Patch Om3ga Mod

“OM3GA 3” Mod Pipeline

Project Context: Conceptual Blueprints

Live Environment Reference: OM3GA 2 is currently active on the NA Server.

1. Executive Summary & Design Philosophy

This blueprint outlines the complete design for the upcoming OM3GA 3 game engine update. The main goal of this version is simple: nothing lasts forever.

In older versions of competitive strategy games, armies could stay at full health indefinitely using healing units, free repairs, or passive shields. OM3GA 3 tears down that safety net.

Every single unit is treated as a highly volatile, expendable resource. Healing is heavily restricted, defensive structures are difficult to maintain, and using powerful abilities comes at a permanent cost to your army or economy.

2. Global Game Rules & Systems

2.1 The Misfire Engine (Why Attacks Miss)

Battles are no longer perfectly predictable. A new accuracy system changes how fast units can kill each other ($TTK$, or Time-to-Kill).

  • The Missing Window: Standard units have a permanent 37% to 63% chance to miss their targets during an attack.

  • Balancing the Underdogs: To keep weak or heavily nerfed units useful, they bypass this rule. They retain 100% perfect accuracy so players still have a reason to build them.

  • Fast Guns vs. Big Cannons: Because of how probability works, units that shoot incredibly fast (high fire rates) will smooth out their luck over a long battle, making their damage reliable. Slow-firing, heavy-hitting units suffer massively if they roll a miss, making them highly risky to use.

2.2 Global Macro Pacing & Supply

Matches are designed to start slowly to allow for smart tactical positioning, then accelerate into overwhelming endgame chaos. The absolute maximum supply cap is locked at 275 for all three factions.

3. Faction Redesigns

3.1 Zerg: Heavy Taxes & Finite Tokens

To solve the late-game problem where Zerg players sit on mountains of unspent minerals, all Zerg spellcasters require a rigid 5:1 Mineral-to-Gas cost ratio.

Spellcaster Cost & Ability Profile

Unit Name New Resource Cost Role & Ability Tweaks
Queen 250 Minerals / 50 Gas No energy. Uses a finite ammo payload system.
Infestor 500 Minerals / 100 Gas Fungal Growth freezes enemy units in place.
Viper 625 Minerals / 125 Gas Pulls units and drops toxic air clouds.

The Queen’s Payload Matrix

The Queen no longer uses energy. Instead, she spawns with 2 Master Charges (Ammo Tokens). These charges never regenerate. Once a Queen uses her two tokens, she is permanently out of ammunition and becomes a basic frontline tank. To get more tokens, you must hatch a completely new Queen.

                      ┌──► [Base Tech] Aero-Infestation (Costs 1 Charge) ──► Spawns 2 Anti-Air Units
[2 Absolute Charges] ┼──► [Base Tech] Transfuse (Costs 1 Charge) ──► Instantly heals +75 HP
├──► [Lair Tech] Active Creep Spread (Costs 1 Charge) ──► Drops a Creep Tumor
└──► [Hive Tech] Slash-and-Burn (Costs 1 Charge) ──► Blows up gas for a speed boost

  • Aero-Infestation: The Queen launches two fleshy Spore Eggs to a target location (0.5-second travel time) that burst open to spawn 2 Infested Aero-Terrans.

    • Aero-Terran Stats: 50 HP, 10-second lifetime. They possess an air-only attack that deals 10 damage every 1.45 seconds. This equals $6.89$ anti-air DPS per unit, designed to perfectly match $2/3$ of a standard Corruptor’s firepower to shred incoming dropships.
  • Modified Transfuse: Instantly heals a friendly Zerg unit or building for +75 HP.

  • Active Creep Spread (Requires Lair Tech): Instantly drops a Creep Tumor to expand Zerg territory.

  • Slash-and-Burn (Requires Hive Tech): Targets a friendly gas mine (Extractor). It permanently boosts that Extractor’s mining speed by 10%, but instantly deletes 20% of all remaining gas inside that geyser. This provides an explosive surge of income at the cost of starving yourself later.

The 10-Larva Influx & Lethal Cancels

The core Zerg economy has been completely automated to match this fast, burst-heavy playstyle:

  • No More Injects: The Queen’s classic “Inject Larva” spell is completely deleted.

  • Passive Incubation: All Hatcheries, Lairs, and Hives naturally hold up to 10 Larvae at once (up from 3) and start the game with all 10 ready to go. They automatically generate 1 new Larva every 7 seconds until hitting that maximum cap of 10.

  • Zero-Refund Lethal Cancels: If a Zerg player cancels a building under construction or aborts a unit currently morphing inside a cocoon, the underlying unit or Drone dies instantly. You receive a 0% resource refund. If you make a mistake or get scouted, your investment is vaporized.

