn’t mention Imperial Support I’m going to assume you’re having the same issue most players do first learning Mengsk myself included. You need to support your Troops with your Calldowns, and you get those MUCH faster with Imperial Observers increasing your support level.

So here’s what you do. Rush up to a Starport as fast as you can and build two Imperial Observers, put both of them over your Mineral line where your workers are working. One at each base. Try to keep a third one deployed near your army since they are your detectors also.

Do that and your calldowns will be available a lot more frequently. This helps to soften up objectives or provide fast reinforcements of troopers with the Bunker Calldown.

Also don’t forget to make Imperial Dropships too and upgrade them. They’ll heal your troopers.

Also don’t forget to support your troops with Royal Guard units, if you can’t multitask and and micro the Siege Tanks or Ghosts (his two best ones) then use whatever spare gas you have on Battlecruisers or Marauders.

Mengsk is a harder CO to play. I love him for just that reason. If you learn how to use his Imperial support system better you’ll find you’ll have more success with him.

Mengsk is hard to play because he’s got many styles, and if you don’t go seriously on one and casually mix things or not do things to the end of a style, you fail.
You should look at Mengsk possible strategies (somebody gave a link earlier), and maybe use the “All Stars” mod on ordinary maps (may be too easy and different to give a good idea, but also much less pressure of loosing) or Maguro Maps (look for MM) to test things before going back to coop.
And remember that it’s not necessarily just you that is doing something wrong (recently I’ve been playing Casual in Europe, and it definitely doesn’t feel Casual with some people, especially if they force a Hard mode on you without even having the ability to play Casual in the first place)

Upload a replay and we will help you with your build.

I just suck horribly at playing him, i need to find a better strategy, i might try youtube, or check other replays heh…

Haven’t completely given up though…

Don’t be discouraged. Playing Mengsk actually requires a bit of actual Starcraft skill unlike someone like Tychus or Zeratul. Getting better at playing him will make you better at the game in general.

Upload a replay, most likely you are making some simple mistakes that we can point out. If you stop doing those - you will be clearing brutal easily.

I just got out of 2 games, and my base got overrun by the enemy… on hard difficutly…

I may not be a professional sc 2 gamer… but ugh… this game is to toxic for me…

I gave up trying to get ahold of blizzard… they won’t listen to me… So i’m just gonna go find another game to play…

And he reason i gave up on this game… Mengsk… his units are over priced, his other units have no health, I’m really confused… I dunno how anyone is able to level with him…

I feel like i’m the only one having problems with this guy… everyone else says he’s great…

Losing all my units, and having my base over run, cuz i don’t make units due to vespane cost… it gets to me… and i’m just tired of losing… so i’m gonna focus on real life crap, and stop playing this game… because nobody… should feel this negative, after losing a game or 2… it’s very sad that the developers call us gamers the troll, especially when we don’t work for blizzard, or play like they play… So i’m done i’ll find other stuff to keep me occupied…

With that attitude you’ll never get better.

I just won a game on Brutal+ and I played awful because I haven’t played in a week and yet I still was real close to my ally in kills and I did more damage to the shuttles than he did. The problem isn’t with the CO, it’s just you haven’t learned how to play him. Focus on improving.

You can add me, we’ll play some games (me as Mengsk, mind you Im prestiging him rn) then you can watch the replays

You need to focus on what units you want for the attack wave, if you got lv 5+ you can rush Witness for mandate generation.

Try to watch Mengsk videos, start with the ESO cheese strategy but see how army-style Mengsk works as well.

Then just pick the expensive unit that does very well against the attack wave, if you see mass ground units then siege tanks/Aigis guards will do great, but if it’s something like sky terran, blackhammers when sieged up and rocket troopers is what you want.

With this attitude you won’t be able to win, looking at your comments you will get your hands off the keyboard once the attack wave eats half of your army even with 1k+ vespene on the bank, or lose the Royal guard you just made.

If you feel like you’re going to lose, tone down the difficulty to normal just to try things out, no shame in learning because he’s not a easy commander, watch videos on Mengsk to get an idea.

The reason why we say he’s so good is that there are many ways to play, you’re not stuck in 1 way to win Brutal map, so you just need to see where it works best on you.

Really no need for that.
