Brand new player here. Just started. Not even placed yet, just unlocked ranked.
Biggest issue so far is that everybody who playes SC2 at this point is VERY experienced.
Watched PIG’s series (it’s great) but even he noticed there are no Bronze level players (i.e. people like me). All the casuals left, and I guess I will now experience something like an amateur boxer going against Mike Tyson in his prime.
It is both intimidating and discouraging. It is easy to say “you’re learning, it’s OK to lose” - but loss after loss after loss is discouraging.
This is not just an SC2 problem - it is an RTS problem, hence why the genre is dying.

Let me get this straight, you want wins handed on a plate, in RANKED, against randoms.
“Let me get this straight, you want wins handed on a plate, in RANKED, against randoms.”
Not what I wrote at all.
Maybe English is not your first language?
I’m summarising your whine post.
What else could it possibly be?
Everyone knows that ladder is competitive.
If you want to enjoy winning, maybe join a discord group and play customs.
There is a lack of beginners / beginning players in this game.
So a brand new player like me is right now playing 2200 MMR players (just looked it up, silver-gold level). This is my 5th game ranked.
I guarantee you, a lot of people try this game, get obliterated in their first 5-10 games, and give up because it is literally like starting in a martial art first week and being put against a grand master black belt.
Hope it is easier to understand now.

Well sorry, I understand your frustration, but it is not worth posting about it, because ‘ladder’ is akin to entering a tournament.
I got the same experience in Unranked.

Hidden MMR exists, if you lose (which wouldn’t demoralise any serious player) it will find lesser opponents for you to vs.
Hahahaha, just got a win, because a guy LET ME win.
A pity win.
I don’t think it is worth the struggle and the mental hit to play this game.

You should not play ranked before you are ready for it.
Yes, there are almost no bronze players, but there are actually quite a few silver players, so if you start with the campaigns, then practice vs AI. You should also have a chance on the ladder. I’m in the silver league myself and win about half of my matches and I’m not particularly good, I know how to macro, setup hotkeys and controlsgroups but it’s a requirement to be able to play the game at a decent level. I also micro a little bit but most to defend my bases and probes. it’s about if you can make a good timing attack then you have a good chance to get ahead or win the game. Keep watching pig’s series it will help you so much and also watch Vibe b2gm he can teach you how to macro. Macro is the key to success in SC2. But you should do defensive micro too. Good Luck and have fun

I think for beginners it is frustrating because there are not many beginners. And as you say, you have a high losing streak at the beginning. +the people who smurf.
Like Yggdrasil has given a few tips.
i would say to this: find an “all round” opening for the first 5min, ideas for mid/late game plans. eventually i would say play 3v3 the gameflow is different but you play.

There are plenty of lower ranked players in this game. the problem here is you are jumping right into ladder expecting to win even tho you still havent learned to crawl. Play through the campain a few time on a different difficulty each time before you go jumping on ladder. gotta learn to crawl before you can run. I would say go play teams to learn, but frankly i dont want to see anymore of you noobs ruining the team games like you all do. I know most people who are playing teams right now are sick of carrying noobs. Please stay off of teams till you understand how to play the game. Playing against the ai is another great way to get better. If you can beat the ai on hardest setting the majority of your matchs than your ready for ladder.

Great advice. Carry on.
We know but nothing will change at every step you have guys that scream “me clicking faster is skill” we even had 1 idiot writing something like driving bikes maybe in beginning you would like extra wheels but later on when you learn to drive and so on
and here ve are best game EWA made that no one plays
Alternate >> I think we agree. I have never understood why sc2 is made in such a way that you have to click like crazy. Pressing keys has less to do with strategy and more to do with mechanics.
almost every single game ever made is clicking buttons like crazy. maybe you shouldnt play video games.
Vuyo>> Pratice and you will be better. SC2 is like other things in life, a free win is rare. I can add that yes, it is frustrating that as a newcomer you experience losing a lot of matches, but the vast majority of us have experienced that. Don’t let it get you down. Practice and learn from your losses. Remember to watch your replays especially the matches you lose.
