Make snipe deal 50% less damage to ultras if they have c.plating upgrade but include snipe in auto tracking upgrade in ebay for the lurkers?
Not gonna lie, but at first the “ebay for the lurkers” made me wonder what you were smoking. And then I understood it was just the grammar which was off.
So, put in english you want :
— to nerf by 50% the damage of snipe towards chitinous armor ultralisks
— But to include some kind of buff (range ?) of that same snipe ability to go along the Hi-sec autotracking upgrade, to help against lurkers.
It currently takes 3 steady snipes to take down an ultralisk, in realistic terms 3 ghosts (though if the ghosts do survive if they were more than 125 energy they could be able to snipe another ultralisk. An ultralisk is 300/200/6 supplies, vs 3 ghosts 450/375/6 supplies. Ghosts were designed to counter ultralisks after the armor buffs made MMM insufficient against those. Thus having ghosts able to tri-shot an ultralisk, while banes can cancel said ability, does not seems imbalanced. And it’s not logical to make them inefficient against ultralisks with an armor upgrade, since the steady shot was precisely designed to bypass its armor.
Ultralisks aren’t underpowered, they were deemed the contrary during the 6->8 armor buff, and since they went back to 7 points received a base armor buff, and a minute speed buff. If you buff them only slightly they could very well become imbalanced again in ZvT.
Nor are ghosts underpowered vs lurkers either, considering detection is required and could also be targeted by the very same ability.
So the rule of the thumb would be : if it’s not broken, don’t fix it.

about the only time you’ll see this unit made is if you have some sort of a comical lead as per how the game evolved.
you’re not going to see an ultra being used 90% of the time, and we don’t see it in pro play unless it’s to tank widow mine shots.

Immortals are anti-armored big guns. If big guns couldn’t take Ultralisks down, the unit would be near invincible. Of course immortals are good against ultralisks, they’re meant to, and it’s not a match-up where Ultralisks are supposed to be interesting in the first place.
If people gave me a dollar each time a player said X unit was worthless/useless and X match-up unplayable, I’d be rich by now. Problem being that those people tend to consider “good” units that were in fact too good, to the point they had to be nerfed. And so now that they’re balanced, and not game ending anymore, they straight claim they are “worthless”. There is no middle grounds for those users.
And so they don’t see the qualities for their units. Ultralisks may not be the game ending they singlehandedly were when they had 8 armor, but they can still enforce the strength of a varied lategame composition. Just as you said, they can tank mines and tanks just right, and that means +12 banes for you for each mine detonated. Which is great since ghosts, libs and bio will then have a tough time handling the banes. So things do globally balance themselves out.
If you prefer to tank mines shots with your banes instead, you’re free to do so, but don’t complain if you get steamrolled by the surviving bio afterwards.
