Prestige is neat, but there's no way I'm grinding for them

Better would be to give Prestiged commanders access to Mastery even at level 1-14

<Insert “Why not both?” meme>

:stuck_out_tongue:

That way players with not yet maxed out Mastery would be able to prestige commanders, access their Mastery while prestiging them, and even level up said Mastery while prestiging them.

This is a good idea :+1:

In my opinion it’s not so much the amount of exp or grinding that is the problem - rather its losing all of the tools you are so used to having. Disrupting your playstyle, taking away vital units or upgrades and overall playing a less enjoyable version of the commander in hopes of unlocking a more fun version later on.

Some things that may help are:

  1. Prestige no longer lowers your level. You stay at Lv15 and grind out 1-1.5m exp to unlock the Prestige point.

  2. Allow us to choose and unlock the Prestige points in any order.

  3. Keep each Prestige level separate (can be combined with the above). ie. While equipped with Kerrigan’s Malevolent Matriarch you are reduced to level 1. If you switch back to her default you revert to level 15. This has the upside of letting us try out a Prestige without having to re-level to 15 if we wish to use the commander for other purposes. And it has the (imo rather significant) downside of not allowing us to use a different prestige while leveling (and some are quite bad at lower levels) however I think this could be somewhat remedied with the below.

  4. Prestige unlocks certain talents earlier than usual (specifically ones to enable the prestige effect from Lv1). For example:

Raynor gets:
a) Nothing
b) Armory upgrade Cache (Afterburners)
c) BCs at Lv1

Kerrigan gets:
a) Malignant creep at Lv1
b) Fury at Lv1
c) Nothing

Vorazun gets:
a) Emergency Recall
b) Twilight Council Cache + Dark Archons
c) Time Stop

etc.

  1. As suggested a few posts above by KrikkitOne, let us use Masteries at levels 1-14.

IMo this could be a fun idea, maybe something tiered like, getting access to 3 mastery points at every level, so like at level 1 you could have 3 mastery points, and at level 10 you could use 30, at 15 you could get that big boost and get all 90, etc. just to add in some fun in?

And yeah i get if they want grinding but even if it’s cosmetic i still wish prestieging and leveling commanders 1-15 still got ascension points even if just for fun. As much as i love the idea i just got done prestieging my tychus and idk if i even want to bother getting the just for fun ones or bothering with kerrigan’s or anything even just past Unlimited artifact zeratul and maybe Teleporting artanis and maybe a 100% hp bio raynor later.

I think it is fair to get all accumulated mastery points since talent 1. Players should choose whether to invest all of points for easier level up or none at all for extra challenge.
The Devs making the prestige to reset all the talents is hard enough.

So, to be clear…
You’re already m90+ with all COs.

You start with Raynor P1. You get to use P1 from lv1 to lv15. When you hit lv15, you get to use the full P1, with the full allocation of 90 mastery pts?

Rinse and repeat twice more for Raynor’s P2, and P3?

.

So the total 56,430,000 XP to do that 18 COs x 3 times each
That’s 282.15 Ascension levels. Or reach m90 3 times with 1 million XP left over.

Since excess XP is wasted in the “blue zone”, let’s say the average waste is 20K. So we’re talking 58,050,000 XP.
290 Ascension levels.

.

First time I tried and crunched the numbers for myself. I’m happy and proud to have gotten all 18 COs to Master, and gone beyond m90. I’ll try Prestige for sure, but I can honestly only see myself doing 6 to 18 of these Prestiges. And also be selective about them given the requirement to do them in order.

My biggest gripe is the fact you cant choose which to unlock.
I would be interested in Kerrigans P3 unlock, but despite her being one of my top 3 COs, I just dont know If I have the will to play 1-15 3x times…, just to unlock 1 play style I would like to try.

And who thought up that no-omega worm talent for Kerri??
Taking away her worms is almost on a level with taking away Kerri herself. Esp. now that worms are also detectors. Would need to completely change how I play.

Likewise for Nova, I like the P3 talent, but dont want to go through that much grinding just to try it.

And for COs I dont particularly like, such as Karax or Stetmann, not a chance I want to re-do 1-15 even once. Let alone 3x times.

I hope Blizzard listen and adjust this system. I think some very good suggestions have already been made.
My favorite is to only need to re-do 1-15 once per CO, and during that leveling let you use Mastery points. (I know some wont apply at lower levels)

I also like the idea of being able to choose what you unlock, that could make things interesting.

Still I think the core of the issue as has been pointed out is that you have to give up so much, adjust your playstyle (not for the better) just to get a look at 3 different play options. (None of which you can really decide if they are for you till you hit 15 again and get your mastery back. )

Im just annoyed with how easy this damn game is on brutal given how strong the prestiges are. I don’t mind re-leveling but the lack of any meaningful challenge makes it feel like a complete and utter grind.

I’ve started re-leveling Karax, it is pretty good despite all these complaints about playing on brutal at low levels.

Another idea could have been to buy the prestige levels with your current ascension level. If I am on ascension level 400 and buy three full prestige talents of a commander (45 levels) then I could pay with ascension and be on 355.

Some of these prestige things are good, but why would I like to remove Zagara? Thats a huge "nerf " imo . Thats just one example. Unlimited ultimates is interessting tho, but removing them…no thx

“I’m not having fun, therefore nobody else is having fun either.”

Well, to be slightly more accurate, “I’m unhappy, therefore nobody else is allowed to be happy either”.

Could you imagine wasting energy whining about terrible the grind is, instead of putting that energy towards figuring out the best way to grind according to your style, and then… you know… actually doing it?

No you don’t have to accept it, that’s why the feedback forum exists.

No, the lemonade simply “is”. How you choose to perceive it is… well, your perception. Perfect? Terrible? Pick whatever. Once you make up your mind, then you can decide to drink or not drink.

I saw a wise Korean who suggested a great metaphor. We are Sisyphus now.

No one said like that. We said, “We, customers, are unhappy, so make us happy you lazy developers.” If you enjoy grinding, then continue to enjoy it. No one cares about you.

If no one have whined about how terrible Kharax is, then how could we get Kharax buff? What is a purpose of a forum?

Someone will bring the lemonade to the shop and complain about disgraceful
status of it. Someone will drink it and say “Wow, it is fantastic even though it has some protein”. Someone will drink it and regret.

Lol, what… that metaphor was so obscure :joy:

Part of me is for very thankful but part of me wishes we didn’t have warchest / holiday XP right now.

Instead trying to see how the prestige plays at mastery levels I feel the need to make the most of the boost that won’t be around forever, and move onto to the next prestige/ next commander.

I guess there will be time for all that eventually. But right now it feels like a waste to use bonus XP on ascension levels.
