Mass widow mines is unstoppable and it requires no skill to push across the map with them. I’m experienced starcraft player, i play 2v2 mostly. Even if you detect them they will still kill your units. Even if you are careful a few will squeak by and kill massivie clusters of either zerg units or protoss voids. The amount of micro it takes to clear them is the most in the game. I’m talking clusters of 30 or more widow mines bunched in groups. If terran keeps moving them it is impossible. You can’t even stop them they can literally send in a mass of 50 to 100 widow mines into your base they just walk right in and bury, while you have to spend considerable time detecting and trying to clear. Drones cant mine, etc.
They require no skill yet they are still very prevalent in the game. Why does this unit even exist? Bring back swarm hosts that don’t fly again if Terran is going to have this type of AFK fighting ability.

Non-issue that doesn’t work above Plat 3 league. I’ve also worker rushed into Plat before but that doesn’t mean worker rushes are good. Learn to play.
Widow mines are imba, but if you are ONLY facing widow mines, you ought to figure out how to counter it. Simple as that.

Every race has solutions to this. Mass mines is actually laughable when you know how to deal with it.
Zerg: 1.Hydralisks with overseers and upgraded hydralisk range. Need to be careful to macro the overseers if hey move though and not get into cornered areas if possible.
2. Ravagers if you have a bunch of them can also target clusters of them.
3. If you are trying to do a late game push, broodlords can outrange them.
4. If you are dealing with an opponent using thors or battlecruisers with mines, you can get some infestors to neural their units when standing over the mines and it will waste their mines on their own units.
Terran
- Siege tanks+Ravens+scanners any unit with more then 6 range. Thors are also a great option vs mines.
- Planetary fortress with missle turrets can help for preventing them at mineral lines.
- Battlecruisers can soak widow mine blasts and then warp away to get repaired.
Protoss
- High templar with storms.
- Disruptor/Colossi. Both can outrange mines and have good aoe.
- Tempests with observers.
Mines can be scary as a newb yes, but they are okay as they are now.

Um, if his supply is in 50 or 100 widow mines out in the map, then your army should already have leveled his main because he has nothing else to defend with.
Mass widow mines doesn’t work. The utility of widow mines is deploying 1 or 2 of them in an annoying location.

Mines punish a-moving and people with bad micro, but I don’t think they are op. Even though though. if you are a moving units that outrange mines with detection at a safe distance, its like hitting an army that can’t attack.
Your position about mines totally ignores juggling them between bases with a medivac.
Dude. All you have to do to deal with that is get some static defenses up. Mines can’t even attack static defenses.
-
Protoss its easy. Have some cannons at each of the mineral lines. They have detection and can hit ground and air.
-
Zerg. Have some spores/spine crawlers and overseer with an army. Split if needed. use corruptors or mutas to target medivacs. You can also use 1 or 2 zerglings to start off the mines then gett the other zerglings in there with overseers.
-
Terran. Planetary fortress with missle turrets and if someone is using an orbital. Siege tanks or hellions/cyclones can also work since they can outrange them.
Another thing to keep in mind also is to use scouting techniques to help know if it will happen or not and how bad it may be.
Single photon canon cant kill mine for the first
Against a unit that cannot even attack it back? Course it can.
Maybe, but thats were micro comes in and army assistance. Static defenses are not supposed to be relied on to win the game on their own. Even cannon rushes have plenty of weaknesses.
At 4-6 min of the game Protoss has no budget for cannons in 3 Bases. They usually come latter. That early a single cannon (when they can afford it) is more for detection than firepower. Clearing WM from mineral lines is done with Stalkers or better Phoenixes.
100% agree with that. I am maybe the strongest proponent of a solid static-defense, but one has to know the inherent limitations of that.
SD with no support from the army is just resources donated to the opponent.
Idk, in pro games I rarely ever see widow mines get a good connection. More often than not they kill only one probe/zergling/whatever or get sniped w/ detection before they can fire.
They seem like a unit that’s only good if you’re not paying attention, or as annoying harass in the early game

Static defenses cost minerals and don’t move. This takes away from frontal defenses, which you need.
I’m not some noob, I know how to counter them but counters=/=not broken. Problem with widow mines is they’re cheap, early tech that has massive AoE damage which is almost exclusively used to kill workers with very little skill, meanwhile the defense takes a significant amount of skill, assuming you know how to shift click.

What kind of balance do you think they need?
Can you please give me a replay so I can include my list of abusives. Thanks
Nah, Mines as fine, they dont need to be changed at all. If you pay attention to your units, you dont have to lose a single one!
You know what I think is abusive though at least in ZvP matchups. Mass Voids. The problem with voids is that they can quickly move around corners and snipe bases that ground units can’t quitely get to. They are strong vs armored and corruptors are armored. A player can have them out way before one gets their first viper and their viper needs energy to be of any use. Spore crawlers are also armored so those barely do anything to voids. Infestors and queens are supposed to be apart of the thing that counters them but they cost energy and they have to actually land a hit on the voids and most of the time it won’t stop them from actually getting to the base. Plus voids have shields. Queens simply aren’t strong enough to keep voids at bay long enough and they take time to make.
If you think mines are OP, you’re just mechanically stunted. It’s like a Terran complaining about banelings or disruptors.
