Since patch 5.0 co-op has improved vastly in quantity and a decent amount in quality. The new mutator is neat and interactive, the Prestige’s have made for much more diverse play, and the buffs/nerfs have been appropriate.
However, the fact that the prestige’s are still gated behind each other is still very bad. Its akin to having to buy a commander you don’t want in order to also buy the one you do want. In this instance it’s time instead of money.
If the devs would make this change I would see the Prestige system as a true success. But for now it remains a black eye on this otherwise good addition to co-op.
I kinda agree. While on the subject, some prestiges are flat downgrades from vanilla due to critical upgrades needing to be unlocked. When you try a new prestige then obviously you wanna have fun with it from 1-15. I would like to see both these issues adressed someday.
From what i can say is that the good thing about it is that you learn to value prestiges more if you played them.
Like mengsk p2 was completely uninteresting for me in the first pace and ive leveled to p3 because of human-baneling-explosions. Now its actually my favorite of the three prestiges of mengsk. Im pretty sure i wouldnt even consider leveling it if i wasnt forced to.
like, i can understand you guys too. If youre not that hard into coop, a p3 seems like a really huge investment…
I may be more okay with it now because im almost done with all prestiges
Nobody says you shouldn’t try to value all prestiges. They just wanna try them in their preferred order. Forcing someone to try something is never a good idea, nor is it to force someone to waste time getting to something for no gain when they could have started with it.
prestiges is kind of variable. some function perfectly from level 1(templar aparent, akhundelar) while others require higher levels to use. maybe they should change it a bit so that each prestige resets the commander to the level where it is useful, rather than always resetting to level 1.
Or, as has been suggested, just unlock the dependant skill right away.
Yeah… I would’ve loved to try Dehaka’s P3 first, but instead, I have to re-max him 3 more times just to get that prestige XD. I’m not even remotely interested in P2, but P1 turned out to be pretty good.
2 Things that need to be changed the most about Prestiges
- Let us choose (no gates, the OP)
- All Prestiges should have most [not necessarily all] of their bonuses active from Level 1 (ie P2 Raynor should make Afterburners researchable on level 1, P1 Kerrigan should have Malignant Creep on level 1, etc. But P3 Raynor doesn’t need Dusk wings and BCs on level 1, since he still gets Hyperion, Banshees, Vikings)
It would also be good if Mastery was available for Relevelers, since Prestiges seem to be balanced around Mastery, and Releveling with Mastery would be a unique experience.
Another one of these. I think they’d have changed it to “free choice” if they wanted to in any number of the 7 ish weeks it’s been out.
Not all prestige are for everyone, as people all have different tastes and styles. The main focus should be honing in on what makes each prestige unique and fun for that style/idea/fantasy. Gating it isn’t an issue after that.
Removing this barrier right now will only serve to drive away any interest (be it forced or not, however you wish to see it) from the less popular prestiges. In the end, even if it was “fixed” or “balanced”, nobody would want to try it. Or in a different way of putting it, if the people who aren’t willing to try it now because it’s “gated”, then they sure as heck won’t want to months later when it is fixed, especially when they’ve played the prestige they liked (in the first place) for months at that point.
This just comes down to, if you are willing, then you are willing to enjoy prestige and coop. If you are not, then you really aren’t. No amount of catering towards one population over another is going to fix that. And I think the devs know this very well, which is incidentally why weeks have gone by and they didn’t change it still.
This this this this this. I’m trying to prestige Fenix right now and his P2 doesn’t turn on until level goddang 15.
So people should be able to Relevel for the Prestiges they want. And making some long unpleasant slogs (P3s with no benefit till level 15) while others are available immediately (P1s that are available from level 1)
Just because they haven’t changed it in a couple months doesn’t mean they won’t… or shouldn’t. (there’s plenty of things that took a much longer time to change)
If they are worried about the less popular prestiges being played then why did they allow you to choose what prestige you play with?
Right now If I hate P2, but like P3, I never have to Play P2 at all, I just have to grind longer with P0/P1 (which is really annoying if I’m not really liking those ones either at levels 1-15).
Just because you enjoy something doesn’t mean you can’t dislike parts of it. (and I seriously don’t see how this would “cater towards one population over another”)
This argument would make some sense if you could use the prestige as it’s advertised as soon as you unlock it. Having to relevel in the prestige you gave up 15 levels of work to get away from is not something I think you can really defend. Only learn to live with.
Not asking you guys to agree with what’s happening, just understand it. I don’t think any amount of “it should be this or that” will change it.
I don’t NEED to defend it because it just is lol.
I’m also out on these convo because it just feels very pointless. There’s nothing real concrete with these topics. It’s always just “prestige grind bad” and it should be “this and that”. I get it makes life easier, but yeah, have at it. This is 7 weeks and counting. The amount of this type of topics died down significantly, as I’m sure it’ll continue to diminish cuz nothing will change.
Exactly the point of the topic at this moment is to remind the developers that the product they released seven weeks ago is still very bad in a particular aspect.
People will try whatever prestiges seem advantageous to them both now and in the future. If a prestige is not getting use it could be because it is poorly designed/implemented.
Also, if a prestige still needs to be developed further it wont stop people’s enjoyment of the good ones cause there would be no gates.
Fair enough. For the record, out of the many topics on this subject, I find your take much more reasonable, as do I find your response.
