No mouse scrolling (panning)

I play SC2 on my MacBook. Since today my mouse does not move the section of the screen in the game anymore. I can click on objects and the cursor is moving, but when I go to the border of the screen the section won’t move at all. Any idea how to fix that issue? I am using a bluetooth mouse, but the Mac’s trackpad does not work either.

I have the same issue. In addition, it took really long to start SC. Something like 5 minutes. At first I thought it would not start at all. My macbook is on Mac OS Catalina version 10.15.5 (19F101)

I have the same problem with my iMac still using Mojave without upgrade to Catalina. Mouse cannot scroll in any direction

I specifically posted this here because usually most of my problems with SCII are Mac related. My post earlier today here was taken down. All I’m asking is why camera panning is so unresponsive in windowed mode.

I have the same issue. No panning at all. Also can’t move the cursor when building

It’s happened to me once. I got out of it by pressing Command-M to put it in windowed mode and then back again. I have bigger crashing issues (replied to in another thread) with the latest update too. Fun…

Thank you for your reports! There have been some known issues with MacOS and StarCraft II in particular. The mouse scrolling issues can usually be fixed by CMD + TAB out then back in or by forcing windowed mode CMD + M.

Could you provide us with the system information? Click on the Apple Menu and then “About this mac.” Please include the mac model, processor, memory, and graphics.

MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

I previously had this issue a few weeks ago, combined with building placement not displaying, so had to guess on building placement (the building ghost would appear fixed and not move with my cursor, but I could place the building by clicking in the usual way). These issues did however go away after a day or two.

As of today the issue is back, and I have also noticed that when I drag select a group of units I do not see a box.

These limitations make playing the game competitively on the ladder very difficult.

Just updated to patch v 5.0.0.80949 and it killed mouse panning and basic operations like placing buildings. Will try to force the window focus.

Did it happen to you after an OS update? Heres an easy fix for this issue :

Go to system preferences
Security and privacy

check accessibility SC2 will have it disabled after the OS X update. Allow it and everything will work just fine

I have this issue, checking accessibility like what @sHADow does not work. CMD+M and CMD+TAB works occasionally, system restarts sometimes fixes this.

SC2 - 5.0.3.81433
Mac - macOS Catalina 10.15.7 (19H2), Darwin 19.6.0

I can confirm this bug on two out of two tested machines, one literally fresh out of the box. It appeared after the 5.0.x patch.

The chance of this happening is somewhere on the order of 10%. The only remedy I know of is restarting the game until symptoms are no longer present (sometimes it happens several times in a row, sometimes it won’t trigger for days).

The game occasionally takes a much longer time to load, but this doesn’t seem strictly correlated with this issue.

All of the following symptoms can be observed simultaneously, for as long as the game client isn’t restarted:

  • Most elements in the menu will fail to highlight properly on mouse hover (good to check for this before queuing up… almost like scouting for cheese)
  • In game, greenbox (mouse drag selection effect) is visually absent, making it difficult to visually tell which units are subject to selection. The selection works however.
  • Panning the camera by pushing the cursor against the screen edge does not work.
  • Panning the camera by holding the middle mouse button does not work.
  • Jumping the camera to a target location by hitting a control group hotkey twice, or by clicking the minimap works, but it’s not possible to continuously pan the camera by dragging the cursor over the minimap.

All these combined make the game completely unplayable at any competitive level. On a test run to see how badly this actually impacts gameplay, I lost against a medium AI (I normally have no trouble against elite).

Tested configurations:

  • macOS Catalina 10.15.7
  • SC2 5.0.3, 5.0.4
  • Accessibility permissions enabled
  • MacBookPro14,3 (15-inch, 2017), i7, Radeon Pro 560
  • MacBookAir9,1 (2020), i5, Iris Plus

I can provide a full system report upon request, I’d also be happy to test a possible patch in PTR.

It does n ot work. Not cmd + M , not CMD tab.

It is a game we paid for , znd you cann’ot provide solution. This is NOT PLAYABLE THIS WAY . fix or repay. thx

Same issue and neither commands work. CMD+TAB used to work but since BigSur even that gets stuck on a black screen.

Update: I have found a simple workaround that does not require restarting the game client, or even exiting the current match (although you may still want to pause).

Simply go to the graphics options, and switch between “Fullscreen” and “Windowed (Fullscreen)” (whichever you’re on), then if you wish so, you can switch back. Simply switching the mode fixes it.

I’m not sure if it’s a 100% reliable fix, it worked maybe 2/2 or 3/3 times, so maybe after 10th time it won’t work, but that’s a simple thing to try, before resorting to a restart.

If anyone has any success with this workaround, please let me know!

Tested on:

  • macOS Big Sur 11.2.3
  • SC2 5.0.7

I’m having the same issue 2.3 GHz 8-Core Intel Core i9
MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019

no solution works anymore for macos. The game can be deleted. As well as the reputation of the developer company. That’s shameful

Any news on this bug?
