People gives up way to early

Arguably I did not have the best start ever.

I was to busy mumbling to myself about lvl1 Stetman P2 going brutal and my raynor lvl 9 P3 being more of a meme than a solid build so I f*cked up several things in a row (barrack first instead of CC first, late bunker, etc).

And then bad comp, things on cooldown at the wrong timing, things went slightly poorly on my side (but well on his side so I was facepalming pretty hard right then). Now when I say it went bad for me I mean it was merely a flesh wound really, a small delay for my plans, a minor setback and no reason at all to feel pessimistic (just loosing my main at the first big attack on my side) … but my ally just left giving a nice chat afterward (that I deserved my pseudo).

It ain’t my fault other players lack faith and mental fortitude :stuck_out_tongue:

Still that’s my worst win until now so I figured I’d share it. drop.sc/replay/17022233

I don’t blame them for leaving. If you aren’t pulling your weight, and aren’t doing much to contribute, you’re making the game harder for your ally. It’s more stressful than you think to various people.

I could agree if that were true … then again I won by myself from there with a P2 Stetman ally (so without being able to add stetzone or change the stetzone bonus).

He left, I won he lost.

People mess up, it happens. For me I try to cover my side first. If I’m able I’ll try to help my partner if needed because each wave starts to get bigger after the first trasher.

P3 Raynor, you could always build banshees / vikings and time your call downs to handle early waves. Then you could slowly transition to BCs.

Yes I am wondering about that.

I don’t have the zone attack from banshee yet (nor for the viking) so I tried just one early banshee … which I lost (everything went wrong).

I was hopeful to do more on the south side (cleaning the hatch and the drone so no more buildings there) and have my call down in time … but I did not have them. I could also have done just a few empty bunkers and repair them while my BCs were shooting the lings flood … but I did not.

Yup messed up the early game but I was confident for the next phase. My ally leaving was just a bit much for me and I was not all that confident to win anymore but hell if I am going to let a faithless ally ruin my 80 something win streak.

You won because of a highly boosted economy. That’s different from saying you actually won solo. No one is a winner there.

I won because the game was not lost yet when he left.

I had lost plenty but not so much that I could not recover from.
I did not win solo but I did win playing alone from 7-8 mn to the end of the countdown in ToTP.

He thought we had no chance and he thought wrong hence he left and lost. Even alone and with my main in shambles and my first troops dead I thought I still had a chance and I did. Coz I won. And he lost :stuck_out_tongue:
I did not intend to solo the game as a lvl 9 Raynor but I did intend to win. And that I did despite my ally leaving early. It was close … but one more victory still and all the more satisfying knowing my ally who just gave up easy got no xp while I had all (not to mention it is very satisfying to see only green in your match history screens after screens and I intend to reach the 100 wins in a row again soon).

If your economy was in shambles, it would have taken you a solid 4-5 minutes to get it back on track. 4-5 minutes that your Ally would have to carry the entire game while you got back on your feet. The only way you were able to recover as quick as you did was because you took over his economy.

Some players don’t want to have to deal with the extreme stress of having to solo for part of a mission. When he saw that would be the case, he left to go for a game where he wouldn’t have that stress on him. You got a fully refreshed economy. I’d say you both made the right decisions in your respective frame of references.

Not quite sure. If he had helped instead of looking without doing anything his Gary would have taken care of the remaining of the wave I screwed up and drastically reduce the damage done. Even without it I had my call downs for the next wave so I would have handled it past that wave.

I doubt that since he spent some time messaging me after and then went offline before the game was over and remained offline for at least a few hours, possibly for the day. Also watching his match history there were plenty of losses including of people insta leaving. Considering he was going brutal with a lvl 1 P2 Stetman I can only guess plenty of people left early game seeing that or similar low level commander on brutal. So he had an opportunity right there with me and instead left, lost and went offline while making the game harder for me.

I don’t think he made the right choice even from his point of view. I understand his choice: he had a few losses in his match history where he had several times more kills than his ally and probably feared this would turn that way eventually. He was wrong though, he gave up when he should not have and paid the price (a loss, no xp and upset) and I did not give up and reap the reward (XP, victory and an adrenaline rush you seldom have in coop).

Still him leaving made the victory much more uncertain and he be damn for that.

Then you clearly don’t understand the stress that dealing with a bad ally can bring. I have to deal with this sort of thing constantly, and if I’m not on one of my mains, or I’m leveling a Commander, then it’s a very bad time.
Don’t be putting others down because they didn’t want to carry you. That turns you into the villain.

You know, this makes me wonder why something like the ignore list doesn’t have the added feature of blacklisting the people in it so if you get a matched with a quiter, griefer, big jerk, etc and ignore them after the game ends you won’t ever get matched with them again.

Of course this only applies to co-op and not the other modes like ranked.

Okay here is what I think after watching the replay.

About you
Pros: Tenacity. Lot of people just leaves when their partner leaves but you defended yourself and beat the map even when your base was breaking off. I respect that.

True, he didn’t fully solo with united bases but he did managed control his own army to victory. I would say… half-solo.

Cons: I haven’t played Raynor P3 but you have to admit that low defence on the side wave are your responsibility.
Even if whole wave came from your side, you had to put up some defence.

This, lot of us will agree. Co-op is co-op, while partners should help each other that doesn’t mean they have to carry you, you have to carry your own weight (and especially when your partner is levelling at low level).
Besides bad or means (or both) players exist in every game, this isn’t actually thread-worthy. Just cut your loss and move on.

