PSA: A good number of TL Co-Op Guides are way out of date!

After much complaining from myself, and many patches since then, I went back to take a look at the TeamLiquid Co-Op guides to re-read them and check to see if any have been updated to the current (or near current) state of the game.

They haven’t.

Current out of date guides:

  • Artanis
  • Alarak
  • Swann
  • Karax
  • Stukov, kind of. (Mostly the Diamondback changes)
  • Abathur, kind of. (Mostly the Ravager changes)
  • Fenix
  • Dehaka
  • Tychus
  • Zeratul
  • There currently are no TL guides for Stettman and Mengsk.

Maybe some day someone will let another member of the community update these to properly reflect how the commanders can/should play in the modern game patch.

Swann’s is really bad since his wraiths are SUPER good now but the guide writes them off so bad

Yes. The guides are extremely out of date, and neither the OPs, nor moderators of those forums wish to allow anyone to update them, thus making them VERY lackluster, and actually quite misleading in some cases.

This is why you go to Starcraft2coop dot com, your #1 source of Starcraft 2 co-op information.

Seems to be a good enough site. It’s format isn’t all that great, though.

Is that the site that called Rattlesnake’s ultimate gear bad?

Use starcraft2coop website

They say it’s not worth the cost.

Expecting the Ravager changes to be implemented in the guide not even a week after the patch? Doesn’t matter much in the abby meta anyways.

There’s a full list of all of the outdated guides. The Artanis guide still has his old Masteries on it, ffs. If that doesn’t scream about how badly out of date these are, I don’t know what will.

Have to bounce between starcraft2coop and Starcraft.fandom (wiki) for appropriate info, TL hasn’t been relevant in ages.

Yeah, I just know that TL was the go-to place for SC2, and I used their guides for some time just to get a handle on a fresh commander. People are still recommending others to look at TL guides when they’re ridiculously out of date, though…

I used to look at the TL guides quite a bit as another source of “fun reading”. But yeah, as the years passed, they have been showing their age. I take it the site is still active, but mostly forum stuff, and little much of else? I was impressed that starcraft2coop dot com got updated so swiftly considering it’s a site not open to editing by the public. StarCraft Wikia site did have the community update it ASAP as well.

Warp Charge Cooldown Reduction (+2% - 60%)
What, is, this? It’s cheaper to warp in units?

Yeah, it lists “Warp Charge Cooldown Reduction” mastery, which was removed in patch 4.2.4, released in April 2018. Since he was the second CO I leveled up (last Christmas), I realised early enough that the TL guides were too outdated. https://news.blizzard.com/en-us/starcraft2/21700683/starcraft-ii-4-2-4-patch-notes

Especially things that affect various synergies (CO’s and powersets) and change completely when just one is removed/buffed/nerfed. So even if it’s just one thing, if it’s important enough, it’s everything for that CO.

One major thing missing/wrong in their guides is the enemy compositions: map-specific strategies don’t account for any of the newer enemy comps. These primarily dictate your build for most COs, rather than the map.

Was only talking about the Abby guide. It’s clear the others haven’t been touched for a while since no one cares enough about those commanders to rewrite the guides. Abby and Raynor will be more or less kept updated as long as I’m active.

That being said, starcraft2coop site is a better resource for beginners. The TL Raynor and Abby guides were written for those more interested in optimizing their play.

Thanks for keeping them updated! Any idea how to get the others updated?

And yet, I offered to help update Alarak’s guide, and each time you said “only the OP and speedrunners are allowed to update these!”

You didn’t even write those two guides, yet you get to keep them updated? Like that is fair lol.

Maybe some day someone will understand that if you need a guide to have fun in co-op then you’re doing it wrong.

I looked at the top, it says Text by TL net ESPORTS. Comes off as written by them.

This is to help others learn. Not everyone can just pick up a commander and go “Oh, you just do this and win.”