3.2 Terran: Free Upkeep & Zero-Heal Logistics

Traditional defensive safety nets and biological healing are completely banned from the Terran arsenal.

  • No Upkeep Costs: In older versions, SCVs had to spend minerals to repair damaged mechanical units and buildings. In OM3GA 3, all repairs are completely free and use a non-resource energy matrix. This allows Terran players to hoard 100% of their minerals for building massive armies.

  • The No-Healing Rule: Medivacs can no longer heal infantry units. SCVs can no longer repair anything. Biological infantry forces cannot be healed under any circumstances—all damage taken is permanent.

  • Command Center Buff: Because structures can no longer be repaired by workers, the Command Center’s health is raised from 1,500 HP to 1,750 HP to help it survive early attacks.

The MULE 5-Point Fuel Matrix

MULE units do not die to a simple visible countdown timer. Instead, their entire lifespan is governed by a strict 5-Point Fuel Grid. When that fuel budget hits zero, the mechanical frame is destroyed.

Fuel Rule Target Value How It Works In-Game
Maximum Fuel 5 The absolute maximum energy cap for the MULE.
Fuel Recovery 0.0 Fuel never regenerates.
Movement Cost -0.2 Fuel / Sec Changing movement coordinates for 5 seconds burns 1 fuel point.
Structural Collapse State: Dead When fuel hits exactly 0, the MULE instantly explodes and is destroyed.
Discrete Repair 1 Fuel Actively casting a repair instantly restores +10 HP to a mechanical unit or structure for zero mineral cost.

3.3 Protoss: The Scrap Metal Economy & Shield Gating

The Protoss faction is designed around a brutal cycle of physical breakdown, shield tech milestones, and material salvage.

[Spawn: 0 Shields / Base HP] ➔ [Attack: Consumes HP as Ammo] ➔ [Upgrade Level 2 Shields] ➔ [Unlocks Max Shield Spawns + Passive Regen]

  • Shield Gating Baseline: Protoss units initially spawn with zero base shields. Active shielding and defensive cell regeneration are completely locked away behind the upgrade matrix.

  • The Level 2 Shield Milestone: Researching Shield Upgrade Level 2 fundamentally changes Protoss survivability. Once completed, it unlocks passive shield regeneration for all units, and ensures all newly produced Protoss forces spawn with 100% maximum starting shields.

  • HP-as-Ammunition: Protoss weapons are incredibly powerful, but firing them drains the unit’s own structural health. Every time a unit shoots, it gets closer to self-destruction unless shielded by Level 2 technology.

  • The Recycling Loop (Recall Rework): Because units actively degrade themselves by attacking early on, the “Mass Recall” ability functions as a salvage mechanic. Recalling your damaged mechanical units back to a Nexus structural base completely disassembles them, providing a direct refund of their original Vespene Gas cost.

  • The Refund Math: The game checks how much health the unit has left before recycling it:

    $$\text{Gas Refunded} = \text{Original Gas Cost} \times \text{Current HP \%} \times 0.75$$

(This applies a flat 25% materials recycling fee. Any units left on the battlefield with low health must be used as disposable frontline shields.)

4. Resource Efficiency Analysis

The structural changes introduced in this engine update are designed to compress the massive spending gaps between the three alien races. It forces every economy to balance cleanly around the map’s natural ~2.4:1 Mineral-to-Gas income ratio.

[Terran Baseline Efficiency: 90/100] ─── (Upkeep Shifted to Free Energy Pools) ───► [Projected: 90/100]
[Protoss Baseline Efficiency: 65/100] ─── (Recall Recycling + HP-as-Ammo Loops) ───► [Projected: 75-80/100]
[Zerg Baseline Efficiency: 45/100] ─── (5:1 Caster Sink + Slash-and-Burn) ───► [Projected: 85-90/100]

  • Terran Maintenance (90/100): By keeping repairs tied to free MULE fuel and Medivac thresholds, Terran avoids losing money to army maintenance. They stay at a near-flawless 90/100 resource conversion rate, with MULE lifespans strictly limited by operational usage.

  • Protoss Elevation (75-80/100): Protoss historically suffered from low economic efficiency because losing high-tech units completely broke their bank. The Recall Refund allows players to safely cash out broken units early on, transitioning into an elite, durable force once Level 2 Shields are achieved.

  • Zerg Elevation (85-90/100): Forcing Zerg spellcasters to cost five times more minerals than gas completely flattens their excess floating wealth. When combined with the Slash-and-Burn upgrade, Zerg players can immediately melt down their immense mineral pools and sudden gas surges into instant high-tier armies.
