balance issues aside…wtf are these map makers doing? not only balance in favor of zerg(debetable how much) but 90% of the maps are literal zerg heavens
only map i can think of being unfavorable for zerg is ephemeron,as terran 2/2 timings easily punish their 4ths,but otherwise just wtf?
Agreed. You can’t let people vote for maps when balance literally rides on these maps. You need a professional to decide.
This was an unusually bad map pool.
A big part of it was glitches. We had Winter’s gate reapers ignore pathing blocks and jump into bases through impassable terrain. We had a map (forgot which one, but it was fixed) where small units could squeeze through a full natural ramp wall off. Destructible terrain not completely sealing off areas they were designed to (also fixed).
Not to mention, just heavy Zerg favored terrain. Will the next map pool also be unbalanced and break Zerg and make Terran/Protoss win every tournament?
I don’t want to give up my right to vote for maps, but if they are gonna end up being like this from now on, I would be okay with DankTemplar’s suggestion.
ladder maps come from tl map contest. in judges only 2 ex-pro players, and both of them zergs.
Maps indeed play a very important role in balance. SC1 had no balance update for more than 10 years, but people use maps with extra features to balance it.
For SC2, usually larger maps favor Zerg because the other races require longer time to attack, and Zerg always has mobility, vision and map control advantage. Zerg also likes wide open map so their zerglings and banelings can surround enemy more easily, and Protoss would like more choke point in order to cast force field.
Another example is that Terran and Protoss both like maps with dead space behind base out of queen’s range in order to hide medivac, liberator, damaged BC, warp prism and oracle, and use them when there is a chance and the Zerg player is focus at somewhere else. They cannot do so anymore at newer maps.