About your “partner”
There is no excuse for him to leave you alone when the army is coming at your side exclusively. Clearly he was letting them kill you out of spite. While your defence is your own responsibility but situation-wise (when a wave coming from “one” side), he “could’ve” helped you but when he didn’t that tells he is not a very nice player.

Perhaps he did you a favor by leaving and handing you his resources. Clearly he did not deserve your victory at the end.

Alas, all of useful air upgrades for Viking and Banshees were locked. His best choice against Sky Zerg was Marine/Medic/Firebat.

Even as P3? I was afraid the +50% mineral cost would make them worse than just BCs (even though BCs were very bad they at least gave me quicker cooldowns and some meat).

I fully agree I messed up that part big time. I should have had a cooldown ready or at least a bunker wall to gain time. He could have helped but ultimately just staying in game while I painfully took care of the last troops in my base would have been fine too.

Carry me? What a strong carry I needed since he left early on and I still won. If he just did his part (although a little help just at that wave would have been nice) we’d have won with bonuses.

Ahem, I have been leveling commanders for the past two months and almost never played lvl 15 commanders, don’t you think I met or carried plenty more than my share? How do you think I won more than 100 games in a row?
If you only take into account my lvl1-14 games my winrate is 95% overall, 96% in brutal alone (where I have 76% of my games and only play commanders once I am confident with them).

Don’t talk to me about carrying games for I do plenty, all under-leveled and never would I leave an ally who tries but fails. Never.

If your level was 13, upgraded Banshee and Viking would made a short work of all them. Your next best thing to do was use the bunker and put firebats against zerglings and marines against Mutalisks. Zerglings are fragile but not to be underestimated.

For you him leaving was the best thing that happened. His economy really sprang you up good. Good enough to achieve victory with your own army.

Yeah I know lvl13 would have been great, I am waiting for this upgrade. Lvl10 more life, lvl 11 more range, 12 instant depo and 13 power spike with air upgrades … Soon I’ll make my Raynor great again.

As for his eco … it depends how good he was. Even simply average his army is just so much better against that comp (hydras with energy against this) he should have little issues to keep doing his half and maybe some more. Granted if he had been a terrible players himself and was about to loose all his waves (the way I lost that freaking first wave on my side) him leaving then would have saved me.

From a time efficiency standpoint if you win say 95% of your brutal games even with occasional disconnects, having to leave a game suddenly on a rare occasion, etc (most people on here are probably better than and are higher than that).

If you are trying to level as quickly as possible (I really don’t play for that reason but many do) it makes sense to cut your losses and leave depending what your win probability chances are at the moment and how far into the mission you are. I’d venture to say if you fall below 50% perhaps even 70% win probability (granted this is not measurable and thus subjective) and you are a 95% win play, it’s probably more time / commander experience efficient to cut your losses, and que up again.

Personally some of the most fun games are games with early mistakes / issues that lead to some drama, and a little bit of doubt . But yeah from a time standpoint, it’s better to leave and que up again.

I don’t think I ever had a deco or left the game once. I have no idea what’s the winrate people here have for their lvl 1-14 but I’d wager it isn’t quite as high as you believe, especially with people saying they are still struggling even with full mastery commanders who aren’t their main and who defend giving up early. Which arguably is something I kinda thought two months ago when I was much less confident in coop and more relying on my ally not being terrible.

A game is not lost until the objective is failed. As a Raynor (still him) I won a game after first wave destroyed my ally Nexus and killed most of his probes before my calldown was ready. Now I don’t fault that guy for leaving and I may even have done the same in his place but I stayed because that was completely winnable. In most cases if my ally is struggling I use my calldown to help them instead. Sometimes even then they keep loosing most of their army and that’s ok they do their best and if it is a time mission it does not even slow me down that much. Worse case scenario that can happen is that I don’t do bonuses.

Still there are games where your army gets wiped and you did not expect it (hello Zagara, hello Nova) and then you can’t carry your ally any longer and end up loosing with 4 times more kills + objective damage … but that was not enough. Like Nova and Zag both are my lowest winrates, 62 wins and 5 losses for Nova (so many losses it even made up for an extra win) and 65 wins 6 losses for Zagara (and you can see there I even played her on hard for the first levels, hence more games total). Luckily I have my Dehaka and Stetman to make up for it with 0 loss each (but Stetman is not completely done yet, P3 is in progress).

Anyhow maybe I am wrong and players here have a higher winrate than I think but I doubt it. You can check your own stat with Starcraft coop overlay and even enter custom periods. The games I used here are all games with lvl1-14 commanders since Prestige patch.

There’s times when you get home from work, crack open a beer or two, and got time for a game or two. All of a sudden, your Ally, who you have no idea what their skill level is, lose their defenses and start getting their base overran. And 9 times out of 10, they are going to be down for the count for a decent chunk of the mission. You look at your beer, look at the clock, and look at the enemy and go, “naw m8, it’s too late for this crap” and decide to head on out instead of having to struggle for a bit.

Again, statistically speaking, most games where that happens would have been a death sentence for the player. And looking at the amount of resources the other player was banking, he wasn’t the most skilled either.

There’s been games where I assisted my ally when they were brought way low. Carried hard and manage to bring us victory, even on Brutations. And there’s been games where I’ve seen them flounder around, get hit hard, and start to lose most of their stuff. If I just got off work, I’m on my second beer and need to go to bed soon, yea, I’ll just give the gg and head on out.

Either way, the game was doomed from the beginning. Neither player said gl, hf. Always a bad omen, lol. But it’s still good to see you pull through to the victory.
