Please add higher difficulty

Yes I know about brutal++++++ with a party member, but a lot of the modifiers are just annoying (polarity, microtransactions etc); as it stands Brutal base is way too easy for master level players.

I would love to see a ‘Nightmare’ base mode with increased speed on enemy waves or larger enemy waves. Any other ideas to the base difficulty would be great to add here!

PS: We need more missions!!!

The usual disclaimer of “I’m sure we’re aware of the Oct. 2020 announcement of no more content” out of the way…

I fear it may fragment the player base too much. Granted, if half the people do Nightmare, while the other half does Brutal, they can still combine those games into some hybrid that’s between the 2. But then wouldn’t the ‘pure Nightmare’ crowd be unhappy about this?

Did they say there is no more content coming for coop? And make it so the hardest difficulty has to be unlocked somehow I guess. Maybe you need to win a minimum of 100 brutal missions and/or require a fully prestiged commander to play it.

As it stands now I usually never wait longer than 10 seconds for a brutal game to pop.

Yes they said they won’t work on coop anymore. You could try Nexus coop if you want but I think it’s over the top.

Is it possible to make custom map missions using the coop commanders then? Direct Strike has all the coop commanders and units so I’d imagine it would be possible… I’d love to see a revamped Dead of Night style map.

Well, they said no more paid content, but it’s been over 2.5 years since then. The best we got with unpaid content were fixing any showstoppers in the servers (like levels and progressing COs not loading), and one game update… that was actually done by the community.

Correct. That’s b/c vast majority of players queue on Brutal. If I were to guestimate, probably 90%, if not higher (98%)? If Nightmare were to come out not sure if it would split Brutal 50/50 between that and Nightmare, but I’d surmise even something like a 70/30 split would be enough to be noticed.

You could also try playing at a different time. It usually takes me longer to get a pairing if I play late in the night in my time.

Despite Bliz using the word “paid” in the 2020 announcement, all development of SC2 formally ended at that time. All that remains on Bliz’s side is pvp balance patches and game breaking bug fixing.

That said, an interesting side note is that at some point in prerelease development, Coop had 6 difficulty levels. The 5th and 6th are named “Extreme” and “Unlikely” in the map triggers. They just didn’t make it to release.

I bet every wave would have 100-150 army supply of units in those difficulties.

Yeah, lol.

I’ve occasionally thought about what could be changed for those difficulties besides adding gimmicky stuff like B+ does.

Bigger attack waves? More frequent attack waves? Higher tier attack waves? Less mineral patches? Enemy units starting with more upgrades, both abilities and weapon/armor? More base defenders? Higher tier base defenders?
It seems that there’s only so much that can be done outside of gimmicks.

I read someplace that the triggers for the early co-op maps still have those difficulty levels within the overall map code. Is there a way to try them via Arcade?

The expanded difficulty trigger is still present in the maps’ code, but unfortunately that’s it. The last two difficulty levels aren’t used, as in, there’s nothing coded that calls on them.

Meaning, it would have to be added by the community. Which unfortunately would become a confusing deluge of custom maps all containing people’s differing opinions on what the difficulties should be.

Personally, I’d love it if we got Brutalisks/Leviathans, Motherships, or Loki Cruisers added to waves. Maybe even a special Amon hybrid (like the one in SoA) leading them at the last wave and makes the encounter a mini boss fight (like in P&P) would be epic. I’d rather have that than mutators that just worsen the variability of games.

Check out Maguro’s map in Arcade. He’s added a ton of extra mutators that are generally a lot more fun and less annoying than the official ones

Yea, mutators in a limited capacity are one of the few ways to do it, since bigger attack waves don’t mean anything with so many CO’s able to delete entire waves with a single click of a button. Send a 500 supply army, Swann has a Pulse Cannon with their name on it.

I would rather want not another difficulty that adds even bigger late game attack waves… cause let’s be honest: if you can melt 100 supply waves in seconds, you can do that with 200 too.

And I would not want even bigger early game waves either, cause let’s be honest: Vultures on Rifts to Corhal for some commanders is stupid as it is.

They should rather introduce mutator veto, so you can tell the game which mutators you do not want to play. Even just a veto list of 3 or 4 would go a long way, making b+ less annoying… looking at you fatal attraction and concussive attacks.

FWIW, that’s how it already is. For example, for DoN, max saturation of mins is 30 on Hard, but 27 on Brutal. I guess with Extremely/Nightmare, it could just be 24.

Attack waves could come out even earlier, but that would mess with quite a few COs. Think RtK where at roughly the 2:00 mark, Corporal Faraday announces that enemy forces are inbound. They typically reach you at 2:30. Pushing that up for a lot of the missions/maps means you’ll need to build static d, or some initial forces before most heroes spawn. That would slow those players down now having to divert resources and APM into those early defenses.

They could really wreck with things by going after your workers. Getting that wrecked can be recoverable, but will still take a hit to your tempo.

Or make them play smarter. For example, when Sirius throws out turrets, have them retreat instead of engaging them.

B+ may not be the difficulty we deserve but it is the difficulty we have.

Most/all mutations are manageable by “master” level players. If you struggle with them then maybe reflect on your own abilities.

Hint: B+ requires skill sets than regular Brutal players simply don’t have.

Nay, add more prestiges! XD

I think this is mostly true, but I would also add that some commanders are just a lot better for the current set of mutators, and there’s no way around it
