Yes absolutely. The money drying up particularly from the region lock really choked out the KR scene leaving just a few top players of each race. Like If you took the top four Koreans of each race (or even top 3) you would have like 90+% of the GSL winners. The top 12 players in GSL are going to win stuff and the other 12 that make it to the Ro24 are usually cannon fodder.
Between getting monetarily choked out and the military service tons of great players are gone forever. Though we are getting a few back from the military.
You’re on the verge of a great realization. The PPP and their obsession with Serral is what has killed the game. They are afraid of matching against him every time they queue. That’s why they’ve screamed for the game to be designed around him. It’s made it unplayable for 99.9% of players. The game isn’t even playable for Grandmasters aka the top 0.2% of players (LOL).
It’s not terran dominating Grandmaster and winning the majority of tournaments. It’s definitely Protoss. The mythical TCF was part of their plan to gain design favor. They constantly cried about the “TCF” to distract from what they were doing.
It has gotten much much better though. Zerg got weaker and Terran looks much more competitive this year. I think Protoss is showing signs of becoming competitive vs Zerg nowadays but I think PvZ still needs 1 more balance update to restore Protoss into being on even footing with Zerg and trust me if Protoss is competitive vs Zerg we won’t be seeing Z win 70% of tourneys anymore since they have to worry 2 races rather than 1. But with blizzard pulling the plug for sc2 i don’t see a Protoss winning a b07 finals vs Zerg anytime soon.
Stopped playing Terran nearly a year ago. Picked up Protoss after 10 years of Terran. Play a simple macro style play where I “A” click my protoss deathball to the other side of the map and don’t bother paying attention to it while I focus on Macro and building another 200/200 army to send across the map again.
I’ve ranked up to the same league I was in with Terran for 10 years.
Because Zerg winning 70% of the tournaments for the last 3 years, Protoss being 45% of the GM ladder, and Terran being heavily disfavored in both TVZ and TVP for a period of multiple years all don’t matter in the face of Velitey really feeling like he deserves his wins.
Whats kind of funny in this decade spanning debate is that zerg and protoss players think that there’s something inherent in a player that would arbitrarily choose Terran as the race they wanted to play before they knew anything about the game, and that for some reason those are the only players that ever complain about how the matchups feel unfair. As if only someone who complains and would imagine it all up in their heads have all magically picked Terran as their race. It couldn’t possible be that for 10 years Terran players may have been complaining for a valid reason all this time, it’s just a group of people who can’t figure out how to play the game properly.
That was true a couple of years ago but Protoss have taken over as the whiniest race.
I could honestly stand Terran whine more because you could tell the whiners knew they were being trolls. Protoss whiners today think they have actually have an argument and it’s so much more annoying to see. Especially with GM almost 50% Protoss.
The big picture is that protoss vs terran is what ruined the game. That matchup is literally a nightmare and why I changed from terran to random. I literally could not take that matchup anymore. It’s the worst of the worst.
Zerg dominating 2019 also was not helpful…but nothing is worse than protoss vs terran.
