Nova P3 flavor/fantasy/etc. suggestion

I feel like Nova’s P3 disadvantage takes away part of her commander identity. I know that’s the whole point of the disadvantage, to take something away, but I think it would be used better if her Super Cloak wasn’t just removed when she attacks/snipes, but she transitions into her Assault Mode for a few seconds. This in itself would have advantages and disadvantages, so it wouldn’t just be a buff to the prestige.

Overall, just sniping things now and then doesn’t seem very fun and I always enjoy teleporting around and shot-gunning down smaller waves of enemies. With these changes, you still get to maintain the whole fantasy of defaulting to stealth mode as Nova without completely erasing any other part of her identity.

Another thought I had, since her level 15 bonus would become considerably better, would be to impose some sort of internal cooldown of switching to Assault Mode as opposed to just losing stealth. It could very easily just be a 45 second ICD just like the manual CD is (and lowered to 30 at level 15), and attacking or sniping while it is on cooldown would make it work exactly as it does now. I’m sure some other balance changes would need to be made alongside this, but I though the idea should be shared.

Nova’s P3 emphasizes her identity as an ultra-ghost IMO. She infiltrates into thick of enemy lines undetected and does all kinds of cool bombings. Assault mode doesn’t fit that.

I agree the part where the “sniping” decloaks Nova, is bit of a turn-off. While she is hellish useful in bombing, but sniping? not so much, and sniping is what Ghosts are all about.
I would rather have her sight (20 sight) and “snipe” range (15 (almost as long as Siege mode)) to increase by 50% but she decloaks when she does it (also include some handicap (I don’t know which)). That way her identity as Ultra-Ghost is maintained as well as maintaing the prestige disadvantage.

She is very good at sniping and even better with decloak, but increased sight range is truly welcome.

Yeah that makes sense. For sure it would make more sense to at least make her sniping more accessible with increased range and vision if we’re gonna go all hyper-infiltration specialist. A possible handicap for the sniping could be a longer self-root or something to play into the whole “she has to aim better across larger distances” or something, but in general, yeah I don’t really snipe much with her in P3 because she’s usually deep behind enemy lines where the rest of her package WANTS her to be.

I take this answer here because it is about Nova and not Artanis and this is something I’ve been meaning to ask for a while.

How do you defend waves with Nova P3? I’ve heard plenty of people praising her but my army keeps getting wiped without Nova tanking all the shots for the whole army until very late game. So much so that I finished leveling her up as P0 instead of P3.

Is P3 really that good for random missions or does she have trouble with defensive missions (OE, ME, MO, ToTP, VL)?

You need to use defensive drones whenever you engage enemies so your units don’t die easy or get wipe.

P3 army does fine on all maps and almost all comps because there are no changes to her army only Nova herself.

Defensive missions on DoN or ME you use tanks to defend.
VL: you make Marines, Goliaths or liberators to attack air. If it’s a ground comp you could use some tanks and their mines to camp them at their spawn.
TotP you make whatever units best for comp. if banelings / scourge make some turret around the temple to cut off those scourges.
OE: make libs and tanks to take down the trains fast.

Only downside is no assault mode. I usually use assault mode versus banelings. It’s the easiest way to deal with them. If no assault mode I use raven turrets.

Edit: Or you can nuke everything with Nova.

Defensive drones takes most of the guess work out of playing and defending with Nova.

You can’t be as greedy with P3 Nova in the early game as you can normally, since you need to have units and money for Defensive Drones in the early game instead of Battle Mode Nova just clearing the early waves on her own, but the advantage you get past the very early game more than makes up for that.

Maybe I rely a bit to much on Nova Battle mode but I feel much weaker without her in front to tank for most of the mission (not to mention take care of the masses of banelings by herself or bait the Viper’s shroud and the Raven’s SM and take care of the templar and …).

I do use Defensive drone at every engage but even then my army is much more vulnerable than with Nova ahead. Like P3 helps push into fortified position (SoA, VT, RtK) but feels weaker to defend waves like the maps I quoted. A good player will still make it work but it does require a lot more skill than with Tanky Nova teleporting in front of the wave a few times and resetting her shield while your whole army cowers behind her and kills from afar.

Like I would not mind the buffs mentioned in the thread specifically for P3 because to me the downside of no assault mode is really big so her remaining clocked while sniping or longer range or … would be perfectly fine.

EDIT: I’ve just read her CD on nuke is halved oO’? I did not know that, I’ve switched back leveling her up as P0 while she was lvl 7, before nuke or holo decoy. If that’s true then she is stronger than I thought she was.

I don’t have this issue. The priority casting on the matrix is decent. It puts defensive matrix on the unit that is being attacked or unit which has lowest hp. If the unit or units being attacked has the matrix it could tank a bit, allowing your other units to kill enemies.

If you have trouble killing, make some tanks and throw some mines in front of ground enemy waves. For air comps, Goliaths are very strong because of the stun.

Yeah I like this mode too. Her blink / decoy* are good tanking tool.

Edit: I see you were below lvl7, yeah maybe you might have some trouble, but defensive drones would still protect your army.

If you micro well enough you shouldn’t take great losses with Nova p3. If you don’t of course you need to rely on assault mode.

P3 is for players who can macro (albeit her macro is veeeeery simplified), manage her army abilities, and micro Nova elsewhere. Nova should almost never be with your main army.

While leveling up or at least for me this was quite big especially against heavy ground forces. I had plenty of kills since Nova pushed and all but if my ally was struggling and I used my call down to help him I’d start to loose troops and be overall a much weaker ally despite the score screen.

But again, I did switch back before she had her nuke and maybe this changes things.

Guys… its over. There are no changes and improvements coming to co-op. They dont care about it. The only thing we have left is beg for them to open co-op to community to add maps / changes to commanders. Literally the only thing we have left.Otherwise time to quit co-op. That is unless you dont care about any changes never being made or any content added to it… than by all means, play all you want.
