PATCH went live just now

patch is up on na, hop on boys and enjoy

Well I guess we’re buffing the hell out of protoss even more, and giving some buffs to Zerg.

I don’t think this patch was ready to go live. The Microbial Shroud change in particular is probably going to require a cascade of changes further down the line.

great patch

It’s only a 50% damage reduc. And infestors do not have consume, so you cannot just spam it.

This is not broodwar. Stop conflating microbial shroud as if it’s no different than dark swarm. Infestors are not defilers. The difference between the 2 is literally night and day.

No, Microbial Shroud applies before armor, doubling its effect. The reality is that Microbial Shroud’s damage reduction is a minimum of 50%, but it actually scales up to over 90% in some cases.

Almost all splash damage units are also affected. In the editor, Colossus, Hellions, Hellbats, and Lurkers are all coded as dealing ranged damage, so they are all heavily affected by this change. Siege Tanks and Archons also deal “ranged damage” to their main target.

The fact of the matter is that this Microbial Shroud change is an extreme buff, that is both unnecessary, excessive, and doesn’t have the counterplay that most people expect. That is why it is a bad change.

IMO it’s okay for Microbial Shroud to be strong because 90% of the population doesn’t have the speed to use it well.

Incompetence doesn’t balance out broken mechanics.

Wouldn’t it be fun to have hard skill checks in the game? That’s the reason why Brood War will always have a scene.

This isn’t a skill-check. It is just flat out broken, and it lacks any effective counterplay.

It sounds cringe, but there is always the strategy to just avoid the army and go base trade lol

Tell that to protoss players.

That’s a sign of a broken mechanic that doesn’t belong in the game.

You could probably say the same about the old Protoss ‘ball of death’ right?

The Protoss death-ball is beatable by both Terran and Zerg.

So for Protoss, I’m thinking that both the buffed Disruptors and Charge Zealots will still be strong. For Terran, I don’t know, maybe 2 supply Ghosts can work.

BTW, will Storm still do full damage?

Storm does 140 damage now, in a larger radius. The damage is about the same as previous patch if you pull out of storm very quickly though. So basically it’s a flat buff.

Sure, it just takes vastly more work on one side than on the other. TvP is, almost certainly going to be worse than it was before, not better.

No f2 observers went through, lmao. Now the PPP can actually say the observer has been heavily nerfed. I’m happy with the patch, played a whole bunch this week and the players remaining are AWFUL. Need an intervention to cyclone only abusers, skytoss only, ling spam off a pool first, etc.

Pray to jeebus it brings protoss win-rates down. I might play again in a week or two if things are looking good but if protoss winrates are >50% in ZvP then it’s adios. I have zero interest in being a punching bag for some basement dweller on a power trip. It’s pretty bad when it’s funner to make fun of a game on some forums than it is to actually play it. We’ll see what happens. Maybe protoss winrates go up and maybe they go down. It’s impossible to say at this point.

ZvP is absolutely miserable. I was just shy of 50% in ZvP logging in today and lost 9/10 ZvP games. And there are WAY more Protoss on the ladder.
