But to answer the question, most people have been calling them trash lately, but I’ve always felt they can be really good as long as they don’t get caught. They make for excellent skirmishers and snipers, but rely heavily on being overwhelming in a head on engagement

They’re not bad units at all, they’re just not good for direct combat and that can make them a liability, depending on the game state and the MU.
Mutalisks are perfectly fine. Not broken and not weak. Those who ask for Mutalisks buffs are the same that ask for Void Ray buffs, they are silver leaguers who have no idea of how the game works.
Mutalisks had a 36% win-rate in WCS Fall. It is factually incorrect to say they are not weak.
Professional players factually had a 36% win-rate with mutalisks.

Mutas are trash! For harrasing? You need at least 6-8 of them to do some damage, but 1 defence structure and you loose almost always one (if you dont pull away after first shot) So lets do math… Zerg invest 800/800+ into a unit, which do NOTHING! And also Spire tech is dead, because you must defend yourself until superlate BL with Roach/Rava/BLing! Nope sorry dude, if you loose to Mutas, you are much lower rank as Zerg player
If Mutas had some atack vs Structure, or Bouncing atack do not 9/3/1 dmg but 9/6/3, or just introduce new unit morphed from Mutalisk, without Light tag, maybe remowe bounce atack and add some HP to be fighter. To help fight Mech and protoss ground… but Noooooo. Every single game same sht. Bored allready.
Voids are trash, and won’t be a serious part of the game without buffs.
Mutas are hit and miss, but there are game scenarios where they are very good.
These two units are not comparable.
You cannot have a fast flying unit that self regens hp be a fighter, they would be unstoppable. Secondly imagine if they did structure damage. You would never, ever leave your base again as T/P.
I mean Muta is100/100. Bring new unit something like ,Greater Muta, cut regeneration rate to 1/2 (so 2HP/sec I think) give them +30 to +40 HP, reduce bouncing from attack, remove Light tag, but morphing cost is extra +50/50 or more, so not quick massable… something like Ravager. Quite good for early Ravager pressure, pretty good at mid game, but due low dps losing value as game goes to the later stages
The thing I find annoying is that Spire takes ages to build and is also expensive

Mutalisks, like Banshees, were never bad, and are not broken.
Players just do not know how to play with them, because they have almost never tried them out for any amount of time.
These units have incredible abuse potential.
there should be a list of not_broken stuff, from which you can try to make ‘balance’.
Only thing Imba about Mutas is how unexpected they are.
Please do not try and nerf one of the few playstyles that requite Zerg to even remotely micro.
Mutalisks are pests that need immediate extermination,if you don’t have pest control that is a player problem
