Hello, everyone. I hope you’re all having a good day or that it improves if that is not the case. I got the campaign collection a bit ago and didn’t really click and fall in love with Starcraft 2 until recently. I really enjoy single player, cooperative, and PVE in general. I saw that most of cosmetics were locked behing PVP though. I’d assumed I’d be matched up with people who were similarly not trained in such things and that working through unlocking things would be reasonable.
This was a mistake. PVP has been entirely an experience of getting one’s teeth kicked in by people who’re your betters by several orders of magnitude. Which is further exacerbated by unlocks requiring between 4000-8000 wins to get everything. Not matches. Wins. I’m sure when the game was at the height of its popularity this wouldn’t have been so bad but now?
It’s several minutes of waiting for a match and then getting stomped into the ground by folks who might as well have a doctorate in competitive Starcraft. It’s an insane time investment to just eat dirt over and over for days to years hoping you eventually get a decal unlock that only really matters to you.
Just unlock everything that doesn’t require a purchase from the get go. Let people express themselves. Detach cosmetics from achievements. PVPers will always have their rarity ranks to show off and those seemingly matter a lot more to them than anything else. Or at least nerf the requirements by like 75% and let AI matches count?
Just something. Anything. Whatever’s easiest to implement. It’s genuinely frustrating to not be able to customize things to your liking without smashing your face into the video game equivalent of a spiked wall.
there wont be nothing like that as sc2 has been out of developement since 2019. the game is as it is.
You have to lose a fair number of matches before matchmaking adjusts.
If you are serious about 100% achievements it’s best to focus on Random first as those wins count towards Random and whichever race you end up with. So getting the Predator and Dark Voice portraits ends up being 6000 wins.
I’ve almost got the Predator portrait for team wins. I’m about half way to getting the Dark Voice. And I’m far from an expert at competitive RTS.
Regardless, these portraits and other cosmetics shouldn’t affect game enjoyment and there are a lot that aren’t accessible at all because they were tied to events or limited edition purchases. As far as the achievements and their associated cosmetics go: Earning them is the point and it would be pretty unfair if everyone who went to all that trouble suddenly didn’t have anything unique to show for it.
Granted on the time limited/no longer available ones. I don’t expect those will ever come back either. As for making people feel bad for the effort they put in to unlock something; that didn’t exactly stop them from making people who bought Wings of Liberty feel cheated when WoL went free-to-play did they? Moreover the biggest point of reward for PVP mainly seems to be ranking rarity.
I’d also like to point out that in the single player campaigns the AI has access to a lot more decals than we do making it seem like [at least the ones seen in campaign] should be unlocked for use for everyone. Which still leaves quite a lot to unlock but gives considerably more wiggle room for player customization I think?
You have to admit it’s a bit jarring to see, for example, the Dominion and Claw Brood decals in campaign but then go to see that you need to essentially treat SC2 like a career to unlock them when they’re just right there being used by the AI.
ADDITION: I just remembered something else that bothered me. Why the hell are all the level up decals race restricted? Just making them have a variant for all three would’ve alleviated this issue too.
you should worry more about playing the game rather than something like decals. all the cosmetics your talking about are absolutely pointless in the game. they dont help you in anyway shape or form. Instead worry about having fun and enjoying the game for what it is, a game.
In cases where you didn’t have all the campaigns purchased, you got one for free. I believe those who had the campaigns got a few free co-op commanders or something like that, which, although not quite the same, at least seemed to be a good compensation, and a nudge for people to try out co-op.
Very common thing across many genres of games…
To make things more unique and grindy, of course. Welcome to Activison Blizzard King
Achievement hunting isn’t that exclusive. If you keep losing in ladder you’ll be matched with players closer to your skill level. And even if you are the absolute worst player in the world, you’ll still get opponents who just quit immediately. Just keep playing and you’ll get the stuff you want. If you don’t want it badly enough to grind for them, then there are plenty of other things to focus on.
