Nova Prestige Bug

Captain Nova prestige 1. In the description of 2 and 3 plants -50%, but in fact -100% (600 seconds, but should be 450)
(50% from 300 is 150, 300+150=450 not 600) when i use 1st prestige

Int the map editor, the exact effect seen is +300 for structures built as 2nd and 3rd, and -150 for the structure built as first.
Viewed on Data, Abilities, Terran/CAbilWarpTrain/StarportTrainNova (Train) in the upgrades section of the ability, that has one ā€œupgradeā€ per "type of building built first.
That’s for facts.
It’s true that the description of the prestige use very weird words and is quite unclear.

It might seem that the right calculation is 300 * (1 + 0,5) = 450
But it’s actually 300 / (1 - 0,5) = 600
So not really a bug, just description is not very precise.

Not a precise description? Sorry, but that is not an accurate assessment of the problem. 50% of something is 1/2 not 1, so 300 * .5 = 150 not 300. There is only one correct way to do math. So the description isn’t just ā€˜not very precise’ it is entirely incorrect.

The description of both increase and decrease in percentages is entirely wrong and misleading.

Regular charge time is 300. A 50% buff to this charge time decreases the time it takes by 150. Remember that the game timer does not accurately depict seconds irl, so we cannot assume 1 charge time = 1 second. But we can say that the timer shows 300 normally, 150 when the buff is taken into account and 600 when the nerf is taken into account.

However the math is done behind the scenes, the description doesn’t explain it properly.

In game buff/nerf description:

300 + 100% buff = 150 charge time

300 + 50% nerf = 600 charge time

So why is a 50% nerf BIGGER than a 100% Buff?

ie Is 50% > 100%? NO!

Show some math that explains this or change the description.

More info if the above isn’t clear enough.

Here is the math: How to Calculate Percentage Increase or Decrease

Percent Increase or Decrease (% Increase or Decrease) = (Increase or Decrease in value / Original value) Ɨ 100

So a 100% Increase = (300 / 300) x 100

This is a 100% nerf to the charge time of 300, thus 300 + 300 = 600.

And a 50% Decrease = (150 / 300) x 100

This is a 50% buff to the charge time of 300, thus 300 - 150 = 150.

But the description has it backwards. A more reasonable and correct way to describe this is: First structure will charge 50% faster, the 2nd and 3rd will charge 100% slower.

Here’s my problem with the above reply from che: Saying the description isn’t clear and thus dismissing the problem isn’t a good solution. If the math is correct in game, then the bug is the description and it needs to be fixed. Making up your own formulas’ on how the math works to get incorrect results doesn’t fix the problem. ie you can’t say that 'sometimes the math is X * (1 + 0.5) and sometimes it’s X / (1 - 0.5)" that is ridiculous.

I think you’re not making thing any better. If you remove 100% of the speed, you’re left with 0. Wrong wording.
Maybe talk about the ā€œdelay before unit can be built againā€ or something like that, saying that that is ā€œhalved for 1st building, doubled for the othersā€.
That seems to fit the maths.

I’m really trying not to be sarcastic here or try to anger anyone, so I will be as clear as I can:

You are not removing 100% of anything. You are slowing the accrue speed by 100%. That’s the whole point. You are doubling the time it takes to charge.

Think about it this way: if I take 5 seconds to do something normally and I then i get tired and do it 100% slower does that equal 0? Did I do absolutely nothing because I did it slower? No. Even if I do it 1000% slower I am still doing it and it will get done. The work is not stopped or removed as you claim.

No, doing something that normally takes 5 seconds and I do it now 100% slower equals 10 seconds. Doing something slower increases the time it takes to accomplish something. Doing something 100% slower is the same thing as doubling the time it takes.

For simplicity sake I will refer to all times/charges in seconds. The game changes the speed based on your difficulty, but we are used to using seconds.

If I normally take 300 seconds to do something and do it 100% slower then is that 0 seconds? No, its 600 seconds. Why? because I am doing the same amount of work in 2 seconds that I normally do in 1 second.

And, if I normally take 300 seconds to do something and do it 50% faster, then it takes 150 seconds. Why? because I do in .5 seconds the same amount of work I normally do in 1 second.

This is exactly the behavior we see. We see the 2nd and 3rd structures charge at 600 seconds. And we see the 1st structure charging at 150 seconds.

The problem is that most people have a hard time wrapping their head around non-intuitive language. Think of the in game description: a ā€œchargeā€ is a cool down. Speeding up that cool down decreases the time needed. Slowing down a cool down increases the time needed.

So 100% of a ten second cooldown is what? 0? no, its 10! 100% of x is x.

Equations:

Add 100% of x to x …,… x + x = 2x
Add 100% of 300 to 300 …,… 300 + 300 = 600

Subtract 50% of x from x …,… x - .5x = .5x
Subtract 50% of 300 from 300 …,… 300 - 150 = 150

Again, the language is confusing and apparently not even the devs can wrap their head around it. Maybe they don’t speak english as a first language, but simply put the bug is the description itself and should read: ā€œUnit charges accrue 50% faster for the first production structure builtā€ and ā€œUnit charges accrue 100% slower for the second and third production structures builtā€

btw accrue means how fast something is increased or decreased.

So last point:

ā€œdelay before unit can be builtā€ = charge cool down. They are the same thing.
ā€œhalved for 1st buildingā€ = 50% faster speed. They are equivalent.
ā€œdoubled for othersā€ = 100% slower speed. They are equivalent.

The wording in game is correct except for where they put the 50 and 100, they reversed it.
