No SC3 so far? No future?

SC2 is quite outdated… It still not supports more than dual cores and the system itself is so old. Well, RTS games are quite rare these days anyway.

I know that Blizzard is having catastrophy for all of their games but at least they need to do something for their future. Not like Diablo: Immortal tho…

There are only less than 200 people playing in the East area of where I live (USA) Almost 10 years. Despite this fact, Blizzard didnt update quite often. When was the last time that they announced Coop commander? Coop map? Campaign? More? Gosh…

My Korean friends already ditched SC2 a long time ago.

Meh. Who cares? RTS games are mostly played for their multiplayer. Multiplayer is fine. Terran is a bit overpowered right now, but the game is still enjoyable because it’s well designed at its core. There’s no need for a third iteration.

The problem is that the TrIpLe AaAaAaY game industry is basically living on borrowed time and Blizzard, being the idiots they can sometimes be, sold to Activision.

And Activision doesn’t give two damns about games they can’t shove lootboxes into. Especially in a niche genre like RTS.

So the likelyhood of SC3 is really, really low. At least until government regulation kicks in regarding lootboxes, ending that unchecked parade. Once that happens gaming publishers will once again focus on games that make money through things like direct sales, robust DLC/expansions and fan favorites.

So give it another decade?

Blizzard was exploring a SC2 FPS but Activision probably cried “Muh Destiny 2” which is why it was cancelled.

God damnit…I’m turning into a Jim Sterling clone lol.

Only over 50% or the player base, not too important.

Well first of all any SC3 game that would be made would be “fan fare” of sorts considering that most of the original writers retired and left the company. And also consider that Blizzard is losing tons of money through this terrible Activision partnership they have going on right now.

A SC3 will definitely be made because we all know Blizzard is WAYYY too greedy to pass up on an opportunity like this to make more money. The first two were super successful. But we have to wait for the current fat cats and dungeon dwellers to step down first. The current Blizzard team is arrogant, lazy, selfish, ignorant, and biased for the most part. They want to end it all right here with war chests and skins and new commanders etc…making them all of the profit. They want to continue on the old engine until and squeeze every penny they can get out of it. We need to wait a few year for Blizzard to wise up, fire a bunch of these guys, split off from Activision and build a new team. And lastly, they have to release the game in a time when fans will enjoy a new RTS game. And with all of the popularity of fighting games, first person shooters, and MMORPGs its hard to say if now is the time to do that or not.

The problem with RTS games is that they are either to difficult to play or they are not responsive to control.

Look at all the promissing competition to SC. They all have lagging controls and not responsive when you play the game.

Then you have SC which is responsive but overly difficult.

They can solve this with a SC3. Making the game a lot easier to play and more strategic instead of just a click fest.

But for some reason I don’t think it is going to happen.

There was the matter of lootbox several times talked by governments all over the world but they didnt come to an agreement where microtransactions would be banned from games for good. I cant see SC 3 happen before all the money cash cow games like Overwatch and others stop pushing their stuff into the fanbase and real good games likes SC 2 will be given more attention but i have very little hopes for RTS games in the future anyways.
Enjoy SC 2 for as long as you can , i think they will stop supporting this game too in the near future and you either stick playing the mutliplayer with changes that which gold protoss players wish to have or leave and play something else?

Probably no StarCraft 3 for a while if at all. Would be nice for at least a new campaign but I’d doubt another game of StarCraft.

It’s also possible there’s a lack of marketing for StarCraft.

ActiBlizz can still milk millions of dollars from SC2 why do they need to make SC3? ActiBlizz is transferring to a new EA they don’t do thing that cost too much money.

Starcraft 3 would also be hard to justify story-wise. All of the main plot threads have been neatly tied up. The Xel’Naga are gone, Amon is gone, and all three races are at peace.

Given how there was Covert Ops and the reality that there’s always going to be new conflict, they can easily work something out with Alarak, Abathur and some Terran.

What would starcraft 3 do that sc2 wouldn’t? The graphics are still great and not outdated. The map editor is very powerful. There’s no reason to do an sc3 right now. It’s like asking when is Dota 3? well what would dota 3 do that dota 2 couldn’t just implement.

Better API and game engine that wasn’t built 10+ years ago is a start. Graphics may be good but I’m sure they can do plenty for increased performance.

It would still be nice to see another starcraft in production. Although if Blizzard does make another game I’m assuming they would have to add a new type of gamemode to compete with MOBAs.

Well, I think it would be really cool if instead of the 3 races only, if they had sub-groups to each race. For instance:

Zerg: broken down into Zagara’s Swarm, Dehaka’s Primals, and Niadra’s Brood.

Terran: The Dominion, the Umojans, the Kel-Morian Combine, and the UED. (because they are still a thing)

Protoss: The Daelam (either as one faction or split into Templar/Nerazim factions), the Tal-darim, and the Purifiers (they were quite adamant to be a separate group from the other protoss)

Each of these factions have had their own place in the story line of StarCraft, but the technology/mutations can be diversified into more unique playstyles and tech trees. Maybe the Kel-morians still use firebats or goliaths, maybe Niadra rediscovered hunter-killers or a lurker morph based on them, or the purifiers mounted colossi lasers on a mothership, or the Nerazim are now the new arbiter pilots. I mean, these guys imagined a massive brain with tentacles that houses it’s own cancer strain in order to produce an anti gravity field so it can fly while secreting an incredibly caustic acid in it’s bloodstream to prevent the cancer from overtaking it’s host (a.k.a., the corruptor. You’re welcome ). If they can think of that, making a fresher version of StarCraft shouldn’t be too difficult. Maybe we would even see a battalion style army with the same or similar micro? That would be epic.

They already have a game supposed to do that: heroes of the storm. It just so happens to be failing miserably.

Would you guys like a SC3 but with only multiplayer (no campaign)?

It would be similar to the Overwatch series. Overwatch released in 2016 but is (mostly) only PvP, and there is rumor of an unannounced Overwatch 2 that will be PvE only.

How long would it take to develop a new StarCraft multiplayer-only? SC2 WoL supposedly took 7 years (2003-2010) - how much time would have been saved if they never worked on campaign?

I still think there’s a lot of potential for starcraft to have a more mainstream mode that isn’t like a MOBA. Just something casual to compete with them.
