Now before I suggest any changes, I’d like to start by saying this does NOT affect balance, nor should it. I believe nukes should tax APM from opponents and take a second to find, that’s why they’re so powerful late game. But for me, a red-green color blind zerg player, they’re impossible for me to see. I’ve tried playing with Protoss and Terran, and I can see the red dot just fine. However, with zerg’s creep and zerg buildings, they blend so much to where I cant see them at all. They’re not difficult to see; they are truly invisible. I’ve tried every variation of the color-blind modes and as well as my unit/building colors in-game NOTHING WORKS. If your only indicator of where the nuke is landing is the sound effect, then its already too late. The Red Dot on creep, to me, looks exactly like creep. I’m sure other color-blind players see it the same way.
Here is my suggestion:Provide an option to change the color of the nuke dot. For example, Make the Red Dot have an option to either be Teal, Bright Orange, or bright green. If you can’t have an option for one of these, make it only just one of these. Any color blind player can see all of these, but most color blind players can’t see red on top of creep. If a player chooses default in settings, the “Dot” remains red. I hope you’ll consider this suggestion. Thank you for your time.
I think the best option would be teal (or another form of bright blue) bright green, or bright orange. The Reason why is that because each one of those will be better for someone depending on their type of color blindness. The color red is hard to see in general for people with any type of color blindness. but its much worse for people who are red-green color blind like myself. because red and green look brown/purple which is exactly why its pretty impossible for me to see.
In short teal would honestly be the best but the other ones would work to.
Same here, I cannot see the red dot even when searching for it in the reruns. I agree that the option for a light blue or green dot would help a lot like us. It’s not a big thing, but I hope Blizzard picks this up and gives us the option.
I have the exact same problem. Being a color blind, I have never seen the dot in any of my games yet. I even tried to see it on a replay and even though I knew where the nuke was going to land I still wasn’t able to see the dot.
When I hear the “nuclear launch detected” announcement I desperately scroll the camera left and right and trying to pay attention to the pan of the sound on my headphones so that I can at least figure out which side of the map the nuke is landing.
A solution would be making the dot effected by the “enable additional team color textures” setting. If you don’t already know enabling this setting makes most of the in game effects(the color of guardian shields, liberator zones, emp etc.) the same color as the player’s color. So if you have a terran opponent whom you made the opponent color yellow their emps and liberation zones turns yellow too. If the dot were effected by this setting then we would be able to change its color.
I understand that visual design wise the dot should be red as it is a laser sight setting the coordinates for the nuke but it is in a way an accessibility issue(even though it is a minor one) and would be great if it was adressed.
This might make it too obvious, but would slight animation or drift in the dot help as well? In Brood War, the dot would flicker rapidly (although nukes did far more damage too). If we use reasons of lore, the Ghost is using a rifle-mounted target painter and would move at least slightly no matter how well-trained you are. That is… to the player, you see the dot drift a few pixels around a central point.
Potentially? It would also depend on what graphic setting you are on too, the higher graphic settings have creep be slightly animated as well, as this “living sludge” that it is.
Maybe nuke dot should be team coloured. That way when you use team colours to set the enemy to an obvious colour you can see (as I suspect most colourblind players already have to), it would do the same for the dot.
I’m color blind too and don’t even know how the red dot looks. I just cannot see it, even in replays where I know where it is. That is true on every texture.
I can see it on this picture (h t t p s : / / i. stack . imgur. com / D3BDN.jpg), because it is marked and changes the buildings texture a bit. But I had to search for it for a good second or so, knowing it had to be in the highlighted area.
Just let us color blinds change the dots color please.
Nuke is nothning, I don;t swe red crosshair over enemy… WHY for god sake, they can’t introduce changing this in menu? This drives me crazy when i want aim to noobish carrier or sth… crap of sh**&*&t
All that occurs now are balance changes and bug fixes. With SC2 out of development, both are now done by the community, specifically, the pros.
Any pro submitted changes are copied and pasted into the existing server side mods, not by developers, but by any remaining staff that know how to alter the server side mods.
However, the only way the community can make changes is through the editor. If it can’t be done through the editor, it can’t be done by the community.
Changing the nuke indicator can be done through the editor, however, unless you can find pros that agree with you, it’s not likely to ever be changed. Not to mention that would be a development change, not a balance or bug fix, so it’s even less likely any pros will agree.
There aren’t updates with each round of tournaments. Updates are far and few between now.
End of development was in late 2020, and as a result, 2021, 2022 and 2023 all combined only had two updates that were balance/bug changes.
I´m color blind and I can´t see the red dot either, but you can hear the landing of the nuke when your screen is near the red dot so that´s a good way to spot it.
Nukes should show up on the mini map “IF” the dot or target is within zerg sight radius.
The fact it DOES NOT simply shows how rigged this game is in favor of Terran players.
If a zerg player makes a nydus worm in terrans base… it shows up on their map…
And why is that when the work is under ground… it should not right.
Yet all the zerg untis and buildings are LIVING ORGANISMS and if they see the dot… their is NOT WARNING ON ZERGS MAP OR VISUAL TO SHOW US ITS TARGETED THERE.
You got a few seconds to look ALL OVER THE MAP for a little tiny red dot.
Its been imbalanced and dumb from day 1 of sc2 history. Terran always known as the EZ race.
