New maps please!

I just noticed today on Sc2’s reddit that there was link for a map contest on Team Liquid’s site…

WardiTV Team Liquid Map Contest Tournament Group C

(Would add link but it wont let me you can see the full post on Sc2 reddit)

What a great idea!!! So it got me thinking why in the world doesn’t Blizz open the map pool of Co-op to map makers too? There really is waaay less need of balance issue’s with Co-op. I have had other people say you can find other maps in the custom area if u search hard. The issue I have with these maps (even if you find one no one ever plays them, so good luck getting a game going & you get no exp either)

I really enjoy Co-op & wanna hit the 1000 level mark but this rotation of 8-12 (dont know the exact # atm) maps, was ok the 1st 500 times lol, but to hit the 1000 level mark that means I have to play over 4000 wins to hit the 1000 mark. NO way I will be able to keep going at this rate of boredom, i’m only level 150. That means i’ll need at least 3400 more games to hit 1000. I see guys at maxed (1000 all the time) what is your secret?? how in the world to you keep going?? Are you not bored to death yet? Maybe it’s just me, as i can’t do factory jobs or anything super repetitive, but please open up the map pool to makers or add something just to please keep Co-op fresh.

They did in the past, but at least for Part&Parcel, they felt obligated to modify the map before adding to official coop pool AND there were (and still are?) issues for some time with many maps (regardless of them coming from Blizzard from the start or no) like timing AND must take in account mutations, and nowadays even prestiges.

So unless when Microsoft take control, they give hints to be ready to invest significant time and effort in SC2 and/or co-op, it will probably be unrealistic to count on it.
Sad but true.

Making missions in coop isn’t trivial. They need to ensure the building area has enough space for 2 players, ditto for the expansions, that the expansions/objectives/spawn points are all of good distance. They didn’t want to do this in the past, even 1.5 to 2 years prior to the Oct. 2020 announcement. I dunno if we have enough people around who can make new missions, but also willing to do so. That, and the missions required voice acting for the NPC lines.

Before, Blizzard was not one to cede control of their stuff to the community (even if you make stuff in the editor, they still owned it). No telling how Microsoft will go about this.

As for leveling up, people treat it as a marathon, not a sprint. “It’s about the journey, not the destination”. I’m sure there are some who’ll grind, but I reckon that’s only the minority. Note that those who have gotten to lv1K have probably been playing the game for up to many, many years (first came out late 2015, but Ascension got added some time after that). You play a little bit each day, week, or whatever, it adds up. Especially with the 10K XP bonus from First Win of the Day. Also note that there were XP boosts back then. Warchest gave you +50%, while CO Bundle gave you another +50% (they stacked for +100%). Put in long hours even for a weekend, a few of them, or over the course of a month or 3, THAT also adds up.

Me, lv1000 is just a number. I’ll try to get it, but I won’t care if I don’t (nor put a huge priority on that). I’ve been doing that with other video games as well… not going crazy if I don’t 100% the game, the explored areas, or finding all secrets. For example, for Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, no freaking way I’m getting all of the Korok Seeds. My goal for now is to to get just enough to max out all of my equipment slots. If not, then I’ll get as far as I can. Game play wise, there’s no hard benefit for me. I’ll get to a point I’ll want to move on.

For Coop, I don’t mind jumping into a game or 3 per day, although if I’m tired or just “meh”, I’ll skip a day or 3 as well (and you can tell since sometimes I pull ahead, but otherwise, I get whopped)
