What is a good mech opening in TvT?
I take the lack of answers as a statement of mech being dead. Something for Blizzard to look into I guess while the nerf Zerg and Protoss.
Mech in TvT isn’t a thing due to the Raven’s IM as well as the fact that Bio tends to be much more aggressive than traditional mech meaning it’s hard to turtle and get the mech army you need to trounce Bio.
Mech was viable before the patch. The IM nerf should help mech since Ravens now only can cast 2 IM instead of 4 at full energy.
I am starting to think 1-1-1 with tanks, vikings and reactored marines is the safest opening against bio. You do not really need Ravens anymore after the IM nerf.
Against proxy 2 or 3 rax you can either go 1-1-1 with perfect micro or 2-1-1 if want to play it safe.

Mech is more than viable, even at 6k,so how would mech not be viable at regular masters level and below
People go 2-3 cyclone for map control, or you can just go straight to tanks whatever you like
You can do 2 base tank viking all in(and call it mech) or take a fast 3rd with map control and good defense(you will lose map control as stim is finished, but at that point that shouldnt be an issue, turrets in bases with tanks defend everything
Basically 1/1/1, with fast third, 1-3cyclone,1raven,then non stop tank viking hellion
Thor in late midgame as the bio player will try to assert air dominance
If not then get libs and ez win
I mean I’m literally quoting GM Terrans on why they don’t go traditional mech in TvT but okay.

I mean beasty just beat special with mech, not a 100%serious game from special for sure but he lost with bio
The tricky part is knowing if you should get cyclones or tanks early. Cyclones are good vs banshee and liberators but do almost nothing against an early tank/viking/marine push. Tanks are good but it is almost impossible to know where you should place your first two tanks, the bio Terran can attack from so many angles.
If you go mech in TvT. OR at least pure mech, you better be turtling HAAAAAARD. That means Vikings, Tanks and Liberators, oh my!
And don’t forget to turret the map+place aggressive sensor towers+transition into an end game unit comp like BC Thor Liberator.
You’re also probably not going to get any further than low GM doing it consistently.
Also, always open with a 2 Medivac drop with 2 tanks and 8 marines. It might seem allin but as long as you hit your production cycles and don’t sacrifice the tanks, you can either outright win with it or deal some severe damage and end up massively ahead. Plus by time you get to the opponent’s base you should have 1-3 additional tanks back at home in case of a counter piush, depending on your cyclone count.
Get both. Safety tank then 1 Cyclone. 2 if you scout a tech lab port and a fusion core with no research on the tech lab (it’s a BC opener or a really crappy delayed Banshee push?)
