Maps are too big

I was wrong about this. The maps are still extremely terran favored. Source: homestory cup.

medi are relatively free and safe. Consequently also annoying.
long way to third base.

Curling of the ground walk paths between bases is probably the biggest predictor. Medivac can threaten 2 locations in a couple seconds but the ground units have to walk a long ways around terrain. Then the squatedness of the maps is a big one too. Squated maps force you to expand towards your opponent and allow the terran to defend and attack with the same unit rally.

I’ve been saying it for years. Marines need to cost 5 gas when made off a reactor. The marine medivac combo is simply too strong and that’s why it’s spammed every single game in every single matchup for decades. There are no downsides to it. Add a gas cost and suddenly marines have an opportunity cost. If you spam too many, you lose out on higher tech units. That’s how the baneling works for zerg.

It’s a lot like divergence and curl in vector calculus: https://i.imgur.com/49wDtmB.png

Walk paths that are divergent for air but curled for ground strongly favor air units like medivacs, liberators, and mutalisks.

Main reason I hate maps where the only viable third is a triangle one.
